    16th street

16th street is probably the most well-known tourist attraction in Denver besides Red Rocks, Rocky Mountain National Park and places like that. It's located in the heart of lower downtown (AKA LoDo) and has a lot of bars, restaurants, and shopping along the street as well as a free mall ride that stops at each intersection. Although 16th street has made a good amount of improvements, I still would not recommend it as one of the places you should go whether you live here or are a tourist. The bars and restaurants aren't anything to write home about and it can be a bit sketchy even during the day but definitely at night. Any area surrounding it would work better for whatever you may be looking for (RiNo, LoHi, Uptown, Cherry Creek, etc).

We didn't know what we got ourselves into when we read mall! Welp, we walked the 16th street and realized it was a street/outdoor thing. We had a long day and walked from the Union Station. Lots of places, stores to go into. Pretty concept especially with the perfect weather!

The 16th Ave pedestrian mall is a happening. The free shuttle bus passes by every 10 minutes and stops on every corner going from the Capital to the convention center. It makes everything in downtown easy to reach. Renowned architect I.M. Pei designed the gray and pink granite pathway to resemble the pattern of a diamondback rattlesnake. This area is home to some of the most popular places to visit in Denver, like Denver Union Station and the LoDo Historic District. We could easily spend a full day sightseeing at these downtown Denver attractions. After dark, pedicycles and horse-drawn carriages clatter up and down. The summer kick off is happening this weekend with all kinds of events on 16th mall from scaling buildings to music ...

Finally the new Denver Way aka 16th Street is back in business. The three year long reconstruction has been brutal but produced an amazing addition to downtown. Wider pedestrian walks. Space for outdoors eating and activities. Seating. Art. Engaging spaces and a clean drag feel make this the place to be. All new infrastructure, with bus lanes compacted and lots of space for a nice stroll. New lights. Safer space and dedicated police and security presence. Although many shops have closed there is an energy building with new businesses coming and closed businesses reopening. Lots of patios and seating make this much more inviting. Welcome back 16th street, Denver's #1 tourist attractions for decades is back in the spotlight.

We went to the 16th Street opening day and I was very impressed with the remodel. They did a great job cleaning it up and modernizing the area. It is definitely different from the Mall I remember, but it in a good way.

Not sure about coming down here again but we did for a show at the Paramount Theatre. It's much nicer with the construction fencing down. And there's a nice facelift on the streets. Games to play, seating and rickshaws. How fun! I think it's a nice way to spend time with family and friends - exploring the stores and restaurants. Just be aware of your surroundings and don't get caught unawares.

What a unique outdoor mall :) something I hadn't seen before but it makes sense because of the hot weather. They had everything from restaurants, souvenir shops, ice cream shops, clothing, you name it. The parking lots that were close by were easily accessible and affordable for the rate provided. Metered parking on the street was even cheaper. The shopkeepers were polite and courteous, and not at all aloof. They always greeted me while I looked around.

This strip mall is a mile long. Unfortunately it is under reconstruction therefore I couldn't see it in its true glory.

I was looking for some Public Art in an alley which I never found, but I'm glad it led me here! This mall is basically an outdoor walking only mall. Metered Parking can be found on the outskirts. The road between the shops have been closed off to traffic. The mall runs from Wewatta Street (Union Station) to Broadway (Civic Center Station). There is a free MallRide Bus that goes up and down this split set of one-way streets. I never boarded the bus although I should have! TIP: Be attentive to the bus!!! I almost got the horn! :P The center divider is tree-lined and gives a tad bit of shade. Not that I could notice, but the pedestrian promenade's red, white and gray granite in a repeating pattern (that seen from above) resembles the skin of a diamondback rattlesnake was designed by I.M Pei! I walked up and back a few blocks. This mall is over one mile long! There are so many shops and restaurants to keep you busy exploring! If shopping is your bag, there are over 300 shops! I was surprised to see a Hard Rock Cafe here! If you want food, this mall has 42 places for you to choose from! I was happy to find Kilwins and got a scoop of ice cream to eat outside and a chocolate to eat later. There are a few areas to sit out in the mall. I chose a table in a small picnic area. There was no shade, so it was hot. I ate as quickly as I could and started heading back to my car. I found some other Public Art! I saw the "Welcome to The Mile High City" Mural and a blue painted Cow statue, so it was a successful outing!

