    Different slurpee flavors.

Hawaii 7-Elevens are the best! This one had a variety of different Hawaiian foods such as rolls, musubis, filled steamed buns and entrees. All are reasonably priced. They also have Slurpees with Hawaiian flavors. Only downside is they do not do 7-Eleven rewards but their unique products definitely make up for that.

I hate to say that 7/11 is the best thing on this island but it truly is. So many selections of onigiris and rolls and local noodle bowls help confirm that you can't beat the value and the taste of the convenience store. This is a solid stopping place before the next hike or beach day without breaking the bank.

Ahhh, 7-Eleven. I can't possibly express to you how integral this particular 7-Eleven has been to the lives of Waiakea High School students for decades. A short walk down the street from the high school and university, this 7-Eleven sees probably the most traffic of any on the island. Inundated by hungry teenagers and young adults from the hours of 2:00pm-4:00pm, this place has seen everything. And while the bar for quality is admittedly quite low for its general patronage, this little 7-Eleven is solid for what it is. 7-Eleven's fare is actually perfectly tailored to this location's primary client-base. Smallish snacks that range from about $1.50 to $5.00. It's the perfect pricepoint to take advantage of a high schooler or college student's pocket change. Serving things ranging from bags of chips to sugary drinks to spam musubis to a wide variety of manapuas (I STRONGLY recommend the curry chicken manapua), they've perfected the formula. Also a very underrated service provided by this and every other 7-Eleven, gift cards galore. Got you a special event that you completely forgot about until an hour beforehand? Trust me, nothing says 'thoughtful gift' like an iTunes gift card. Trust me... If there is one gripe I have with 7-Eleven, it's that the 99 cent Arizona Iced Tea that was such a staple in my childhood is now like $1.30. And I'm sorry, but that is absolutely criminal. Seriously. Somebody needs to answer for this. I'm not trying to be extra or anything, but a few months in prison wouldn't be the worst thing. Just saying! Anyway, this 7-Eleven is special to me and even though it's basically the same as any other 7-Eleven, it's a good one! Edit: The photos posted by the business for this 7-Eleven (and I assume all the rest of them) are trying way too hard. Own that you're selling garbage food for high school kids. We all know anyway.

7-11 spam musubis are classic must-haves when visiting Hawaii. You can choose your musubis from the refrigerated or hot food section next to the check-out counter. There are regular musubis (~$1.99) and deluxe musubis (~$2+). The hot food musubis are perfect when you want something warm and delicious for your belly. I've noticed that 7-11 musubis consistently have the best spam to rice to sauce ratio vs musubis you get elsewhere. The deluxe spam & egg musubi is solid. The rice is soft and you get a thick cut of spam to tide over with. I really enjoyed the spam katsu musubi. It's deliciously crispy and glazed with savory katsu sauce. There are also many other musubi choices, so pick whatever calls out to your soul. There's also a hot shelf of manapua (buns aka baos). The Char Siu (BBQ pork) manapua is lightly sweet and contains a satisfactory portion of meat. It's perfect as a car ride treat. So many choices, so little time. If you're on the East side of the island, make sure to swing by a 7-11 & try all the cool snacks they offer :)

When a store is the only game in town for goods near a tourist entry point, one would expect/accept…read morehigh prices. Instead, Keaukaha General Store (within easy walking distance of the Port of Hilo) provided a great selection of sundries, some souvenirs of Hilo, and a small menu of Hawaiian favorite dishes at prices that were the lowest I've seen in Hawaii. My wife and I came here twice: first while walking into town, when we picked up souvenirs and an unexpected loco moco plate. It was a lot less crowded then, with us being the only ones there...allowing us to have a completely different experience. When we came back as we headed back towards the ship, other cruisers from the ship had discovered this place, and were stocking up on various things. It's a large modern space inside, with things organized displayed very neatly. There was no sense I needed to check for expiration dates. There was a portable ATM machine right by the door. A decent selection of alcohol at good prices were displayed (e.g. $8.81 for a bottle of Barefoot Cab or $18.99 for a 12 pack of Budweiser). I took the opportunity to get something I've not seen elsewhere: a bag of dried clams (aka Asari) for $4.19. Ended up finishing it that night...was really good. It has an all day menu, and was able to order a Loco Moco for breakfast. The all beef patty was very thick and dense, definitely from a frozen patty...good for Salisbury steak or Loco Moco, but wouldn't be great for a burger. The brown gravy was served hot and hadn't congealed, and the 1 egg had been cooked over easy, just as requested. It was obviously freshly made. It was packed to-go, with condiments and utensils available near the registers. There wasn't much space to eat inside, but because it wasn't too busy, found a space to sit in the back. I scarfed it down (probably too fast) while my wife finished her shopping. Also in the back, there are gourmet coffee machines and a chest freeze full of hand scoopable ice cream. There is a Pepsi self serve soda machine, along with various sizes of chips. My wife initially bought a couple of t-shirts as requested souvenirs for our travel mates ($25 a piece), and bought another one as we were heading back. On the 1st trip, she also liked a perfume body mist...the tester was the last one so the attendant sold it for half price ($14). For us, she bought a Hilo waterproof sticker for $2.75. And her favorite part of the store was the small portable Pokémon card machine, that dispensed random Japanese Pokémon cards for a quarter. She kept changing out dollars for quarters and ended up getting $5.75 of them...and a couple of them were hollos that we like. They do charge a 3.25% credit card fee, so cash is preferred when possible.

Located on the way to the Hilo beaches and in the industrial area. Here you'll find a small variety…read moreof hot foods, poke and tons of drinks and ice.
