We LOVED this place. First of all it's about 12,000° today and once you add all the people who decided to go to Block Island today, it's miserable. So we stopped for gelato. The kids loved it, my mom loved it, I loved it. Great portions too. I got the blackberry Merlot sorbetto. 10/10, would get again. It was refreshing and just a little zingy.

Super good, fresh espresso! Got a couple iced and they come with two shots of espresso each, and the taste was great! Highly recommend.

The ice cream is always delicious, the employees are so sweet, and the cookies... OMG honey, they're massive. One cookie is big enough for four adults to share and still be happy. Another highlight is the little carousel out front--it's such a charming touch and perfect for kids. Between the treats, the atmosphere, and the friendly service, this place is a must-stop every time we visit.

The ice cream/gelato prices were a bit high in my opinion, and I was not too impressed by the flavor selection or quality. I was sold on getting a peanut butter ice cream scoop but after looking at the tub physically, I decided against it since it looked like it has melted and been refrozen. Instead, I got a scoop of the cookie dough gelato. One thing I did appreciate is that it did not have chocolate chips. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it did have too many cookie dough chunks - I would say on average, 3-5 chunks per spoonful so I couldn't really taste the gelato as much. I should've asked for a sample beforehand. It also had a mild freezer taste which I did not like. I think one standard scoop ending up being around $9. There were a lot of people when I got there so it might have been just me who did not have such a great experience. They did have a couple benches and tables outside. Also, I believe they have a sit down outdoor dining area for their restaurant portion, and they had some live music going which was nice. In addition, when you first walk in, they have a LARGE selection of pastries and they all look tasty. This shop is very close to where the ferry picks up and drops off in case you are looking for a treat before hopping on.

They had napkins and sanitizing wipes available for the inevitable melting. Such love and care went into these treats and the service was wonderful. The place seemed to be older so the door was stuck and staff had to come struggle to open it. Inside is typical of ice-cream shop with counter and the cooler with different type of gelato/sorbet. They have variety of flavors and some interesting one like Dubai chocolate, mandarin and Maine blueberry. They do let you try if you ask so if you are not sure you can ask to try them. I ended up getting large just so i can try different flavors and it's also just $1 difference from each size. I ended up getting Belgian chocolate, peanut butter browny and chocolate chip affogato flavors. They were all very tasty. I was impressed by the Belgian chocolate as it was super rich chocolate flavor i was looking for a while. Service was good but the staff did struggle with the door and had issue with credit card reader too. Maybe should be more ready for customer when they open. Overall i still liked their gelato and would be a good stop for frozen treat in Newport.

You either have to park in the lower lot, or stop in when walking the shops. Some of the flavors are unique. Lately I'm stuck on Ube, which I was told is Phillipino eggplant. It has a slight chocolate taste to me. Again, there's so many flavors there that you can't get or find at any local ice cream stand or shop. Best part is they're open all year round, so this isn't seasonal. They do have a freezer unit that has many products and flavors that they carry, in 1 pint containers to take home. They have what was a store front window display area where you can sit and enjoy, while overlooking traffic going by. If you're going to eat at any of the area restaurants, don't eat dessert there, but instead come here. You won't be disappointed.

I believe it's relatively new because I've never noticed it before on Block Island and I tend to notice ice cream places. Then again it is sort of tucked away in a corner and could be hard to see. The store is small, with a counter for the scream and various candies and other treats scattered around. A couple of tables inside and a courtyard overlooking the ocean on the outside. Saying that the view is great is actually an understatement. We didn't bother with the candy but the ice cream was absolutely incredible. Smooth and rich and no doubt containing a astronomical amount of calories and fat, just the way great ice cream should be. They don't have vast amount of different types but enough variety to satisfy anybody except those looking for something very unusual. There aren't many things better in life than sitting in a beautiful spot over looking the ocean and devouring great ice cream. Even though it was hoter than hell when we were on the island, a cool breeze was coming off the water and combined with the richness and algidity of the great ice cream the world was a perfect place. At least our little part of the world. Their are lots of ice cream places in the world but The Scoop Shack is one of those special places that I will always seek out when I'm on Block Island. The place to relax and just appreciate the moment and forget everything else. The ice cream here is exceptional but no matter how good the scream is, the views will always be even better.

Overall, this is a good spot if you (or your kids) are yearning for ice cream on a hot summer day and it won't hurt your wallet as long as you're all willing to share a kiddie sized ice cream =P
