Zinkil Park is located in the Washington Park neighborhood of Hollywood. This popular neighborhood park has many great amenities that draw the community in for play, recreation, and exercise. Adult residents enjoy the lighted walking trail with 10 exercise stations while children flock to the splash pad and large, updated playground with shade cover. The park also has a restroom. As I was walking for exercise I enjoyed the antics of the neighborhood squirrels who all had big personalities. Large shade trees and beautiful landscaping throughout the park make you feel removed from the urban hustle and bustle of the surrounding neighborhood.
Zinkil Park was named in honor of William G. Zinkil (April 14, 1919 - 2011). Zinkil was born in Chicago, Illinois and in 1925 moved to Hollywood, Florida where he became the first elected mayor of the city. He went on to serve as a Democratic member for the 85th district of the Florida House of Representatives. In 1970, Zinkil was elected to represent the 85th district of the Florida House of Representatives where he served until 1972. That same year he was elected to represent the 32nd district of the Florida Senate where he served until 1978. The Zinkil's are a prominent Hollywood family and they donated the land for the park. read more