My biggest gripe with 16th St Ave Mall is the type of material it is paved with! It is seriously super dangerous whenever there's any kind of precipitation. In warmer weather if it did happen to rain, you'll slip and slide all over. In winter, like New Year's 2021 going into 2022 we had a major snow storm. They decided to have this machine brush the snow off and it was better when the snow was there to have some traction! Once a big amount of snow was removed, leaving only the little layer that the machine doesn't get to, it was SLIP CITY! I don't understand how people are hurting themselves and suing them constantly, to be honest! They really need to treat the walkways with some sort of non-slip. The next worst thing is just probably the sketchy people that hang out around the mall. It's not a good look for Denver tourists. Usually, they are harmless so there's that. I am not sure what's all being done about it, I bet something is, I just don't know what. The upper levels of the mall, the escalator has been broken for the longest time. I don't mind taking the stairs, so doesn't really bother me regarding that particular, but it is yet another eye sore to look at which isn't putting the mall in the best light. There really aren't that many stores, I rarely ever shop at any of them. But tons of decent bars & restaurants on or near 16th. It's more of a city center than a mall, really. The mall ride is a nice to have, I just wish they'd hustle more. I don't know what happened after Covid, but now they often just sit at the stoplight at Civic Station, cyle after cyle -- it's just silly. They never used to do that. A lot of times if it's not right at rush hour, I don't even get the chance to take the mall ride because there isn't one to be found. We are stuck with the construction for the foreseeable future, I was told. One day I asked one of the construction workers what was going on, and he told me the entire strip needs to be redone underneath, the piping and all that is old. And they have to carefully review stuff that might be deemed "historic" which adds more time. So, they're doing sections (aka blocks) at a time. Ugh... get used to it all. Then you have to hop on 15th or 17th to catch the mall ride (both one-way streets, so it depends on which direction you're going to know which street to take). Confusing-sounding, I know. First-world problems.

I'm not a big shopper so this was my kind of mall-souvenir shops, target, cvs, specialty stores and lots of bars and restaurants. If you are looking for high end department stores this won't fit the bill. It is pedestrian only with a free bus on both sides of traffic. I felt pretty safe, the homeless presence was not bad to me, I've seen much worse in other big city tourist areas. The tourist in me loved strolling along on a pretty day, it was just enough city exploring just around the corner from my hotel.

This neighborhood felt clean and upscale with plenty of great shopping and restaurants. When I asked ChatGPT to compare it to a San Diego neighborhood, it said Encinitas or La Jolla (if that reference point means anything to you). The area itself encompasses around 16 blocks filled with lots to do. We stayed at the Jacquard Hotel, which is part of the Marriott family. It was a lovely stay with a great lobby restaurant, Narrative and rooftop pool and bar. We enjoyed shopping at the mall as well as at the shops that line the streets. In terms of food, Quality Italian was our favorite for dinner and we enjoyed Little Man Ice Cream!

The premier living and shopping area of Denver is absolutely going through gentrification. Very nice single-story and two-story retail buildings are being torn down in order to provide more office buildings, apartment buildings and condominiums as well as lots more retail shops, spas , beauty salons and pricey restaurants and bars. Of course, it adds and brings thousands of people to the area, but with little hope of avoiding congestion. The city continues to express its desire that people visit using public transportation, but, of course, there are no trains, subways, or, rapid transit of any make, style or kind. For those who dare to bicycle into Cherry Creek North, be sure that your health insurance is paid up. So what's Cherry Creek North starting to look like, you guessed it, a mini Metropolitan downtown. Yet, it remains the place to shop and eat and walk among lots and lots of beautiful people who seem to own lots of dogs. Once the next door Cherry Creek West Neighborhood becomes developed it will add several thousand more people into the area. It remains Beverly Hills without the large green frontages, mostly big homes and beautiful landscaping, but, instead, a visitors' delight with high end homes and pricey apartments and high end retail shopping.
