Nice mom and pop ice cream shack on Matunuck Beach road before you get to the Ocean Mist. The price of every item is listed (see pics) as well as all the current available flavors. I have started to focus more on frozen yogurt since it has less or none saturated fats compared to regular ice cream. My mint chocolate chip on a sugar cone was delish....the cone was crisp and fresh. Many high school to college age kids work here to make a summer wage, so it's nice to patronize a place that gives youth a source of income. Street parking is available before and after, basically off the main road. They take credit cards for a bit of a extra credit card fee...like 2%...nothing really.... read more

Amazing scoops! A hit of pure summer nostalgia. The waffle cone was legit and the moose tracks was excellent.

My family has been coming to Matunuck every summer since the 70s. We go here almost every night for some ice cream. My favorite is a chocolate milkshakes extra thick. Extreme chocolate/brownie batter are also delish. If you walk by at like 11am you can smell them making their waffle cones. The line can sometimes be long, but definitely worth it, especially after a long day at the beach! read more

As I reflect back on a 1997 trip I took back East I'm reminded of the Vanilla Bean. Living on the West Coast is awesome. Sun, mountains and beaches, however RI has the Vanilla Bean. As we walked through the streets after dinner, ice cream was on the family's mind. A leisurely walk brought us upon a small line of people waiting their turn to place an order. While chatting in line I noticed about 30 people had gathered behind us. It was amazing, idle chit chat, laughs and the occasional joke about feeling sorry for the late comers someone pointed out a car slowing down for a U turn, it was a off duty employee who dashed through the door through on an apron and began scooping. The cheers were plenty. I exited with a Vanilla Bean cone. Today I was in Fresno attending to business, I noticed the billowy white clouds welcoming fall, the sight took me back to the thought of Rhode Island and the Vanilla Bean. read more

I'm trying to describe this place, it's not an Oasis - a fertile spot in a desert where water is found. My definition of Vanilla Bean, a vacation spot on the water where ice cream is found. On the beautiful shoreline there is Vanilla Bean, a stand alone structure serving both sit down patrons inside as well as a side window. Great selection of ice screams! I walk up to the window at 7:55pm and I zero in on the Salted Caramel with pretzel flavor. Two scoops on a sugar cone please. Mmmm... Normally I'd choose a "Death by Chocolate" flavor but this flavor was calling me. The pretzels tasted fresh and they were covered by sweet creamy ice cream with the salted caramel running throughout holding it all together. My boyfriend has been talking about this place since about the second week we started dating, over 2 years ago. We finally stopped in last night, and I now see what he means. It's a pretty random little ice cream place, not much to look at, but the ice cream was totally and completely amazing. I had the purple cow, a raspberry ice cream with both chocolate and vanilla chips, and it was to die for. The salted caramel ice cream too had full pretzels and amazing caramel swirled throughout, and I know we're going to have to take a road trip down there a different weekend during the summer, it was that amazing of an ice cream tasting experience. Definitely recommend driving around the corner then, park, and take a walk on the beach. read more

I always order Coffee Oreo when I see the sign of "Bliss" but definitely had some ice cream envy going on when I sampled my friend's Salted Caramel Pretzel! While friendliness was harshly lacking and the list of flavors on a recessed wall in the distance could double as a vision test... what Vanilla Bean can boast unmatched is being a hop-skip-and-a-jump from the South Kingstown Town Beach, complete with shortcut path through the bushes. Parking is a bit limited, but you'll want to walk an extra mile so you don't feel guilty about ordering a large cone of Vanilla Bean Supreme - that's the signature flavor featuring vanilla ice cream, caramel swirls, chocolate chunks, and a few other tasty bits. The Butter Pecan is also pretty amazing. The lines are typically loooong, and there's not a lot of space inside, but there's plenty of picnic tables scattered around and you're within close distance to the beach. i am surprised that such an iconic place as the vanilla bean has just a single review, especially since virtually every summer night there are lines at both windows as well as inside. The ice cream is good, lots of flavors ro choose from, good selection of sundays as well. I think they used to make all their own ice cream, but now they contract it out. Half my rating is based on the nostalgia of the place....its just a tiny little shack right on the beach its been around for quite some time and is popular with the locals. Excellent ice cream, terrible terrible service. The young lady working who took our order was fabulous but we had 11 people and she was the only one doing the order. The boys just stood around. When my mom tried to speak with one of the boys he was rude and argued. It literally took over forty minutes start to gi with for out order to be fulfilled.
