Came around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and the place wasn't too busy. We were able to find a seat easily. I opted for the seafood noodle soup with knife cut noodles. All the noodles are made fresh and you have the choice of thin, regular, hand pulled and knife cut. It's so satisfying to watch them make the noodles in front of you. The broth was light and savory, and the seafood was well cooked to match. Each bowl will run you about $12+ with tax. I give the noodle soup a solid 4 stars. The reason for 1 star deducted is due to service. My mom kindly asked a staff member to wipe off the table for us as it was quite dirty. The staff member said under his breath (and thought I didn't hear.. my mom didn't hear it), but he said " .. *SIGH* you guys couldn't pick another table?" It's a solid addition to the area and I'm glad to see it pop up. However, the staff really put a sour taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll be returning. I've been here multiple times and am unimpressed with the food. Specifically, the Beef Combo Hand Pull Noodle Soup (R4) is way overpriced (almost $14) for a small portion with little taste. The knife-cut noodles itself were thick and fresh, but the broth is not rich in flavor and very bland. Their fried scallion pancakes were also bland and the pan fried pork buns were pretty average. Additionally, the menu is listed above the cashier, but there is no price next to the dishes. Came here with my mom to celebrate her birthday, but I've been eying this place for a while. It's located across the street from Kung Fu Tea in Rio, next to Barnes and Noble. We ordered hand pulled noodles and didn't specify thickness. We watched the guy pull the noodles and cook the right in front of us (I counted 32 strands each time, but I'm guessing if you opted for thinner noodles you'd get more strands). The size was about the thickness of instant ramen. I got a dry beef tendon, and I loved it. Since we ordered it to go I did make the mistake of dumping the entire cup of sauce directly into my dish- I warn you not to do so because the sauce is pretty salty! Overall loved the food! Friend and I stopped by to check this place out. We arrived at dinner time and it was pretty busy. Was hoping that meant good things! When you walk in, you can watch the chef making the noodles. Always good to know the noodles are fresh! The staff at the counter were friendly. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, scallion pancake and beef noodle stir fry and roast pork noodle stir fry. The scallion pancake could have done with some salt and more scallions. Frozen pancakes you can buy at the Asian food stores are better. The pan fried dumplings were ok. At least they were more flavorful than the scallion pancake. The noodles themselves were good. Light, but chewy. However, the meats that were with the noodles weren't good. My friend's beef was too soft and lacked any beef flavor. My roast pork looked and tasted old. We ended up eating the noodles and leaving the meat in the bowl. Since I don't at red meat, I can't go for their popular noodle soups as all their noodle soups have beef broth. Which leaves stir fried or dry mixed noodles. Unfortunately I am not a fan. I ordered the knife sliced (thicker sized) stir fried noodles with beef and an extra side of tofu for $3. I was not impressed at all. The beef was mostly CHEWY and a few times I thought I was going to choke and someone would have to perform the Heimlich maneuver or that I should spit it out. I decided to chew as best I could and hope for the best. The tofu portion was small and I thought it was going to be crispy but it wasn't. Also the noodle was inconsistent. Some pieces were fine and soft, while others were harder and stuck together. The flavor was just average to me. When my friend and I got to the restaurant there was only two tables taken. The restaurant isn't that big. There was an employee at the register but we had taken a few minutes to talk at a table and to peruse the menu. When we were ready and went to the register to order no one was there. A minute or so later someone came up. You pay via a tablet where it ask if you want to tip. Fyi, you take a number and someone brings your food out to you. It's a fast casual restaurant. When my friend and I left around 6:30 there were no tables left. That was a bit of a surprise to me. If I do come back, maybe I would enjoy a bowl of soup better. read more

Ahhh... So we decided to visit recently and our experience was unfortunately not as great. No indoor seating just yet, but there are chairs outside. Ordering was easy enough - you can order inside or online to go, but the wait took almost 50 minutes. They had estimated 20 minutes or so and we had taken a walk around, but came back and waited another 30 minutes before we got our food. Now don't get me wrong, the staff weren't sitting around or anything. They were just SO BUSY! It was dinner time on a weekday and had just one guy making the hand pulled noodles, which was probably the bottleneck for most of the orders. Once we got the food, the noodles were unfortunately a bit uneven - most of my dish was a bit bland, which there was one portion that was pretty salty and flavorful. First time dining in here. But