There is a very nice indoor/outdoor pavilion that is often rented for special events. There are multiple area for both child play under a covered playground and a covered area for adults to use the manual workout machines. The wide open space is great for horses to get a nice ride and to rinse off at the watering areas. The lakes and streams are filled with wild life that is indigenous to the area. Just taking a walk and listening to the sounds of nature is truly calming. On the weekends this county park gets very loud and crowded but because the park is so massive, there is always a place to relax.

Here you can also see wildlife such as burrowing owls, butterflies and birds. If you enjoy fishing, there are also areas to do some catch and release fishing. For being outside, all the surrounding trees offer plenty of shade. The area we were in was a small part of the park- but offered plenty of room for the event. There were bathrooms- well maintained and a picnic table area that was shaded too. We were right next to the event rental space- of which I've been too in the past for a wedding. There is an area within the park that is a community garden- where you can rent your own plot and plant. Very cool! You'll likely see people riding horses though which is cool too!

Plenty of grassy areas to play fetch with your dog, toss a frisbee, take a jog or just read a good book under the sprawling trees.

The trail is nicely shaded and has a paved walkway which makes it easy for parents pushing their child in a stroller or the casual jogger out on a nice morning. The trail has plenty of benches as well as beautiful views of the natural landscape and the water that separates the path from the golfers on the course. Along the way there are information boards to learn about the Preserve environment. There are emergency posts located along the 1.1 mile trail incase there is a problem if 911 needs to be called. I also noticed a cute painted rock collection that stretches over 30 yards in the shape of a snake. Next time I will will be bringing a rock to contribute. Overall, I thought this place was great on a nice day but it would be too hot during the summer to visit.

There are no shaded areas so plan to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. However, if you end up here right in the middle of the day, don't worry! There is a big mall within a 10 min drive so you can make this a day trip!

Other signs advise pets permitted by park permit only, but does not indicate on the posts about service dogs - kind of confusing. They provide guided nature walks through the park which seems like a fun tranquil activity for people with good knees and a decent pair of binoculars. The far west side of the park provides beautiful views of the New River and small critters like crabs along the waters edge.
