First timer here after living here for 7 years. Brahhhhhhhhh!!! The onion rings was super ono and crispy.... So crispy, I could literally see the crisp on the crispy!!! The flavor was normal, tasted good, but the texture and crunch made it 1000% enjoyable. I also got the chile because apparently that's the thing to get when you come here. It wasn't what I expected, but that's not a bad thing. Their spin on chile is different. It's like spaghetti sauce, jambalaya, and chile all made a baby together. It felt like a home cooked meal. My wife and I stopped by Hirano Store around 10:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning to grab a quick bite. We picked up a bowl of chili (without rice) and a bowl of mac salad. Since both items we ordered had been prepared beforehand and didn't require additional cooking, our order was ready in about three minutes. Overall, I thought the chili was just ok. Although all the ingredients in the chili were properly cooked, the chili as a whole lacked depth of flavor. Additionally, when I opened the container, there was an unappetizing amount of oil that had pooled to the top. I am not used to seeing olives and mushrooms mixed into chili, but these additions added some more texture to the chili. The mac salad was a big miss for me. I thought the macaroni was slightly overcooked, the salad lacked salt, and there was just too much mayo mixed in. I'm genuinely curious if I ordered all the wrong items, because other folks seem to really enjoy food from Hirano Store. Based off of my single experience today, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Hirano Store again. read more

Highly recommended best roast pork plate lunch ever big island buzz ok a few more thoughts

On our way to hike Volcanoes Park on 4/1, we needed caffeine boost and found this gem. Had self-serve brewed coffee with simple condiments. Staff was friendly and helpful. Then after we finished paying for our coffee, another lady handed us 2 fresly made sandwiches, tuna and egg. We thought this was so kind and Aloha filled with blessings, because we ate them before our hike; and later realized that we didn't pack snacks, only water. So, Mahalo nui loa to you who thought of giving us sandwiches. Made our day better as we celebrated our 45th Anniversary in Hilo with a hike. I've been a customer here since moving to Glenwood in 2006....its always been my go to store for everything Prices are affordable, snacks, beer and drinks have a good variety However my review right now is solely on the food Don't miss out on the specials if you get there before 1pm when the kitchen is still open. Immaculate place. No frills, just vibes. A very unassuming place, when you walk in they have a great menu and really good food. Excellent place to pick up a meal. The staff are very friendly and the store has some interesting items. Seems like the store is very popular in the area. We got a chili dog plate and chili bowl for lunch on our way to Volcanoes National Park. The chili is loaded with ingredients and flavor! We've had it several times and will be back again on your next visit. Our lunch was so delicious as we enjoyed eating at a picnic table next to the visitor's center. read more

I appreciate that there is a local store nearby I just feel it's time for a much needed upgrade. Looks like the shelves where put in in the 80's and the refrigerators are all passed warranty. Glenwood is an area of rapid improvement it's time for the local store to represent that. The restaurant has potential but they close early and have nearly zero vegan options. French fries and a juice is about all you can get if you don't want to end up with diabetes/ heart disease. Nice people work there though. Just wish the owners cared more about their legacy, can't help but feel it's going to be sold out to become a 7-11 or some sort. There's no style or motif at all to the place it's just a place you go when your desperate and don't feel like driving 15min to volcano. Time for an upgrade it's 2022. read more

Love coming to Hirano Store for their Ham breakfast sandwiches. Even though I ate or have breakfast, I have to have this breakfast sandwich. The egg is cooked excellently, Mayo is added for flavor, the bread is nice and soft, and the ham is great; it literally melts in your mouth with every bite. Hirano Store is a must-stop on your way out past Volcano, you will not go wrong with this sandwich. I neve They have lots more items on the menu to choose from. Kitchen closes at 2. Staff is friendly. The owner is always there making the food, so you know he is dedicated to his business and the customer service is always great. read more

Small little convience store located on the side of the road by Volcanoe land lol has a bathroom but I wouldn't risk it! Everything in here from small grinds to ice bags for your cooler. I actually appriciate little stores like this on Hawaii brings me back to when our aina wasn't so conjested by all the industrialization and whatever. The staff are cool and parkings good too.
