Seafood chowder
Caroline M.

O.M.G. the best seafood chowder of my life!!! Took a little while but when it can out she explained that they make it on the spot: your chowder will not be siting around all day, it will be made just for you. The fish was fresh, the potatoes perfecty cooked and the broth so delicious. Home made food served with a smile at a reasonable price. Thank you so much. :)

Have only eaten there once, however it was a great experience. Ordered "The Galley Burger" with fries. Awesome burger, juicy, well cooked, great taste and seasoning. The fries were just as good, hand cut and seasoned very well. Highly recommend this locally owned business. Can't wait for another visit and another great meal.

Haddock, scallops and fries

So we were walking around downtown area of Shelburne and decided to grab supper at this establishment. It has a real "down home" feel, and is obviously a favorite among the locals. The staff was very friendly. Once we sat down and looked over the menu, it was clearly visible that it is mostly a burger joint as it dedicates a whole side of the menu to them. We had been travelling around eating seafood and burgers leading up to now, and were kind of in the mood for something different and decided to check out another place. The waitress told us about some other items, etc., and we felt horrible for leaving as it was nothing negative, just selection. Once we were outside and started walking, our guilt got the best of us, and figured one more burger wouldn't hurt. As we walked back into the establishment, it was quite apparent that we were being discussed as it is a small dining room, etc., so that was awkward... understandable, but still awkward. We decided on the haddock, scallops and fries, and a donair burger (that wasn't on the menu yet) and a side poutine. The burger was okay, the meat patty was a little dry, and if I was making it, I would have put donair sauce on the top and bottom bun to give it an even flavor consistency and help with the dryness. The fish entrée was a bit of a miss. Although we had assumed it would have been a filet of deep fried haddock and scallops, it seemed to be more of frozen pre-battered haddock bits and pre-battered scallops. Not really what was expected, however, the scallops (when the batter was removed) were cooked nicely. The establishment does a lot of take out, which was very apparent as may customers came to pick up orders while we were there. I also, love the idea that the beverages were canned (probably due to the take out business), not watered down fountain pop, and allows for greater variety. Over all, seems to be a great locally owned establishment with friendly/knowledgeable staff. Wish them the best of luck!

My husband and I had dinner here with some family. Service was courteous but I can't say that my…read moremain was all that great. The dessert that I shared with my husband was good though. I had the Chicken Souvlaki ($18.99). It came with white rice, pita bread, salad, and tzatziki. The chicken was so dry and tough. It tasted like it was reheated multiple times over. I was so disappointed. At least it was lean breast meat and not fatty nor gristley. Dipping it in the tzatziki did help. The tzatziki was creamy and quite good. The rice, like the chicken, was also dry, and it had clumpy bits. It was also just plain white rice. I was expecting a pilaf. The salad was great though. It was a real spring mix of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes and feta cheese. Vegetables were fresh. The only thing is I asked for the dressing on the side and the salad came already dressed. It had a bit too much dressing for my liking, but wasn't too excessive. I noticed that my husband's uncle, the host of our dinner, also ordered the Chicken Souvlaki, and his plate had the salad dressing on the side (he did not request the dressing on the side). I think the server gave him my plate, and gave me his plate. He had already started eating, and the dressing on my salad wasn't excessive, plus I didn't want to have to wait for them to remake the salad, so I didn't say anything and just ate the plate that was given to me. My husband's uncle said that he was disappointed with the Chicken Souvlaki that day as the meat was dry and they "usually do better." He's a regular, so I guess they were having a bad night in the kitchen. My husband had one of the daily specials, which was a shrimp carbonara. He said it was very good. There were some in our party who had the fish and chips and they thought it was excellent. Although one person had the Cajun Haddock, which was another daily special, and thought it was tough and overcooked, but she loved the mashed potatoes. So it looks like your mileage may vary depending on what you order. My husband and I shared the Reese's Peanut Butter cake and it was rich, decadent and delicious. Others who had the homemade cheesecake with blueberry sauce loved it and one person even said it was one of the best cheesecakes he's ever had. We were a large group of 13 and our server did a great job (with the exception of swapping the "dressing on the side" Chicken Souvlaki and the "pre-dressed salad" Chicken Souvlaki). He was super friendly and welcoming. He handled our group on his own, so I can forgive the mistake. The restaurant has a bowling alley in it, as well as slot machines. They also had dart boards. It's the kind of bar/pub I would expect in a small town. There is free parking in their lot, but you can also park down by the Tourist Bureau for free, which is what we did. It's a short walk from there. There are not too many dining options in Liverpool, NS, and my husband's uncle picked this place because they could accommodate our large group and would be able to serve us all rather quickly. I wasn't thrilled with my main course, but it seems like the kitchen is usually better, or so I've been told. I might have caught them on a bad night, or they aren't used to large groups. So I guess your mileage may vary.

Our first visit here really missed the mark. We've been looking forward to eating here for some…read moretime so we invited the new neighbours for dinner before a show, but we definitely won't be back. We arrived before the supper rush and while it was busy, the place was not full by any means with multiple empty tables. We sat up in 'The Boat' which is right next to the bar which is an awkward step up but we weren't offered one of the empty tables so we figured it out even though it wasn't conducive to having a conversation with two other people. The server who gave us menus was friendly but failed to bother to bring any water the entire time we sat there (nearly an hour). The first round of drinks showed up fairly promptly and she took our food order right after that. We opted not to get appetizers because we didn't want to eat too much before our show, but had we known how long we'd have to wait, we would have gotten something. We couldn't even order something to share between the four of us because 'The Boat' is two separate tables. We chatted as we waited for our drinks that we finished and waited some more for someone to bring food. After the last drinks were empty for at least 10 minutes, our server came back to ask if we wanted another round. Seeing as we didn't have food yet (we'd already been waiting 30 minutes), I opted out while the three others ordered one. At this point, I wasn't willing to spend more money for poor service and a long wait. We watched as a large group that clearly arrived long before us, finally got their food after 35 minutes of us having put in our order. A couple across from us showed up at least 20 minutes after us, got drinks, food and the bill before we were even offered a second drink or told about where our food was. During the time, we watched as other patrons came in, were served their food and left before our food even arrived. After about 40 minutes, our server came around and said 'it shouldn't be much longer, we're training kitchen staff so it's taking a little longer'. Not our problem, and clearly not true seeing as so many others who arrived after us were getting their food. The entire time we were waiting, servers stood around the register talking and not really checking on tables. By this point, people kept rolling in, the place got busy and we still didn't have our food 45 minutes after ordering. When our orders finally showed up after 53 minutes of being placed, mine wasn't what I ordered. I asked for a pan fried fish burger and got pan fried fish. The server was adamant that's what I ordered and proceeded to tell me that 'the only difference is the bun and veggies, otherwise it's the same fish'. I was quite surprised at the comment rather than offering to make it right. Given we had a waited nearly an hour for our food by this point, I sucked it up and just ate what I got. Service here is definitely lacking and it's clear staff doesn't have the skills required to deal with people. While the food was alright, the sides looked like they were scraped off of other peoples' plates and just thrown onto ours. No one bothered to check on us or apologize. When the bill arrived, I noticed $5.50 taken off and no explanation. I begrudgingly paid the nearly $70 bill for the two of us and decided we wouldn't be back again!

The vibe was very cool, place was packed with lots of very friendly locals and tourists, everyone chatty, super fun. Super friendly staff, Michelle was lovely and had excellent recommendations for both food and drink. Another meal
