Mosaic was a great find and recommended to me by my contractor. I checked it out on Yelp first and…read moredue to the great reviews, decided to try it out myself. I've done a bathroom remodel before without the help of anyone at Mosaic before this one and now after getting the help of a design professional I'd never want to do without it again! My appointment with Cameron went very well. We definitely needed the full 1.5 hours to go over my preferences, look at images I brought in and pick out tile and then take down specs for estimates. Cameron's tile suggestions seemed be very inline with my own preferences. Plus, I was able to walk around and pick out many attractive tile choices to choose from. Mosaic also has a very large building with quite a few model upscale bathrooms set up to walk around and take a look at to help spark design ideas. Later the same day as my tile consultation, Cameron emailed me her very detailed and accurate architectural drawings of my bathroom showing everything I described to her for the remodel including the tiles, vanity, tub, etc. and contacted my general contractor directly as well. I was very impressed and pleased--considering this was all a free service to customers! I was also able to take home my tile samples to look it all over later in my house. The tile was not cheap of course. I have a relatively small bathroom in my townhouse but it still amounted to well over $2k worth of tile! I know I have expensive tastes but I was hoping my contractor would be able to get me more of a discount! Well, I may have to scale back the amount of tile I'm using and/or hold off on the project to save up more meanwhile but I know exactly what tile I want to go with now!

I had seen some stuff online via Ferguson's website, but I wanted to actually chat with a person in real life about my proposed project so in that way I could walk through what I was looking for and wanted. We worked with Darin who was fantastic btw! My husband and I sort of went through with what I was looking for which included plumbing fixatures for two bathrooms and a chandelier for our foyer. He was great gave us different options at different price points also he helped figure out what I was trying to explain (I told him I don't know all of the technical names of the things, but he was able to decipher) and help us think through what we needed. Darin super knowledgeable! Now a few other points of advice if you are a first timer, pictures of what you want to do helpful even if they are inspo photos, if you've got space measurements even better. Also, if you are thinking of changing out plumbing perhaps having your preferred plumber come out to give you an idea of materials required for your project (I opted to do it in reverse).

Truth is you can buy everything Ferguson carries from Home Depot online--including the same Amerock pulls--get a military discount, and return items in-store WITHOUT paying shipping fees. From now on, I'd only step into Ferguson for ideas and then purchase at Home Depot. HOME DEPOT WINS!

So, when we had a water…read moreleak resulting in moderate water damage to 1/4 of the basement and some insurance proceeds, we decided to contact CK&B to revisit the basement layout and modernize things a bit. Primary emphasis was a layout that could evolve over time and recapturing some floorspace. Start to finish was 3-4 weeks. This included tearing out popcorn ceiling, wiring in ~11 new recessed lights, new flooring, new kitchenette, small updates to a guest bathroom, painting all the things (including a chalkboard 1/3 wall) and a redesigned fascia for our fireplace. It also included a "secret room" for the kiddo that Quinn took on as a personal project, as we've been juggling complex medical issues for a few years. Needless to say that resulted in a lot of smiles and it has been getting a ton of use. The plywood in the secret room is 3/4" and we plan to add some rock climbing grips to it in the future. Pearl and Monica were easy to communicate with and any issues (ex: some painting needed to be revisited) were handled promptly. They were very flexible with pricing and really went out of their way to make this work for us. I'm deeply appreciative of the work they did for our child and the flexibility they demonstrated with some of my last-minute design tweaks. This is an easy recommend from me.

But once we scheduled the appointment with CKB, lots of other projects popped up with our old, new house: knocking pipes when the hot water is on, an old fireplace mantle with water damage behind it, a wall-mounted tv that the previous owners stuck right into flammable insulation. But it didn't matter! Quinn, Cherie, and Carlos completed our whole list within ONE WEEK and within our budget. The team painted everything from ceilings to baseboards and covered up the previous yellow and navy blue paint! They completely replaced the damaged drywall behind our brick fireplace and installed a new electrical outlet for the wall mounted tv, in addition to adding fireproof insulation! And they fixed our knocking pipes by cutting into our walls and spray foaming around the culprits. Totally professional and on time every day. It was great! Can't wait to have them back to renovate our old bathrooms.

My coworker recommended USA Cabinet Store based on his recent kitchen remodel experience, so we stopped by one evening. Tarik introduced us to one of his kitchen designers, Miyuki Carter (pronounced "Me-YOU-Key"), and we set up an in-home consultation. Miyuki helped us overcome obstacles by endorsing our tentative ideas and incorporating them into her vision for our kitchen. For example, I wanted to remove the pantry and hall coat closet to open up the kitchen, but thought it would be too expensive. My wife wanted to remove a knee wall in an adjoining room. There was no sales pitch. Miyuki seemed to care as much about the outcome as we did and her thoughts echoed are own. Her final 3D design was beautiful. We chose the highly rated Fabuwood brand of cabinetry. While they aren't custom, they are an excellent value. They use quality Blum hinges, wood construction, and they're manufactured locally. I initially thought we would buy full custom cabinetry to get access to high-end glazes and custom widths; however, it made more sense to spend additional money on more visible things like demolition/construction, a fancy hood, cabinet hardware, countertops and backsplash. The USA Cabinet Store installation team that came to our house was very good. While they primarily spoke Spanish, we were able to communicate effectively. The lead guy was meticulous when it came to carpentry and I learned that he is actually a master craftsman from Venezuala who came here for economic reasons. He showed me photos of his family's shop back home along with some of the work he has done and he truly is an artist. One side note: the Corona Virus Pandemic hit the week they started construction, but the guys brought masks and worked through it. It's difficult to capture all that transpired and condense it into a single review. For couples like us who don't really have "extra" money lying around, a kitchen remodel is stressful. We spent nearly 10% of the value of our home on a single room, we each had different priorities, and our decisions needed to make us happy for several years while also adding value to our home in case we needed to move. Miyuki Carter and the USA Cabinet Store patiently guided us through that difficult process and helped us realize our dream. I highly recommend using them for your next kitchen or bath remodel. ************* 8/12/2020 Update: We identified a few items that needed adjustment under warranty, Tarik arranged a time for his team to come out and make the adjustments, and all is still perfect nearly 4 months later. *Comment on communication* We have worked with a few contractors over the last couple of years and we've learned to roll with schedule changes and less than stellar communication. With USA Cabinets, whenever we had a concern we'd call Miyuki or Tarik and they would sort it out. We also learned that regular communication with the installation team kept us informed and prevented a lot of worry. I believe my ignorance of the complexity of the project led to some unrealistic expectations at the beginning, but those were quickly sorted out and we are truly happy with the end result.

Angelo, one of their contractors, provided a very disappointing experience; his crew was highly unprofessional, unresponsive to phone calls and emails, and disrespectful in my residence. Frankly, working with her again is a no-brainer for us and we sing her praises to all of our friends and neighbors now. If you've done any sort of home renovations you've probably had good contractors and bad. On our most recent 1600sf addition we had a lot of mediocre work from our GC and his subs and they required LOTS of oversight. Heather's team, by contrast, gave us white glove service at a price that was a true bargain for the quality of work delivered. She and her team gave us such good value that we're looking around our house for other things to have them build (built-in buffet for dining room, wine cabinets, etc).
