Um yum!!! Go here if you are in the C-Ville area! The pizza was amazing, and i now firmly believe that every pizza place needs to give you scissors to cut your pizza! Genius! The meatball appetizer was so good too! Service was spot on with very friendly staff. The restaurant is small so either prepared to wait or get there close to opening. The food is worth it.

We stopped into Lampo last night after the football game - (party of 5: my bestie, teenage daughter, & 2 11 year-olds). The pizza itself was delicious - fresh dough, very flavorful, perfectly cooked in the brick oven. That said, the service really left something to be desired. From the moment we walked in, our server seemed irritated toward us was - very unwelcoming, unaccommodating, even asking the 11-year-olds to wait outside after having just told us that the outside was closed for service. I understand it was the end of the night, but it was impossible not to notice when she greeted another group after us in a much warmer, more accommodating way. Another big drawback: there were no accommodations for the vegan in our party. We asked if it was possible to add mushrooms or even a different vegetable to a plain tomato pizza (literally the only topping), but there wasn't any flexibility or willingness to help make that happen. Overall, the food delivered, but the experience felt uneven and I hope there's some staff training in the future so that all customers and clientele will feel welcome. I love local faves... and I'm Charlottesville regular and love sending other alum and friends to restaurants with delicious food and a great vibe. Unfortunately Lampo fell short and has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Lampo makes solid, fresh pizza. I actually love ordering from their to-go location (Lampo2Go) which is a bit closer to my house than their restaurant. Their special hot honey pepperoni pizza was amazing, and I highly recommend! I only ordered takeout, but service was super fast. Restaurant looked cozy inside with a semi-open kitchen where you can see them make the pizza right in front of you!

Beautiful little intimate spot. Great for date night. Honestly some of the best pizza we've had south of the Mason/ Dixon lol! Shared the brussel sprout salad and fungi pizza. Solid cocktails as well.

This place does not take reservations and had an outdoor greeter (thankfully it is not usually too cold around here). While I arrived around opening, getting in was not a speedy process, and indeed it was a half hour past opening before I finally had a pizza (that spends ninety seconds in the oven), which matters because I was hungry from my hike. However, an excellent shredded kale appetizer sated my hunger, and the quality was there. A DOC margherita, with imported buffalo mozzarella, was only a small increase in price from the basic one, and buffalo mozzarella is hard to find. The crust had a fine note of char, and was easily cut with their fancy pizza scissors. This menu included a few other intriguing options and they do offer pizzas without cheese for those in need, but I was not disappointed that I picked the standard by which Neapolitan pizzas are judged, and you'd go a long way before you find another such pizza at this level of quality.

We've ordered delivery and ate bar side at Lampo and both times have been very impressed. The bar tender made some delicious drinks for us and the food came out quickly and perfectly done. Arriving 30mins after opening on a winter Friday night, it was already 100% seated with standing room in the back. Definitely get there early, especially with a large crowd. The specials, including my the salad, sounded really good. We did order it along with bread and never got them so that will have to be on a future visit. Regardless, really good quality food and a cool atmosphere.

Pizza at Lampo is SO. FREAKIN. GOOD. Best pizza I've had in a while!! We didn't have reservations but luckily we grabbed the last 2 seats in the small dining room. I do not recommend coming with a large group. There is plenty of seating outside but we got there on a 92° day so we needed AC!! Service was great and friendly. Of in Charlottesville again I will absolutely go back or get take out!!

We had a fantastic dinner at Lampo! We were visiting Charlottesville for the weekend and heard from multiple friends that we needed to check out this cozy little pizza spot - it absolutely didn't disappoint. The staff are very friendly (our waitress gave us some great recommendations for other spots to eat and explore), and the vibe is warm and inviting. Food-wise, we started with a small meat & cheese board (loved their homemade bread on that!) and the meatballs in pomodoro sauce (super flavorful and juicy), then we split the DOC Margherita pizza, which was absolutely perfect (chewy crust, deep flavor, extremely fresh, and fun to cut with pizza scissors). We ended with the chocolate pudding, which was surprisingly elevated and unique - the pudding was rich and had a sweet cream mixed in to tone it down a bit, then it was topped with hazelnuts and crunchy caramelized sugar... incredible. Would absolutely recommend Lampo to anyone who loves Neapolitan pizza!

Lampo is one of our favorite pizza spots in town. It's constantly busy, so get there before opening to wait in line for a table if you want to eat first thing. Otherwise, put your name in and head over to Bar Baleno next door for a cocktail prior. There isn't a ton of seating, but they've done a nice job of using the space they have. It's a very intimate setting; going with large groups might be a challenge, but they'll make it work! Their cocktails are delightful, pizza is tasty and perfectly Neapolitan style. We have enjoyed their specials, salads, and meatballs too. Everyone is quite friendly and welcoming. They've got the perfect package!

