Lamplighter Trading is a pretty cool space selling antiques, records, coffee, and some breakfast sandwiches. They are located in downtown Mystic. I have passed by here many times in the past, today was my first time getting a coffee. The man working here, I'm pretty sure is the owner, as he is the same man pictured on their company's website. He was not at all pleasant, a bit standoffish to be honest. I just got an iced coffee. This coffee was pretty weak in its flavor profile. It might be worthy trying something else from here. Such a fun, unexpected little spot in Mystic that's the exact opposite of all the other shops in the area. Rather than being nautical & sea focused, this shop takes on a more rustic, antique feel. They have food options and brew some yummy, delish teas right at the counter. Stop in and have some tea steep, and look around at all the bits and bobs lying about. read more

I never leave reviews but I feel like I have to on this one. Almost $20 for a bad coffee and breakfast sandwich. Bagel had a weird flavor and was not toasted, egg was black and clearly cooked on a dirty grill, cold sausage. It sucks because for that amount of money I was really expecting something great. I was the only one in there and waited at least 20 mins for a breakfast sandwich because the grill needed to be turned on and heated up apparently. Not sure why you wouldn't leave it on in case customers were coming in. Tried to make small talk but that didn't go far. It was a weird and uncomfortable vibe. read more

I am so happy that Lamplighter is in town. As a former Green Marble super fan, I was really sad to see it go. Having stopped by Lamplighter a few times now, I can confidently say that they are the perfect fit to take over the space! It is so cozy and welcoming inside - you just want to sit and hang for a while. Their coffee is great and the service is top notch. When it comes to Mystic, it is hard to find spots that feel more like home than a tourist attraction. Lamplighter is that new spot for me. I can't wait to come back again soon! read more

I didn't even get to try the food or coffee because when I walked in with my family, the staff was too busy chatting with obvious regulars to care about us. When the man they were chatting with noticed, he turned and said, "Do you have to use the bathroom?" Turned back to the tattooed man with long hair and the woman with brown hair, said "do they have to use the bathroom?" And neither employee bothered to address us before carrying on in conversation with this man. When I finally spoke up and asked for service, both employees looked at me like I was being rude for interrupting. The woman told me they were out of the coffee I came in for, then promptly turned back to the other conversation. On their website they say that they prioritize their community-- well hi, I was a local looking for a good local brew. Really happy I wound up at Mystic Chocolate Cafe down the street instead, so I guess the horrible service and overall pretentious ambiance actually did me a favor. The general vibe in there was unwelcoming, very "Portland in Connecticut" and I would not recommend. read more

Modern coffee served in a cafe from another era. Felt like the kind of place where you could debate philosophy with a stranger, like a cafe from 19th century France. They had a lot of cribbage boards on the tables, were playing jazz, and it felt like I could explore this small space for hours. Had an outstanding cold brew the...owner?...said that he had blended himself. It was fantastic and super satisfying. Rich and balanced, with a ton of flavor and sweetness. I savored it as long as I could. We talked coffee quite a bit, and he really knew his stuff. And he was brewing a batch of Ugandan coffee, so while the cold brew is all I had, clearly they have other good stuff too. It's on a fun strip with a cool record store next door. read more

The only reason I'm giving this four stars is because they don't carry decaf. I wasn't able to try the coffees but I did enjoy going in and looking around at the items that they had for sale. While at Mystic we were walking to that place to get some tea and maybe a sandwich when I witnessed a worker man with tattoos and long hair chaises away two teenagers who sat at the table outside with their drinks. They had 3 tables that were absolutely empty, no customers inside or outside. He was so rude and negative that I decided not to patronise such unfriendly rude place read more

Wanted to support a local shop. Came with 2 kids and 2 adults to get 4 bagels, 2 coffees. Walked out after a minute of being talked down to by someone behind the counter who had a comment for how we were dressed and the fact that my wife had a bottle of water in her hand. Was pretty sad of a person. I hope it was the owner because if I hired someone who went out of his way to turn away business I would be livid. P.S. we chose to walk away without saying anything (as he continued to laugh with another customer behind our back). We held in our comments about his try-hard hipster clothes and facial hair straight out of a methadone clinic. Just go to Sift, no reason to visit this place. read more

Finally a place in mystic I can just get a good ol' sandwich, pickle and chips with no bullshit attached.

I took my family here twice in one week because we enjoyed it so much. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We were thrilled to find cribbage boards and decks of cards and this is the type of place where you could play a game with a stranger and leave with a new friend. Delicious coffee, fresh bagels, and indoor and outdoor seating. The tables are first come first served but we didn't have a problem getting seats either time we went. My nephew recommends the everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, and his 13 year old brother enjoyed the PB&J sandwich. Its a small menu but there was something for everyone, with a classic coffee house feel. It's a must see in Mystic. read more

It's really exciting to have a coffee shop take the place of the iconic Green Marble. It's also really exciting to have a place in town that finally sells bagels! This is proudly stated on their chalkboard at the top of the alley so we were very happy to support this new local business. That being said, imagine my shock when we ordered 3 bagels- not toasted- no toppings- just "as is" in a bag to go and were charged...$16.00 (this included tax) For 3 bagels! I could go on to say what $16.00 could buy at other places in town but it's not necessary. So disappointed. read more
