I was looking for not too sweat cakes and found this place on yelp. They were cute cake shop and taste good ! When I visited just before they close, they did not have much cake left. I almost gave up on finding this place because my iPhone's GPS was going all kinds of crazy. It kept telling me to make u-turns and saying I was there, when in reality I was nowhere close. Sad part? This place is really easy to find! It's on the intersection of Dundee and Milwaukee. You pass Fresh Farms and it's right there in the Riverside Plaza. I don't understand why my iPhone was acting up.... However, I was determined to finally give this place a try after bookmarking it few days before and didn't give up easily. I mainly came here for the MACARONS. ( FYI there is a huge difference between MACARONS and MACAROONS. Both are made from egg whites and sugar, but macarons contain finely ground almonds, while macaroons are made with shredded coconut. )They only had three macaron flavors: coffee, rose and raspberry. I was really looking forward to pistachio but they didn't have it. Out of the three, the rose one was the winner! Absolutely delicious! Long story short - mediocre desserts and kind a shady/aggressive feel from the salesperson. Long story - lady had some aggressive sales pushed for desserts. I only had my card and did not see a sign for a minimum purchase, got what I wanted and when asked what else I was looking for -I mentioned that I was trying to get my order over $8 because I don't like to use my card for less than that (my personal policy). Keep in mind during this whole process, lady had some aggressive sales tactics. All of a sudden, counter lady told me they had a $10 min for cards with no sign visible. Combined with her aggressive sales tactics, I was skeptical such a policy exists. The desserts were lack luster and it honestly felt like that lady made up that policy on the spot because there was no sign. I overbought crappy desserts from a shady salesman. I don't mind places having minimums, just put up a sign because my interaction with the counter lady felt shady. read more

My family gets their cakes from here for EVERY family event: Birthday, name day, anniversary, get togethers, family from out of town, graduation, congratulations, etc. We love their cakes because they're not too sweet! We ordered a beach-themed wedding reception cake and dessert table from Lana's. Lana did an excellent job with the cake, matched our wedding colors beautifully, and topped it off with a really well-done white chocolate topper that looked like coral. We still don't know how she managed to make it look like coral, but it was completely edible and tasted great! The cake was absolutely delicious. Three tiers of delicious with two different flavors. People came back for seconds, and there wasn't a single pastry left on the dessert table at the end of the night. One tip: plan on taking a little extra time for a cake tasting. We had a lot of trouble deciding on flavors for our cake because we (quite literally) liked all 7 types of cake we tried. I finally kindly said, is there someone who can help me (I will be honest and say that I wanted to have an attitude, but two little girls... didn't want to be a bad role model). She came over immediately, no apology, and asked "what would you like". I got a vast array of about 30 desserts as it was for my husbands coworkers. My husband said they didn't like their stuff and they were asking who made it. They were really expensive to not have good things. Disappointed. I ordered a buche noel a month in advance and asked for praline filling instead of the customary coffee praline filling. Even if you dont have a sweet tooth, this place will have you salivating within a minute. We have tried probably most of the regularly sold cakes. I love the red currant and the chocolate one (the square one). Absolutely delish! Everything is freshly made and decorated with flowers and fruits. They also have macaroons and seasonal pastries. Im taking a star off because of their tiramisu. Tiramisu is my favorite dessert, but it was a disappointment here. Its sold in little cups and it was so dense and not light and fluffy. I can't think of any bakery that can top Lana's, I have never been less than dazzled! They have a sign that says 'Nothing Fat-Free'. Well, let me in! Every treat is a little work of art, and as tasty as they are pretty. I honestly don't know all the names of the items because they don't label anything. But if you go in and say 'I want one of everything', you will be happy with everything, it's just that good! Anything that has a cream in it is heavenly, I don't know how they make it, it's supernaturally smooth and rich! I am a big pistachio fan, anything they make pistachio flavored is amazing. I have yet to order anything big, I usually just get a whole box of small items. A friend of mind said she got a huge cake from them for only $100 and it was amazing, and cheaper than other bakeries in the area. She says people were fighting over who got to take extra home with them! One employee there told me a funny story. He says that once in awhile, he will take leftover treats to his other job. Everyone will admire the pastries, but will be afraid to touch them because they are too nice. Once he tells everyone the treats are for anyone to eat, they are all gone in minutes, lol!
