While I was setting up Christmas decorations, I observed that one of the bushes has begun to regrow, which seems to be regarded as a miracle since the root ball was supposedly removed! Additionally, I noticed that a considerable portion of the newly installed concrete slab is distinctly discolored due to inconsistent or improper mixing. Unfortunately it seems I will have to resolve this through our court system.

The most recent project was to replace existing grass from one side of my yard and replace with gravel and step stones. None of the projects were simple one day projects. In most cases the jobs were 2-3 days of hard laborious work for the workers. Speaking of the workers. Pete Facundo is the director of the Bioscapes projects. Pete has always been honest, patient and a professional to work with. His employees are well trained and skillful in the performance of their work. A complete remodel with 2 retaining walls, new irrigation, sod, zero-scaping, a flagstone patio, hot tub, rebuilt deck, pergola, kitchenette, bar top, and electrical. Andy did an excellent job managing the project, paying attention to detail, and staying as close to schedule as possible. He gave us sufficient time after the job was complete to test the final product, make fixes, etc., before taking full payment. He went above and beyond to make sure to stay within budget and give us a beautiful final product. Before going with Andy we got quotes from 2 other landscapers. Rockview Landscaping's quote was in the middle. We didn't go with the cheapest option because Andy felt more trustworthy and willing to stay close to our vision. Additionally, the cheapest quote came from a larger national landscaping firm. It felt impersonal. We wanted to help a local business instead. The pictures speak for themselves. We included some before pictures as well so you can see how awful our backyard used to be, and how complete the remodel is. The slope in our backyard was very steep, making the lawn space completely unusable. The deck was rotting and painted over with an ugly green color. We cannot believe how much flat lawn space we have now, and the patio, hot tub, deck layout is beautiful and functional.

Shawn took time to fully understand what our vision was for our new patio. In addition he made some additional great subtle suggestions that complimented our vision. He also addressed and considered some of our permeability concerns. He provided a layout rendition drawing of how it would look and followed up with a competitive quote. What was really pleasing and refreshing was that during the build, Shawn stopped by several times every week and monitored progress. If we were not at home he communicated by phone how things were going. Blazek provided licensed subcontractors to relocate irrigation pipes and heads, lay and connect the gas supply pipe to the outdoor grill and suggested and installed 'Color Edison' lights which allow you to alternate color through a Bluetooth connection. These lights were awesome and something we had not considered. It was all a one shop deal! If we consider any additional landscaping around our house we will definitely be consulting with Blazek.

We interviewed 3 landscape designers before finally selecting Robert Leeper Landscapes to build a…read morelandscape design for us. Robert put together a very comprehensive (multi-phase) plan for our very large and barren yard for a very affordable price (I couldn't believe some of the high cost estimates other landscape designers came up with). I asked him for 3 references for implementing the work. The references checked out, and we were very excited to embark on the project with Robert & OJ (his crew foreman). We changed a few of the items on the landscape design during the design phase, and Robert was very willing to work with us on that. He 'got' what we wanted in the yard very quickly (1000 photos from Sunset Magazine certainly helped) and built the plan to accomodate our needs. My only beef was that it definitely took longer than the original plan mostly because the stonework ended up eating a lot of time. One other issue was that while they have built many other firepits, they had never done a gas one before. I had to do some additional last minute leg work with the gas company to get gas to my firepit. Robert tries very hard to stay within the budget. We needed to add an extra week to the project in order to finalize some of the stonework we had installed. I have neighbors stop me and compliment me on the design. We love showing it off and taking people behind the fence to see the really fun stuff (the zen fountain, fire pit, and huge stone 'fence' around a 100 year old Oak tree). We always get lots of oooowwss and aaaahhhhhs on our modern xeriscape yard. (note to all buyers who think a crushed granite yard is low maintance...not! you will still be pulling weeds out of the crushed granite). Robert's design skills are top notch! And the team is very professional. They show up on time and get the work done. I will be hiring them again for the next phase of implementation (and design!).

For the past two years, we've had nasty flash floods that have left us collectively about $30,000…read morein debt, even with flood insurance. The house is built on a hill, and when a heavy rain hits us after a dry spell, bad things happen. When the last payout finally came in, we'd planned to earmark a big chunk for fixing the drainage once and for all. Enter Keep Austin Landscaped. Even though our house is small and they usually don't do such small jobs, they came up with a great plan to reroute the water from uphill and guide it around our house to prevent flooding. Initially they suggested an inexpensive galvanized wire and rock wall to keep the water from flowing into our house, but later decided that a better, solid concrete retaining wall would do the job better - - for just the same price. And then, of course, COVID happened. Nevertheless, the KAL team was still ready to work with us as long as we gave the workers their distance, which of course was only fair. I really appreciated them coming out and risking getting sick to do that work, especially when we were really scared that any time now we might flood again. Our uphill neighbors initially agreed to allow us to install a French drain on their property to allow water to drain into the alley behind our houses instead of into our house, but then reneged for reasons we still don't understand. We offered to adjust planning to take any specific concerns into account or seek mediation, but they insisted that we not do anything on their side of the hill. Of course it's difficult to route water away from a house down hill if you can't do anything before the water gets there! The nice folks at KAL tried several times to speak to my neighbors in both English and Spanish on our behalf, and in the end our neighbors allowed them to complete the plan by extending gravel drainage along the shared fence. We've just had the first heavy rain after a dry spell since they've been out here, and not a hint of flooding. Working with them has been an absolute joy, and we heartily recommend them for anyone with a landscaping or drainage issue.
