The rim was lined with some red salt that was not tasty and our drinks were different shades of yellow (should be the same drink). It was not a good margarita by any means. I don't taste any passion fruit and it was one of the worst cocktails I've had here. The servers were smoking around us and it seemed like they gave the wrong bill to one of the other customers next to us. We quickly got our bill and left after the one drink I couldn't even finish. Not sure if it was an off night, but we won't be back. FYI the bathrooms here are nasty. Door won't close and no lids on the toilets. Save your pesos and go else where.

The highlight of the entire night was the baked fig appetizer! It was gooey and delicious! We also ordered the whole fish baked in the wood fire oven. The fish of the night was yellowtail. First time to ever eat a whole fish and wow was it good! For cocktails we got the Pilar, which had the lightest hint of hazelnut, and the Emerald whiskey cocktail. It was unique, but the Pilar was better. Service was very attentive and made great recommendations. Go check this place out and try and make a reservation for the weekends.

They have so many options from juices, smoothies, regular food, breakfast, to even a deep freezer at the front of the store with homemade Paletas (popsicles) and frozen chocolate covered bananas with sprinkles. Like you could stay here all day and eat like 5 or 6 items for a total of $10 usd and enjoy it all in the back in their lovely courtyard, vintage style patio. So on our last night we stayed in town and decided to eat somewhere local. La Malquerida beats all of the restaurants we went to on the hotel zone strip (in food quality, price, and service)! We thought it was the most authentic food we had the whole trip, and the ambience was great - outdoor seating is available, and there are a ton of other restaurants/bars in the area if you're in the mood for a nightcap after a delicious deal (you'll hardly need one - everything was very filling at La Malquerida). The crust was fresh and light. The cheese was good quality and very tasty. Really good pizza and especially so in an area not known for Italian food. Service was good, bathrooms were clean, and I have no complaints at all. I would go here again if I ever visit Tulum another time.