I have been meaning to come in for awhile. I've had their dumplings and this time when I came I had the beef noodle soup. It was sooo good. I've actually had beef noodle soup in Lanzhou so eating this was very nice. I like the space. I wasn't expecting it to look like that. Bright and clean. I love noodles!! I have been wanting to try this place for the longest time! I needed something good to eat before my Zumba class. They are near Corner Bakery. If you're lucky you might have parking right out front. The menu is pretty basic. Which is good because I would be changing my mind a lot. I was in the area one weekend and wanted to have some lunch. Looked up some places on Yelp and came across this spot. I knew it opened recently, so I decided to check it out. Walked in and went straight to the counter (to the right was the kitchen and the left were tables/chairs). Closer to the entrance were some stools. There were 4 menus (same sheet) in front of me, each in its own plastic sleeve. The place seemed more like a casual spot. I casually just glanced at the menu and ordered the Chicken Noodle Stir Fried (only 2 words caught my eye when I ordered - Chicken and Noodles). I got it to go - it was in a rectangular case filled to the brim with Noodles. Once uncovered, I saw red peppers and green peppers which I picked out. I was left with the Noodles which were so good. I was surprised I ate everything in the container as there was enough to get 2 meals (I must have been hungry). I also wanted to try one of their side dishes (pics on Yelp helped make my decision), so I got their Chive Pork Dumplings (it comes steamed or fried). As I had never tasted this dish, I asked for 1/2 & 1/2 which I got - half steamed and half fried. I initially enjoyed just the fried ones - tasted perfect with the pork inside, but then I ended up liking the steamed ones as well - not soggy, made just right. Overall, I enjoyed the dishes I had. As I waited for my meal, I got a chance to see them roll the dough, stretch it and so I thought, it's fresh...cool. Authentic Chinese noodle house. I've had better though with leaner meat, more flavorful broth and more tender noodles. It was okay but for $12 a bowl I don't think I'll go back. I also had the shrimp pan fried dumplings that were pretty good. Some tough bits in the meat. The brisket was random in quality. There were some large chunks of meat that were very good. Then others were half fat and a few that had what looked like skin on them. Clearly not the style I was used to. Will be curious to see if there is a leaner meat option to try next time with much less sketchy bits. It's no "Pho" is all I'm trying to say. You pay in advance and they have one of those systems that asks you for a tip before you've sampled the food or the service. Plus you do most of the work yourself with regards to getting sauces, chop sticks, napkins, etc. it's the type of counter service where you usually wouldn't tip, or only give a dollar. But there it is... suggested tip amounts of 18% and 20% while the lady is staring at you and others are behind you in line. Luckily there was a 10% button... I hit that as I didn't have small bills on my own. It was $20.53 for 1 soup and 1 dumpling. Try it, but don't expect the greatest soup in the world. Also there are no soup dumplings. Some of the menu pictures must be from other locations. This is definitely an authentic Chinese restaurant. If you don't believe me, just walk into the store and the first thing you see is the chef pulling the noodles right in front of you. I was surprised at how there are two options for noodles: hand-pulled (thinner) and knife-sliced (thicker). Most hand-pulled noodle usually only offer one. I ordered the beef noodle soup with knife-sliced noodles and the pan fried pork bun. The beef was so tender and moist. The pan fried pork bun was crispy and so hot. It's like eating dumpling fillings inside a bun. Everything was so delicious. For the amount that you pay, there is a lot of food, so much that I had to ask for a to-go container. We havent been here in a while and while we were away they changed how you order food to touch screen and/or in person. So, I quickly went to the touch screen and found the beef noodle soup that I had been dreaming about -- i thought i had ordered it spicy and that they came with pickled veggies like the Taiwanese version but I must not have ordered it that way -- either way the soup was nice and brothy, with chunks of braised beef shank. The broth was studded with a couple of diakon slices, and bok choy? or chinese broccoli (i forget now) with the regular noodles. The noodles were bouncy as expected and the broth was flavorful -- so while it was not what i had intended, it was indeed just as good. However, the good doesnt stop here because I am a sucker for XLB and pan fried noodles and this place has both. I wish this place gave sliced ginger for the XLB but nonetheless the XLBs were good. I had moderate success in lifting them out of the steamer basket because of the spoon that i had to use -- perhaps I should ahve asked for a second soup spoon rather than employ the regular tablespoons they have out. I like the filling more than district dumplings BUT, found that i often poked holes in the bottom and all the soup