The Privateer Inn had the best fish and chips with creamy coleslaw. It was and always a bit pricey but high quality and I always looked forward to it when in Liverpool over the past 13 years..The seafood chowder which was large but bland and at $22 quite expensive.. Had a 2 piece fish and chips and it was barely warm and not very good. It cost about $26 which is a ripoff for such poor quality.. The former creamy coleslaw was now bland.. A glass of wine was $14 and a beer $8.99..Total bill with tip was $88 for a lunch..Poor quality and way too expensive.. I won,t be going back. read more

Nice cozy restaurant tucked away in an Inn. I had dinner here at the recommendation of my hotel employee. Lane's has a couple of vegetarian options. I started with a Hell Bay English Ale, locally brewed, and very hopsy. I was tempted by the Seafood Feast, but knew tonight was not a good night to order a lot of food. I was drawn to the Quinoa, Kale & Blueberry Salad. And it was very good. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. For the main course I opted for the seafood chowder. It was loaded. Wife and I had lunch here 07/07/21. Service was excellent, waitress was very nice and attentive, despite being the only one with an almost full dining room. Restaurant was clean, bathrooms where clean. Meals Fish and chips with extra fish. - fish was excellent! The batter was light and crispy not a thick heavy batter , fish was very much fresh. Sides- salad was fresh and crunchy. Good portion of fries, only thing that would make it better is it it was fresh cut fries. Autumn salad and chowder. Salad was very fresh and tasted amazing. Seafood Chowder was excellent, it had fresh scallops, and lobster, the seafood was not over cooked or rubbery. Only very minor complaint was it was oddly thick. Will go back for sure. 8/10 Bill was under $50 read more

Wow what a surprise we had when we started eating. Sooo yummmy! I ordered the beet salad and the seafood chowder. The salad was loaded with cashews, goat cheese and beets and came with a thick uber rich balsamic reduction vinaigrette. Wow lip smacking, literally!! I loved it so much the server brought me a lid for the container to take it home. The seafood chowder is loaded with fish, scallops and lobster and came with a freshly baked mini scone biscuit. So tender. Hubby ordered fish n chips and he got 2 huge servings of fish very lightly breaded just enough to have a crispy coating and the French fries were cooked to the perfect ratio of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall we would highly recommend this little spot. The views of the River from restaurant are so romantic and every other Friday they play live Irish toe stomping tunes! Nice spot, I must confess that when looking for places to eat in small maritime towns I set my standards pretty low, so I'll admit I was instantly impressed entering the Privateer's dining room. They have a nice beer list and lunch menu to match. I had the veggie burger & my partner the haddock burger. Both were great and the service as well. I'll be heading back with some friends again soon read more

We happened upon Lane's Privateer heading south after kayaking in Lahave Bay. There happened to be a three piece band playing traditional music, which was aweosme. We had fish and chips, and mussels and frites. Both were very good. It is a good value. It is a cozy space and service was excellent. read more

The restaurant is attached to the hotel so it was convenient to eat there. We were traveling through Nova Scotia and since we were unfamiliar with the area decided to not venture too far from the hotel late at night. They often ran out of the special for the night. We eat after 7:00 so I;m guessing that s too late for Canadians. The menu was very limiting. read more

The restaurant for dinner deserves 4 stars. Very friendly staff, very willing to accomodate food allergies. Unfortunately, the night we were there they ran out of white wine and certain brands of beer. Not sure why someone didn't run to liquor store nearby for wine. Food was very good. Not excellent but good. The Inn only deserves 2 stars. We stayed one night in a Superior queen room. Small room with small bath ( we knew that and it was clean). Only one night table so I had to move chair over to put a water glass and book down. Did have a microwave and mini frig. Bed was horrible - old, hard, could feel every spring in it! At least put a mattress topper on it! No sleep. The extra blanket stank and had holes in it. Pillows not great either. If you are afraid of spiders, beware. They do not clean up balconies at all. Very dirty. Whole place needed paint touch ups and maintenance work. I don't think they have $ todo upkeep. Breakfast: Go elsewhere! Overpriced and chintzy portions. Server had no clue about food allergies and even after I told her, kept offering me food I could not eat! Server also had to deal with people checking out, work the bakery and serve with breakfast crowd. Overworked to say the least. Not as friendly as dinner wait staff. We wanted to know more about Privateer Joseph Barss who lived there but for some reason they hid his info board in a locked office. Otherwise the Inn is in a lovely locationon river. Too bad a huge fish plant is going in across street. read more

What a lovely surprise. In one week my friend & I went there twice. The first was for tea and the rhubarb pie was so outstanding that we made it a mission to return for a full Meal (lunch) 4 days later. The selection is limited for lunch but everything fresh & beautifully plated. We ate in back patio both times as it reminded me of a country inn backyard in France. Service is impeccable. Lanes is an exceptionally cozy place to enjoy a meal. The warm atmosphere and excellent customer service will keep you coming back. Not to mention to wonderful food. Do yourself a favour and have the fish and chips. Try the fish burger too. You won't be disappointed by anything on the menu. Don't forget to visit the gift shop on your way out. The service was really nice/friendly and accommodating. Clean very cozy place. Kitchen however didn't look they were even trying. Had a steak there previously which was ruined and thought would give them a benefit of a doubt this time. Ordered a cheeseburger and it looked and tasted like scorched cheese, burned buns and meet was dry to the point it was crumbling. Beer was great though. read more