I cannot emphasize how good Lampo is. I showed up 15 minutes before they opened and the line was already starting up, so I knew I was in for some great food! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in picking out what we wanted from the menu, and the food came wickedly fast. The brussels sprouts are a can't miss. The dressing is delicious and zesty, and the hazelnuts are the perfect complement. And of course, you can't go wrong simply dumping a pile of freshly grated parmesan on anything. The main event of course is the pizza. We tried two: the Margherita D.O.C. and the Prosciutto. The difference between the classic and the D.O.C. is in the cheese, the classic is the house mozzarella and the D.O.C. is imported straight from Italy. I am sure both are amazing, but the D.O.C. did have an unbeatable creamy and buttery texture that was perfect on the pizza. The Prosciutto was an incredible bite. The meyer lemon perfectly complemented the arugula and other ingredients. The staff brought over fresh parm and red pepper flakes as well, and that added a great kick. And if you go here, do NOT miss the ricotta donuts. They are perfectly soft inside, with a delicious crunch. They're also served with meyer lemon, and that squeeze cuts through the richness to create a perfect bite. I swear, everything I ate here was better than the last. I cannot wait to return, and in the meantime I have ordered from their takeout a few times!

We just had the most amazing experience here at Lampo. The food was delicious with incredible service. Zac was our server he did not miss a beat. Was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food. We ordered a little of everything thinking we could take back home what ever we don't finish, but that did not happen, on the contrary we ordered more food it was that good. 10/10

Brussels Sprouts

Best pizza I've ever had. Salads were amazing. The drinks were delicious. We had a great time and left feeling that we'd had a very special meal.

The love of my life! I was heartbroken when the restaurant closed for renovations but I welcome it back with open arms. For appetizers, I recommend the meatballs AND the Brussels sprouts salad. The melted cheese on the meatballs melts my heart. The crisp salad is the perfect palate cleaner before the pizzas arrive. The Margherita DOC is everything I want and more. The fungi is also a solid choice and I also peruse the specials menu for a fun change of pace. I love Lampo's crust because it's thin and yet so chewy. I sneak the crust with charred bits for extra flavor. Pro tip: save the leftover meatball sauce and dip the crust in it. Lastly, do not skip on the dessert. The chocolate pudding is so dreamy... I mean creamy. I love the sweet and crunchy candy bits that compliment the rich and slightly bitter chocolate. Truly the perfect finish to the best meal in Charlottesville.

Good for children?

I think it depends on the child. The interior is small with tables that are close together. The general noise level is quiet-to-average volume conversation. The patio is probably better for kid friendly seating. It has a fairly adult menu in terms… Read more

What a lovely and charming restaurant! Dined this evening with my family during our stay in…read moreCharlottesville and everything was really great. We began with very well crafted cocktails and I had the most delightful mocktail, an Unlit Gimlet; so bright and fresh and the pink peppercorn garnish was the perfect counter to the sweet. Food from beginning to end was fabulous. Servings sizes were filling and just right and not overly huge. So enjoyed our pastas from the Bolognese, the Carbonara, the Raucci, and the Primaverili (a perfect bite of spring green). Of the four, our table's favorite was the capellini gamberi Raucci but I wouldn't hesitate to order any of our selections. Sides of roasted fennel with oranges (the best fennel I've had) and the cauliflower were beautifully done. Appetizers enjoyed were the Roman artichokes, bread and olive oil, and olives. We ended the evening with the chèvre cheesecake, affogato and espressos. Service was professional, yet friendly and very welcoming. Thank you for an unforgettable evening!

