A classic, no frills roadside restaurant specializing in deep fried seafood of various descriptions. They have a good sized and well priced seafood platter that feeds two handily. No complaints on the temperature, taste or texture of the fish or fries. Notable is the wide selection of pop flavours available by the can (more than 20). There is also a preponderance of relishes available at the self-service condiment table, including a gherkin based one, another reminiscence of mustard pickle, and a quasi-tartar sauce with a bit of spice. I'd probably give them four stars, except the experience was tinged with disappointment from them not having homemade pie (or any pie for that matter), as boldly advertised on the roadside sign. For the sweet tooth, they do have an ice cream stand, with a dozen or so flavours.

The order counter, it's always packed.

I grew up in Nova Scotia and on the south shore at my cottage in Port Joli! Seaside (known to some locals as the Dairy Treat) has always been a must stop for ice cream on the drive from the city to the cottage for my family. I always took this place for granted while I lived back home and you don't realize how lucky you are to have a little gem like this until you move away. I was just back home for vacation, it's been 5 years, and I was dying for a good feed of clams and chips. Not the clams you get out here or anywhere else. I mean real clams...the whole clam belly, snout and all battered and fried!! My mouth is watering! I have to say I was not disappointed!! I had heard that it had been taken over by new management and heard mixed reviews from the locals but I'm one of those who takes reviews and what people say with a grain of salt. I prefer to make my own judgment, plus I'd never pass up clams and chips!!! I was really impressed to see they have added a patio and tables outside. I enjoyed relaxing on the patio and enjoying my lunch. The inside looks much the same as I remember it, it was the best feeling to visit a childhood favorite place that never disappointed me. I was also happy they had coffee flavor available for their soft serve ice cream (which is the best btw) I loved the clams so much I had to go back for lunch on my last day on our drive back into the city!! I couldn't leave Nova Scotia without indulging again...god knows I can't get clams like that back here. Do you deliver?

The fish platter has it all!

Fish and chips were tasteless. Very salty fries. Will not be returning. Koodos for the soft chocolate ice cream though.

We had thick fresh fried cod fish and chips, and fried clams. Perfectly done, great spot!

When my wife and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon, I was in luck because the scallops and fish combo was one of the daily specials, clocking in at just $21! My other half, not being a big seafood person, opted for a cheeseburger. Having arrived well after the main lunch crowd, we had our food in quick order and ate indoors, taking a break in their AC. My plate of brown, deep-fried goodness wasn't exactly a poster child for the Canada Food Guide, but it sure was good! The scallops had a light dusting of breading before hitting the fryer, and they were a perfect doneness - not too soft, and not at all rubbery. Being minimally adorned as they were, the sweetness of the scallops took its rightful spot at centre stage. The fish portion of the plate was comprised of three small filets of haddock, with a light breading on the exterior. I do prefer a crisp, airy beer batter, but the quality of the fish stole the show, as it flaked easily in solid chunks, but wasn't mushy or shredding to tiny bits. It was one of those times where the fish was so good that I only used the tartar sauce for my fries. Said fries were the standard, from-frozen fries that I think of as "diner fries", but they were good and crisp on the outside, with fluffy interiors, so they were about as good as they can be. On the upside, the fries acted as a delivery mechanism for one of the best tartar sauces I've ever had! Heavy on the minced pickle chunks, the tartar sauce had a sweetness to it that reminded me of mustard pickles (in the best possible way). When a place does a simple thing like this so well, it really make all the others that just do packets of Kraft look even worse. Although far from being the star of the show, my wife's cheeseburger was a solid, diner-style burger. Carla's was just what I was looking for while in Digby - down home style seafood that's well-executed without pretension.

I tried the apricots chicken rapure- she said it was a French dish, basically mashed potatoes around a few chucks of chicken and then deep fried. I wasn't impressed. My husband got the wings. They were delicious. Some friends got the seafood platter. It also was delicious. The onion rings were delicious.

Service was excellent, professional and quick. Maybe too quick, our appetizers arrived before our drinks. The menu is innovative but still traditional. Fish and Chips, mussels, oysters, chowder along with burgers and sandwiches, including a lobster roll on a locally made croissant. But also Pad Thai and a Bulgogi Rice Bowl. All of our dishes were wonderful. But what most impressed me is the extensive gluten free menu, complete with a fryer and gf batter for the fish & chips and fish tacos.

Fortunately, the owner of our Inn told us that The Naked Oyster recently opened and is a sister restaurant to Rebecca's. What a beautiful experience it was! It was very busy but there are several places to sit comfortably outside. The Adirondack chairs were very nice, with a view of Mahone Harbor. After a bit of a wait, we were seated. The service was excellent. I can't imagine I'll ever experience a more delicious chowder than their Captain's Chowder, a creamy clam broth with generous portions of scallops, mussels and haddock. We also had a half dozen local oysters that were perfect. High marks for the Caesar Salad too. I would put this on the "can't miss" list for the area.
