Common dishes were changed up a bit and elevated, but remained true to the original. We tried the deep fried meatloaf with two sides: mashed potatoes and a salad with homemade ranch dressing. The dressing had a hint of dill and was thicker than most ranch dressings I have tried in the past. But it was very good. The meatloaf batter was crunchy on the outside and the meatloaf was moist and flavorful on the inside. The others ordered the chicken fingers with homemade white cream gravy (yum). The same batter as the meatloaf and the chicken was hot and moist. One person got the Croque Madame (cheese, ham topped with a fried egg) - her favorite. And stop the press for the Banana Pudding Fried Pie ... it is like a banana cream pie on steroids! Get one to share with your dining mates, you will not regret it!

And the coffee was AMAZING. Not overly sweet, but also not super bitter, which is honestly hard for me to find. I'd definitely come back just for the food and coffee! The biggest issue we experienced was with the system for getting food and drinks to the right people. They were calling everything out by the item instead of using names or another system. Once it got busy, it became really difficult to tell whose food or drink belonged to whom, especially since so many people order the same things. At one point, someone took my drink, realized it wasn't theirs, and handed it to someone else, who then eventually handed it to us after realizing it wasn't theirs either. The drinks didn't come with a lid. It was basically passed around the restaurant before it made its way back to us. We also finished our entire food order before my mom's drink ever came out. That said, the staff were all very sweet! They seemed more stressed and overwhelmed than anything, and I really think this is just a matter of finding a better system as they get busier. Maybe calling orders by name or order number instead of just announcing what the item is? There didn't seem to be a clear way to keep track of who ordered first. They just recently opened, so I definitely expect these little kinks to get worked out with time. I'd absolutely recommend giving them a try! I've been to many, many coffee shops through my early adult years, but the first I started going to…read moreon a frequent basis was The Foundry, located right off the downtown square of Tyler, sitting on the first floor just beneath Bethel Bible Church. Though The Foundry is ultimately connected to Bethel as their nonprofit, and many Bethel members spend time there, it misses the mark of being what feels like a "Christian coffee shop". Instead feels like a coffee shop that is driven by God, which is a very important difference to make. The Foundry is welcoming to all and is a place of peace for all. Their space is quite large, with plenty of tables of all sizes in the back, bar seating, and more. There is an outside coffee garden space that is peaceful if you happen to be around during the three weeks where Texas weather is bearable. There are also a few tables in front of the shop. There's a room that always displays local artists' work. The Foundry roasts all their own beans under Porch Culture. The team behind Porch Culture seems to have a genuine care and passion for coffee roasting, which they obviously benefits from. Certain days in the shop, you can see them roasting and experimenting in the back. I, of course, had to leave with a bag of beans to take back to Austin with me. Recently, upon my trip back home, I had a vanilla latte of theirs, which was great, plus a cinnamon roll, which was delectable. They can get pretty busy on a Sunday before a Bethel service starts, but their team usually seems on top of it most times I visit and are all very friendly and talkative. I missed The Foundry. From my time in high school when I'd go to study, or through college breaks where I used it to get out of the house and work on side projects, it was a great place to hide out, and it still is as good as I remember.