Between us, we did 3 cocktails, 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 desserts and the bill came to about $220 tax and tip included. The restaurant had their main door closed (maybe they always do?) so we entered through a narrow back alley entrance into their bar. Parking is kinda tough. We did arrive a few mins early to our reservation and watched a table of 2 and 4 get seated before us which was a bit frustrating (it seemed like the host knew them and maybe they were given preference). Additionally, despite the reservation saying it was for my partners birthday it was not mentioned while we were being sat or by our server during our meal. Other restaurants in town (particularly Orzo and C&O) are really good about noticing these reservation notes and ensuring they are acknowledged. Both restaurants have also provided complimentary dessert or champagne and so it was a bit of a bummer it seemed to not be noticed at all. The ambiance was also much louder than we expected. Unfortunately we got sat next to 4 very drunk rowdy women which can't be helped but we could hardly hear each other over how loud the room was. The vibe was more of a nice dinner out with friends than romantic intimate dinner we hoped for. The music was upbeat and funky. Not a bad thing just maybe a misfit for what we were hoping for this evening. I haven't been here before so it might have been nicer to be sat in a quieter corner since it was just the two of us (not sure if that would have been possible). Our server Ginger was nice. She did provide a list of special for the evening which we ordered a few of. Food wise, tavola, in my opinion, certainly beats mockingbird or the local which are its two neighboring restaurants I've been to. It's actually not even a close comparison the food is significantly better imo. For starters we had the fried artichoke in aioli. Delicious - 5/5. Only problem was there wasn't more of it! The bread was from alb baking co and was served with olive oil. It was fine. Not the best bread or oil I've had. For drinks we had the alpine air (gin, pear, lemon, rosemary I think) and some pear cocktail (pear simple, Tito's, maybe pear liqueur?). My partner had an espresso martini with dessert. All cocktails were 5/5. Very good. For entrees we had the duck rotini and the pork special with collard greens and potatos au gratin. The rotini duck was interesting. I liked the flavor profile of duck, cocoa (in the pasta), pickled chiles and mushroom. I did feel like the flavor combination was so rich I wish they would have been a little more bold with the cocoa flavor. To be honest, it got lost and was completely overpowered by the mushroom flavor in the sauce. The sauce itself felt more of like a butter and fell a bit flat. The duck was chopped into small pieces and I just felt like the execution of this dish didn't do the ingredients justice. I wish they had done a braised duck breast in maybe a cocoa-orange sauce as I thought the cocoa duck combination was quite smart. I felt like the pasta version of these flavors just fell a bit flat and ended up feeling a bit bland as the mushroom was the only prominent note. Overall, I'd give this a 3/5. Neither of us were wowed by it but I think the flavors are ambitious and interesting. The pork on the other hand was fabulous. The pork was cooked perfectly in what felt like a wine reduction and was incredibly tender, no knife needed. The potatoes au gratin were a tad on the underdone side and had a bit more bite than maybe I expected but the flavor with the caramelized onion on top was fabulous. The collard greens are some of the best I've ever had. I love collard greens and am quite picky and these were amazing. I wanted a whole plate of them. 5/5. We ordered Brussels and pancetta on the side and this was also a 5/5. Very good. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the cheese plate. The tiramisu, frankly, was a 2/5. The lady fingers were totally soaking and the dessert was actually just a wet blob. The texture was just not good. The cheese plate was fine, 3/5. It was served with grilled crostini, cherries and candied walnuts. The cheeses themselves were a soft maybe goat cheese, what felt like pepper jack, and then two hard cheeses similar to Parmesan. None of them were particularly flavorful or compelling. I wish the plate had been served with some sort of jelly or sweet spread to accompany the cheeses as I felt the bread nut cheese combo was a bit too dry. Overall, I would say the main foods we had were very good and I think next time we may try their more traditional italian pastas like the carbonara or the bucatini. Overall I think the food here is very good and we would be back.

About a few minutes after purring our names down, we were told it could be shorter since some parties cancelled their reservation! AMBIANCE We were seated upstairs in a small table in the middle of the dining room. It was a cute candlelit and homey and cozy spot...the booths upstairs seemed to be able to fit 6 or so and it was somewhat loud later in the night due to some nearby folks on their second or third round of drinks. Once seated our waitress served us water and bread which was slightly warmed. We decided to each order a salad and try the pasta dishes but no sides to save room for dessert! FOOD Our salads came pretty quickly and were good portioned for the price in this economy. The spinach salad with goat cheese, beets and the walnut candied crunch were quite tasty and the Caesar was solid too. Nothing amazing but served as fresh appetizer/starters for us. 10-15 minutes later our pasta dishes arrived. The spaghetti bowl was massive and the bolognese was also a huge portion! The meatballs were hefty and well seasoned. While a bit oily for my taste and in leftover form, the bolognese dish was delicious! Loved the house made tagliatelle with the thick handmade bounce texture and beefy tomato sauce. Definitely too much food for us so we got a takeout box and took half home. The tiramisu was well portioned, fluffy and airy and the ladyfingers were not oversoaked and there wasn't as bold of an espresso flavor as I liked but definitely one of the better spots in this area. OVERALL Totally would return for next date night and way better valued than Tavola. Loved the pasta dishes way more here and the tiramisu was at least much more authentic in my opinion. Only taking off a star since our service was definitely way slower than expected after asking for more water and the check. But overall cute and solid through and though.
