This place looked very enticing with its wide selection and its colorful and lively interior and exterior. Even with their large selection of ice creams I had a very hard time choosing something I really wanted and was going to enjoy. I tried three samples of ones I would want, none of which really spoke to me, and was given flak by the employee for asking for another one. I settled for a very artificial-tasting pistachio so I wouldn't get yelled at anymore. Wide selection, fun atmosphere, the whole experience just didn't do it for me.

BUT Mel makes absolutely killer, world renowned gelato that it's flipped my whole perspective on gelato. She and her team are so good about allergens and cross-contamination- there's always multiple gluten-free and vegan options that make no sacrifices in taste or texture. My go-to is some sort of fruit flavor (limoncello/mojito/forest berry) + dark chocolate and it always slaps. Last- I have mad respect to business owners who continue to work in their shop day in and day out. It's pretty common for ice cream shops to be staffed by high school kids which is fine, no shade, everyone needs a day off, but Mel being there scooping really ensures the quality of the gelato and cleanliness of the shop stay at the highest level. no doubt!

I believe it's relatively new because I've never noticed it before on Block Island and I tend to notice ice cream places. Then again it is sort of tucked away in a corner and could be hard to see. The store is small, with a counter for the scream and various candies and other treats scattered around. A couple of tables inside and a courtyard overlooking the ocean on the outside. Saying that the view is great is actually an understatement. We didn't bother with the candy but the ice cream was absolutely incredible. Smooth and rich and no doubt containing a astronomical amount of calories and fat, just the way great ice cream should be. They don't have vast amount of different types but enough variety to satisfy anybody except those looking for something very unusual. There aren't many things better in life than sitting in a beautiful spot over looking the ocean and devouring great ice cream.