would escape :(. The pan fried buns were good but i felt that the ones I've gotten here previously were better or Yu Noodles had better ones. Their dumplings in chili oil, however; is a whole different story. I love their wontons in chili oil -- everywhere else they have peanut butter in theirs, but this one.... just spicy chili oil. These were probably my favorite wrapped meat item (XLB, pan fried noodle, wonton in chili oil). I ended up using the chili oil and vinegar as part of the sauce for my pan fried buns. Although the Potbelly's and Corner Bakery still hold a special place in my heart, it's nice to get more casual options. We both had the Beef Brisket Pulled Noodle Soup with thin noodles. Took the family to Lanzhou hand-pulled noodle for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was full for a 1:30 meal but tables turn over pretty quickly. The kitchen was busy turning around some really gorgeous bowls of deliciousness. Ordered the beef combo which came with generous portions of tendon and beef. The duck soup was also really good. A side of steamed dumplings and pan fried roast pork noodles. It easily fed a family of four. Both soups hit the spot on hopefully the last 40 degree day of April. The dumplings had great flavor. The roast pork noodles were also a favorite. I love onions. Bring on the pan fried onions: (I'll happily eat the onions left over from my wife's Beijing beef from Panda). As you can see from the pictures. Both of my kids loved everything. I've never taught them to tip their bowls. I don't know where they learned it from? I asked my oldest daughter and she said, " it was so yummy I had to get the last few sips". So... I guess they both loved it so much they tipped their bowls. The spoons are like long ladles. I prefer the traditional Chinese soup spoons. However, they were great for the kids who would normally loose their spoons in their deep soup. There really is a difference between these hand pulled noodles and those from other restaurants that may be pre-processed at an external facility. You can taste the freshness in each and every single meal. Even though you order at a kiosk inside, there is still a huge deal of great customer service from the support staff at this restaurant, and it feels very welcoming to come here. In all honesty a 3.5 out of 5. We came the opening week and things were still pretty madcap. You place your order and then it's a race to find an open spot to sit at. You are responsible for getting your water, your condiments/sauces, etc. That area can be better organized and be kept cleaner. The tables should be cleaned/wiped down properly before the next diner(s) sit there. I ordered a bowl of beef noodle soup and the best thing going for this place is the amount of food for the price. I'm more partial to the spicy version or rather the Taiwanese Beef noodle soup style of soups, but this was good anyways. I wish they had been open earlier in winter, when it was soup weather. There's potentially for improvement but overall I like this place. 3.5 stars The layout: It's very crowded so coming during lunch hour you not only have to prepare to wait, and it will be hard to find a seat that doesn't physically touch another person. The station for napkins and sauces is in a very difficult location to get to and if you don't like large crowds it's pretty daunting to try and get to it. The food: I got the beef noodle soup and pork chive dumplings. Originally I wanted beef and tomato but I was told that was sweet and that's not the flavor profile I was looking for. Dumplings: They were really good I'd come back just for the dumplings. I don't know if they are made in house but they didn't taste frozen The soup: It's a nice sized portion for lunch. The beef soup flavoring was a little disappointing but has potential. The broth had an extremely light seasoning, so i expected the beef or noodles to have seasoning. The noodles were not salted so there is no flavor at all with them despite being made in house. The beef was a very fatty cut so be prepared to have large pieces of fat without meat attached in your soup. Liking a fatty cut is personal taste and I didn't care either way. I ended up adding some of the dumplings sauce concoction I made to the soup to give it more flavor. I'll visit this place again in a few weeks to see if anything has changed and too try something new. read more

I've been waiting for a good hand pulled noodle place around the dmv area. This place definitely tops the other places I've tried around the area in regards to noodle texture. I thought that the noodles in my soup had the perfect amount of chewiness. Comparable to the noodles from New World Mall foodcourt and Lanzhou noodle shops in NY that I've tried. Finally! The broth is delicate, better after the addition of vinegar and chili oil (self serve) but it is meant to accentuate the noodles. I think that if you're looking for a lot of flavor, the stir fried noodles are the way to go. I wish I could've eaten both! Next time. The scallion pancake came out after the soup, but it was really fresh and crispy. It looked like an Indian paratha with scallions in it. Paired with the dumpling sauce they provide at the condiments bar, it was amazing. The service was good, staff seemed friendly.
