On the hunt for a Diet Coke we stumbled across this gem and holy cow it blew my mind! The beet salad was literally one of my favorite salads ever! We also had the fresh catch ahi Sandwich with fries and it was amazing as well! Cooked perfectly! The beer was also delightful and the perfect pairing! Now I just have to find that Diet Coke

This tiny (cozy) brewery fills up fast so head over early. About half of the seating is outdoors, so don't forget your rain jacket. The pizza was fantastic and nothing beats a dark bear in cold, rainy weather.

I came around 7pm on a Tuesday and waited around 5 minutes for a table. It was pretty busy, but service was fast. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. It was cozy inside the restaurant. pig & fire -- the pizza dough was really good. it was nice and crispy, while also being fluffy. The ratio of toppings was a bit off though-- I'm a mushroom lover but this was too much mushroom, there was more mushroom than meat. Also there wasn't that much cheese so the toppings weren't staying on top of the pizza. I liked the roasted garlic in this, but again there wasn't barely any meat. volcano style ramen -- I wanted to like this, but it was pretty flavorless. The broth didn't taste like much and the mushrooms and bokchoy also just tasted like water. The pork was way too salty though. If you come here I'd go for the pizza instead, skip the ramen.

A short drive from the park, we stopped in for some local craft beer. The small dining area inside was full, we sat on the patio at a high top and enjoyed the views of the slow comings and going of the locals. The waitress was very friendly and engaging. Subject to personal taste, I had the Pillbox Porter and Moku Imperial IPA. Both excellent flavor without being overwhelming. Looking around at other tables, seemed people were really enjoying the wood cooked pizzas! Have to try one next visit.

Place is clean. It's very small and there's a tv that keeps up with the volcano. The service is fast and friendly. They went over the menu and where to find things. We ordered the tacos as an app. My husband got the ramen and I got the short ribs. They were out of the raw menu and one of the desserts. The food was really good. We are from New Orleans so we are big food people. I think this was the first place we said we would come back to again. Id skip the tacos and get the fries - the fries look really good

We're staying in Volcano and there are not a lot of options for food and drinks. Lanikai Brewing is a gem in the ashes. The Bees Knees pizza is amazing! The combination of pesto, goat cheese and hot honey combined with the salty pepperoni is perfection. Their pizza crust is light and airy. The La Suprema pizza was also delicious but the toppings were very heavy so the crust was soggy in the middle. Great beer options and I really enjoyed the Kau Weala Cooler - so refreshing. Great service. We were checked in on often.

This place was quite busy on a Sunday evening- there was a long line but it went down pretty quickly. They were out of most of their appetizers and all of the salads. Food came out fairly quickly though The volcano ramen's broth was pretty watery, not very flavorful. Also the beef in the sort rib adobo was a bit too salty for my taste. The fish curry was very good, as well as the bees knee's pizza. I would definitely get these again!

Food around volcano national park is limited and pricey. This, in addition to the Kileau Military Camp, are good tasty options. Food - the Ulu tacos are a delight. We've never had them before and wanted to try. Ramen broth is not very flavorful but the pork belly is very tasty. Sausage pizza with caramelized onions is good, easy to share for 2 people. Coconut haupia pudding is refreshing. Service - fast and friendly. Always a wait after 7pm. They usually have empty tables but because they don't have enough serving staff it's hard to turn the tables around quickly.

We always eat here on our monthly staycation from Waimea side, never disappointed! We usually have pizza and salad which are excellent, (had the day before this meal) and chased down with one of my favorite Lanikai Shave Ice tropical seltzers. This evening I had their yummy Ulu tacos, my friends chose the huge bowl of Vegetarian Ramen and Fish Nuggets. We always look forward to returning to this sweet spot, with great staff and a cozy atmosphere.

Stopped here after visiting the volcano! Loved the meal and the space. It was outdoorsy feel and kinda intimate for being a brewery (in a good way). We loved it and the food was delicious!!!!

