Surprisingly underwhelming and disappointing for how popular the area is. Sadly, it's one of very few places around to get food and it's just a typical grease joint. Fish is super oily and thrown into a deep fryer and fries are stale with absolutely no taste. Not much for drink options either other than pop in a can. It's really too bad because it's a great location with a nice deck and grassy area for kids to play while eating. The place does get quite busy but we couldn't figure out why since the food is quite mediocre. Would be great to see someone take this business over and step up the game. Always a surprise to find such underwhelming fish and chips spots on the east coast. read more

A classic, no frills roadside restaurant specializing in deep fried seafood of various descriptions. They have a good sized and well priced seafood platter that feeds two handily. No complaints on the temperature, taste or texture of the fish or fries. Notable is the wide selection of pop flavours available by the can (more than 20). There is also a preponderance of relishes available at the self-service condiment table, including a gherkin based one, another reminiscence of mustard pickle, and a quasi-tartar sauce with a bit of spice. I'd probably give them four stars, except the experience was tinged with disappointment from them not having homemade pie (or any pie for that matter), as boldly advertised on the roadside sign. For the sweet tooth, they do have an ice cream stand, with a dozen or so flavours. read more

Typical roadside stand boasting worlds best clams,.....NOT!! Tasted like prefrozen expired redtide rejects. The scallop burger had rubber processed cheese slice on a cold white wonderbread bun with a green ?"homemade " that looked like lowtide rock scum. The scallops weren't cooked properly as the mushy breading fell off. On the good side,the ripe primo tomato slice was delicious! By itself! Now, the onion rings were standard prefrozen boxed grade 4 cooked in subtemperature oil and very greasy. The fries were obviously pulled early from the non-timered deep fryer, and had the mealy consistency of baking powder biscuits. $30 for a clam roll, scallopburger, fries, and rings tells me this is the standard summeronly tourist cash grab that doesn't need to rely on repeat business. Worst seafood ever and I know good seafood! Highly recommended by a couple of friends, but not by me! My husband had fish tips and the batter was so thick and greasy it was grosse and the fish was so thin and small it was shameful. It was like having 5 small pieces of fish and chips ( minus the fish) and not tips at all I had clams and scallops. The portion was small which was fine because the clams tasted like the smell of manure, all off them. The coating was awful and they were chewy. The scallops were cooked a bit too long but over all ok. Fries were nothing special. Smelt fishy outside of the restaurant which made me Leary and I should have went with my gut. The worker who served was rude and I would say hates her job. We did have their ice cream and that was delicious. read more

I grew up in Nova Scotia and on the south shore at my cottage in Port Joli! Seaside (known to some locals as the Dairy Treat) has always been a must stop for ice cream on the drive from the city to the cottage for my family. I always took this place for granted while I lived back home and you don't realize how lucky you are to have a little gem like this until you move away. I was just back home for vacation, it's been 5 years, and I was dying for a good feed of clams and chips. Not the clams you get out here or anywhere else. I mean real clams...the whole clam belly, snout and all battered and fried!! My mouth is watering! I have to say I was not disappointed!! I had heard that it had been taken over by new management and heard mixed reviews from the locals but I'm one of those who takes reviews and what people say with a grain of salt. I prefer to make my own judgment, plus I'd never pass up clams and chips!!! I was really impressed to see they have added a patio and tables outside. I enjoyed relaxing on the patio and enjoying my lunch. The inside looks much the same as I remember it, it was the best feeling to visit a childhood favorite place that never disappointed me. I was also happy they had coffee flavor available for their soft serve ice cream (which is the best btw) I loved the clams so much I had to go back for lunch on my last day on our drive back into the city!! Tried Seaside, food ok, service is pick up and go or pick up at counter. No hot sauce, no seafood dip. Lady at counter needs to find a different job. My wife like the soup-good, son had lobster burger-good, daughter had poutine-good and I had seafood platter-ok. read more

We ordered the fish cakes, seafood platter, lobster sandwich, fish and chips and the seafood chowder. Everything was deep-fried except for the chowder. Everything was meh except for the lobster as part of the platter. The accompanying veggies were pretty funny and not remotely tasty. I'd pass if looking for good seafood. read more

Great spot! Grabbed the seafood platter and enjoyed every bite of the fish. The fries were crispy but mostly flavourless though. Battered fish was creamy and yummy. The battered scallops -amazing ! And the shrimp is outstanding. There was even lobster on it too! This is a big plate for one that could be shared. read more

Great little seafood shack just a few minutes off the 103 (exit 20). Their throw-down claim of Best Clams in the World is bold, and I've got to admire that. They were darn good--dredged in flour and deep-fried just until done (no rubbery necks here!)--but there are three places in Dartmouth that do it ever so slightly better (Sam's, John's Lunch, and The Wharf). That said, the bonus here is that you can just get a plate of clams without fries. Small is $13 and large is $16.50. Fish and chips was also good ($10.50 for 2 pieces, $12.50 for 3), but the batter was unevenly cooked. The fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to a juicy tenderness despite the uneven batter. The fries are forgettable. I got a side of coleslaw, which was nice but had a bit too much dressing on it for my liking. Slaw comes in many sizes ranging from $1.05 to $3.75. Other delights on the menu were a lobster sandwich for $15, a turkey burger for $5.95, a hot turkey burger for $6.35, club sandwich for $9.50 (with fries $11.75), burger for $4.25 (with fries $5.75). They have a lovely patio with not much of a view. Patio season is short here, so sit out there if it's not cold! read more

Some of the best fish and chips I've had comes from here. Stay away from their clams. They're rubbery and old. They are often busy during the summer, so plan to wait at least a little while. Good for dining outdoors on a warm summer night. Awesome ice cream. read more

This is a fun and friendly place to eat good fresh seafood. We had fish and chips, and I had an ice cream, but the menu is quite expansive. They offer everything from burgers to sandwiches, and every variety of fresh fried seafood. My husband ordered the three piece, and I ordered the two piece fish and chips, chips extra crispy the way we like them. It was a huge amount and we both agreed next time to cut it by one piece. It's very casual, and we had to mill around a few minutes after ordering to get a table, but like magic, someone always seems to be going when folks are coming. There is outside seating as well, and a cute picnic area if one prefers to be in the yard. The girls behind the counter were great, and never seemed to get flustered even when things got very busy. Only thing I've ever gotten from here are the clams (after all, they do say they have the world's best clams). The clams are definitely the best I've had, so I'd highly recommend them. The restaurant itself is a small building with maybe 10-15 small tables. They also have ice cream for doggies, so bring your furry friends with you. read more
