Ola Brew is a Hawaiʻi Island based brewery with two taprooms. We visited the Hilo location first which had more of a restaurant feel. This Kona location gave me more traditional taproom vibes. There is plenty of seating around the bar as well as tables scattered throughout the room. Sports fans can catch live events broadcasting from the TVs in the bar area. If you're looking for merch, check out the private room opposite the bar. Parking can be hard to come by at both locations. Expect a unique restaurant menu including a variety of salads and pizzas as well as favorites like bao buns, kalua pork tacos, and fish n chips. To drink, Ola serves up craft beers, flights, hard seltzers, and hard juices...I def tasted the ALOHA! I've eaten at the Hilo location a couple of years ago, and wanted to see what the Kona taproom is like. It's out of the way, closer to the Costco than downtown. Parking can be a bit tight. Their lot only has space for 3-4 cars, so expect street parking. The venue itself is nicely laid out, spacious, with lots of wood and pretty design features. Plenty of tables, bar tops, and bar seating. There's also a side room with merch. The drinks on offer don't include their okoleha'o yet, but there's a very nice variety. My friend and I both had hard seltzers, which are always refreshing and delicious without being too sweet. The smash burgers and shoe string fries are so good, and the service is outstanding! A great little local brewery. We walked in for a break from the heat. The air conditioning was blowing but only seemed to move the warm area around. The main seating area has a limited table selection. But let's get vwck to the beer and food. The food selection is okay with the highlight being the fish burger that is wonderful and deep fried cauliflower is another highlight for food selection. The beer selection is very good, after all this is a brewery. From pilsner through porter all of the boxes for me. The service here is pretty good with ordering at the bar for food and beverage. There is another brewery just down the street that might be a slightly better choice. read more

Since these reviews are generally food-centric, I'm going to focus on the food, not the beer, because the beard ola has always been top notch. No complaints whatsoever there. Food-wise, we ordered the fungi pizza with added chicken and jalapenos. We were both pretty disappointed at what $26 got us in the way of what looked like a kids size pizza. The arugula was great but it was almost a salad on top of the pizza by itself so it made it very hard to grab some arugula. While you're trying to manage a slice of pizza. The pizza wasn't bad but just really didn't have a lot of pizzazz (pun intended). Would I order it again, maybe, but not at the $26 price for what you get. I know things are high here. We're regular and repeat visitors of the islands, but I think ola could do a little bit better with their prices for something so small. read more

My wife and I stopped by Ola Brew on a Monday afternoon for some beers and the brewery was not too busy, with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Ordering is at the bar and you find seating wherever you can. Ola Brew has it all covered in terms of your typical bar amenities: they had two large TVs setup broadcasting hockey and an NBA game, board games, outlets for charging your devices, and I even saw somebody with their laptop out getting some work done. I ordered their Kiawe vanilla porter and really enjoyed the subtle vanilla notes and that the beer was not sweet. Having just done a vanilla tour earlier in the day on the north side of the island, I had a new appreciation for how vanilla is used across different food products. Far too often vanilla is associated only with sweet items, so I liked its application here in beer as an after-note on the palette. Definitely a beer I would get again! read more

There's some salads, some pizzas, and some "favorites". Decent crowd due to the World Cup. They have plenty of drinks due to their brewery. They also have a nice selection of food (for a brewery) but it is a bit pricey for bar food. We ordered the roasted beet salad with chicken and 6 buffalo wings. The food came out fast and had great flavor. The bartender was very friendly and provided us with recommendations not only for Ola but also in the area. He even switched the tv to a game I wanted to watch. I love a good brewery so I had to check out Ola when reading up on where to grab a drink on the Big Island. They have a small parking lot with a couple spots but it's in an industrial area so there's street parking. Throughout the time we were there it was great to see the staff engaging with the regulars and be so welcoming. The space is a little unassuming at first as you need to order inside but they seem to have plenty of connecting indoor spaces and even outdoor spaces for large groups. We opted for bar seating so we could watch the game while we enjoyed our flights. The flights were a great way to try their classic beers and some of their seltzers. read more

The OG beer flight was a fun way to taste all the local beers they brew, and the hard seltzer was light and refreshing. I've had their other hard seltzers and I'd say the lemon lime wasn't my favorite flavor, but the ginger and hibiscus lavender are yummy! Vibe: The restaurant has a slightly dark, chill vibe with multiple TVs playing sports games throughout the restaurant. You can order your drinks at the bar. They have food, which we didn't order but all the dishes that others were eating looked delicious! The staff were friendly and the restaurant itself wasn't too crowded, but had a fun vibe that wasn't too loud or rowdy. The review is just for the food since we didn't get to try the beers and wasn't there when their is live music - likely would be great ambiance. The burger and wings were both decent. Beer is the best on the island by far BUT the food needs improving. The waiter told me the fish and chips were tempura battered and it was extremely far from that. It was literally battered like a hot dog and was soggy. I wouldn't call this fish and chips. The coleslaw it came with wasn't even dressed and the vegetables looked like they've been sitting in the fridge for days. My boyfriend got the wings which came recommended by the bartender. Not much parking in the lot, but could be easy to find on the street! It was our first stop of our Hawaii trip since I came in through a late flight. Walking in, the vibes were really nice! They had a live singer and people in the restaurant were also singing along. At the counter, we ordered a pestoroni pizza and a sunset drink to share. Honestly the pizza took a longggg while for some reason, we were just about to call in and check for the update, but finally our pizza arrived. First few bites, the pizza was really nice (probably bc I was hungry) but after settling in and thinking about it... it's just a pepperoni pizza with pesto sauce 'drizzle' haha. I wish the crust was softer, but it's a basic pizza. Gets the job done. Trying the sunset drink, it was our first time trying something like this, or a "hard juice" and I guess it's quite literal. Well I have always loved Ola Brew but I hate - like detest - like nails on a chalkboard- country music ( sorry if you like it , I really don't ) so when it was my last night in Hawaii and we headed here / this was the last thing o expected and it killed the whole experience for me !