Friendly staff, quick service. Delicious food spot. Went as a group of 7 near closing and were quickly & happily seated. I didn't feel rushed at all, and the dishes came out fast. The ulu tacos were very unique and delicious! I thought I wouldn't enjoy them but the mix of toppings and flavors, along with the soft potato-y texture of the ulu, were simply delicious. However, the catch of the day (or whatever the daily fish dish is called) was PHENOMENAL. I've been to quite a few restaurants and this was absolutely a fine dining-level dish. The curry was sweet, coconutty, and rich, with deliciously soft pieces of purple sweet potato and squash. And the ahi- I didn't think ahi matched curry as I like my ahi raw, but this dish changed my mind. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, perfectly juicy and tender.

This place was so good!!! Highly recommend the pizzas and the wasabi cocktail and the li hing mui seltzer. We bought a pack of those to go they were so good!

The food was good overall - but you are paying touristy prices. Things my party tried: - Kona kampachi and lobster - this was my pick and it was great! The fish was perfectly cooked and loved the sauce. They include ginger and Japanese pickled veggies, which I love, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. The lobster tail half was also a good size and hit the spot. My only gripe was I didn't have a small lobster fork, so had to dig into the lobster with my fingers. - my BiL devoured the rib eye and said it was good. - my brother really enjoyed the stuffed chicken. It was my second option.. and I won't lie it looked really good. - my SIL for the pesto pasta and added steak. The pasta was meh, but the steak was great. - the kids menu were hits. The mahi mahi comes with fruit, but the hot dog doesn't. It was just odd that fruit wasn't available for all kids menu options. - shrimp scampi pizza was pretty good. Nice flavors. All in all a great family dinner spot with great views. The staff was really friendly too! Would I come back - definitely!

Be nice to the staff, they are working fast and the best they can. You need to make reservations ahead of time for the restaurant. There is a walk up option at the bar with a limited menu, but still good. Again, be patient. The staff moved fast and got us in quick. Our wait was not too long for walk up at the bar, despite how packed and busy it was. Food was good and came out quick. Staff is friendly and shared some suggestions to visit locals places as we were visiting from the mainland. No matter if you eat in the bar or restaurant, you will have amazing views of the volcano. There's an outdoor area for photos and the amazing views. There's a gift shop. Please be sure to visit and support. There is beautiful art of the volcano in the lobby for you to view and enjoy.

My wife and I stopped by for pre-dinner drinks and we absolutely loved the drinks that we were able to try out. I started out with a cocktail called the "Spam Dram", a crispy Spam fat-washed barrel-proof bourbon, combined with seared Spam and nori syrup and topped off with a spam musubi garnish. As one might guess, this drink was presented in a spam musubi tin, and atop the bed of crushed ice was an *entire* spam musubi. The drink was a perfect representation of spam musubi in a glass -- sweet, savory, and full of umami. Props to whichever bartender put together this creative drink. The next drink I ordered was the "Smoky Bear", another bourbon based cocktail. This one had bird's eye chili essence in it, and was much closer than your traditional Old Fashioned, except it had an incredible amount of smokiness and a punch of heat to it as well. If you enjoy stiff drinks with complexity, look no further than this cocktail. While we were seated at the bar, we overheard somebody close to us mentioning a password special that had been posted on the Instagram page of The Hidden Nene. We checked their latest story posted two hours earlier and the password special for the day was a "fizz me baby one more time", a strawberry and yuzu gin fizz. My wife ordered this cocktail as her second drink and loved how refreshing the drink tasted. Overall, if you consider yourself a cocktail connoisseur, you owe it to yourself to check out The Hidden Nene if you're in Hilo.

We're staying close by so I drive over and make the takeout order in person. Super easy and a member of staff is there to take my order as soon as I walk in the door. After taking my order and payment, I'm told to hang outside at a red bench in their courtyard which I guess you could also eat at but also serves as their de facto holding pen as another guy is also out there doing the same thing I'm doing. After 15 or so minutes everything is brought out to me. Caprese Burger - California Burger - Bacon Cheese Burger Let me start with what's good. The burgers were all cooked to their requested temperatures. The fries were also decent as well and many packets of ketchup and mayo were put in the bag if needed. What's not good. The buns are not toasted so in a takeout environment they become straight up wet diaper soggy and it's also disconcerting when you ask for the bacon to be cooked crispy and it's served white/soggy/limp and barely cooked. Everything seemed nice enough inside and if ever back on the Big Island I would probably try HBJ again, but if you're taking online orders, please enable the platform and if not, remove the website prompt that you do and cook the bacon dammit, wet noodle is never fun.
