Fat and gristle! Disgusting!
Jeff M.

My wife and I had our wedding reception 23 years ago at what used to be the New London Country Club, now the Great Neck Country Club. We hadn't been there since our wedding so we decided to take a drive down there to try the restaurant, Langley's, for our anniversary dinner. When we arrived around 5:45 we were the only ones in the restaurant. We thought it's a Monday and we're there at an early time, no problem. We started out with drinks and then decided on our meals. My wife decided on a side salad and the Blackened New York Strip topped with Gorgonzola Alfredo sauce minus the mushrooms at $38 and I chose the Pan Seared Scallops with tequila lime and wasabi mash potatoes at $31. When we got our meals it included zucchini and squash. Not our favorite vegetables but not a big deal. My scallops looked a dead white color with no signs of being seared and no type of seasoned except the tequila lime. They were a little sand crunchy and should have been rinsed more thoroughly. My wife actually heard the crunch when I was chewing! The wasabi mashed potatoes tasted like, well, plain mashed potatoes with potato skins mixed in. No taste of wasabi whatsoever. The zucchini and squash was ok. I am not one who complains about food that much or leaves reviews but after seeing the slab of mostly fat and gristle that my wife thought was steak (see photo) I had to comment. To be fair, she did say the Gorgonzola sauce was tasty. The rice pilaf was dry and chewy. Overall, we sadly have to say that these were two of the worst meals we have ever had. The price of each meal was way over the quality of the food. Absolutely disgusting. We left Langley's very disappointed and over $120 lighter in my wallet never to be considered again.

We went here for Father's Day. We ordered off the menu...the nachos were good but my daughter & I both had the chicken frances (spelling on the menu) she had fries & I had mashed potatoes but the chicken was too overwhelming of lemon & my husband had the baked scrod. The service was mediocre at best & it wasn't even that busy. Our waitress wasn't very attentive & never asked my husband if he wanted another beer...she only came & checked if everything was ok once & the bus attendees were the ones that brought our bread & kept refilling our water. Our waitress also was a little condescending to the bus attendees when asking about where the trays were as well. It definitely wasn't worth the money that they charged. Another turn off was that we waited quite a while for our food & our appetizer came out & our dinners came out right on top of it. Positive about the place was the view which was an absolutely stunning view of the golf course. The banquet food here is outstanding though. I don't think we'd go to the restaurant again but maybe we'd try the bar next time. If we did go to the restaurant again I would ask for Jillian as my waitress because she's the best one there!

TO BE FAIR THE WINGS WERE FIRE And I WENT ON A MONDAY…read more I'm giving this place 3/5 stars because the food was great, the hostess was extremely attentive but I simply did not get the full experience of the location due to the time and day. Therefore, I will need to revisit to give a better review. I visited The Blue Duck this past Monday, on Presidents' Day at happy hour. I got there around 3 and left just before 5. The wings were 5 for a little over $5 or something like that. Which honestly $1 wing in this economy! Excellent for my pockets. Anyways, the place was quiet, a few people did start coming in as I was leaving, and again, I came on a Monday. Not really a peak bar day. But I would say the location is near the water which is a plus. The seating area at the bar was massive. I'm curious to see how busy it gets on the weekend. This isn't necessarily and instagramable/ social media picturesque kind of spot. Ok, so the wings- I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH- they were AMAZING . I love it when the skin after being smothered in sauce is still crispy. And they were! The blue cheese wasn't liquidity or too chunky. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best part- for me- is that they were the shoestring kind of fries. I'm not big on the steak fries or thicker cuts. They were salted just right! No condiments needed for dipping. I ordered two drinks, which I honestly wasn't too impressed by. But it's my bad. I probably should have stuck to shots or basics like A sour of some sort. Idk. The other drinks could be delicious. Overall the only reason at this point that I'm coming back is the wings. Truthfully, the only reason I traveled 45 minutes to New London was after seeing an IG post about all-you-can-eat wings on Mondays. Sadly they aren't doing that anymore.

Apparently this is an institution (at least based on the shirts and paraphernalia they sell with The Shack name on it). The food was pretty standard fare, nothing crazy or out of the ordinary here, maybe some fun names for their everything but the kitchen sink omelettes (The Shanty and The Mess come to mind). Bottom line is they know their way around deep fryers, and they know eggs. My only regret is ordering the banana cream pie - crust was okay, banana pieces were good, the top "cream" part was like an odd key lime consistency and sour flavor that I did not expect or cared for. P.S. They have a massive senior citizen following, but that shouldn't be a negative like other reviewers seem to have made it. They like what they like, and then seniors like The Shack!

When the burger finally arrived we sent it back because it was well done and charred on the bottom. We reordered the hamburger medium rare again. It took forever for the burger to be delivered to us. However, it did come medium rare this second time. I ordered clam chowder and the color of it was an appetite killer. The was extremely salty and I sent it back. I also ordered clam cakes. They had the most unusual flavor that I have never experience before at other seafood places. The cake had very few clams and was doughy. Not appealing at all. I managed to take one bite out of one cake and left the rest to be discarded. Two of us ordered lobster rolls. Mine was a "cold" lobster roll. I found a piece of ice in the lobster. For the price of the roll, $32, the amount of lobster was somewhat scant. The mac-n-cheese we ordered was the only highlight of our meal. It was rich and creamy with a wonderful mixture of cheeses. The waitress was very accommodating and pleasant. I am rating this restaurant 2 stars because of these two pluses! Otherwise, would be one star. It is safe to say that my party and I will never return to Sellfish again!

The place is very big, so if you are going with a group or family they have the space. There is a small awkward parking lot in the back, so mostly street parking. Arrived (party of 4) just after 5pm, took a few minutes to be sat, even though the place was empty. One bartender and one waitress. Received two menus and were told to scan the QR code on the table, seemed odd. It took a while to give our order, so we ordered everything at once. Wings, truffle fries to start. Scallop Risotto, Fish& chips, fried shrimp basket and caesar salad with chicken. Drinks arrived minus one because they were out of the whiskey, provided a replacement, but the drink never came to the table. Food was ok. The fried things were very tasty and well made. The wings were nice, tender and good sauce/flavor. Truffle fires were good, little heavy on the truffle oil, but tasty Scallops were prepared well but the "risotto" was more like rice pilaf. The caesar salad was nicely dressed, the added chicken was grill to as close to raw and still be "cooked". It was very soft and chewy - that was pushed to the side. If you go, stick to the bar, brunch, apps, or something fired. I think this place is good if you go when they are fully staffed or something. I would happy choose someplace else if I were in town for a show.
