I just came back from Mexico. There is no doubt that we have in Chicago the best Mexican Food in USA, but the best Mexican restaurant with the most authentic Mexican vibe is Lalo's. We love this place! We go here all the time. Last weekend we ordered several items for carry out including the enchiladas verdes without cheese. When we got home and began eating they did not take the cheese out of the enchiladas so we called. They were gracious and offered a free replacement. We have been going here for years. We eat in and do take out. More recently their food isn't quite the same. If you order kids burrito steak the meat is different than that of steak taco.... Best description would be lesser quality and/or less seasoning less well cooked. (Latin tastebuds here if it matters to the person reading this) Given the many years going we let it be a "fluke" event. Hence, We decided to do take out from them this weekend and we got the order wrong. They made it right by giving us another meal, however we had to return for it. We should have just gotten a refund. The new meal was the correct, however we got food poisoning. We reached out and all you got was hoping quick recovery. No refund. We found it odd that the one meal that was "wrong" & replaced resulted in food poisoning. (The replacement had different flavor/seasoning) The other orders that we got were correct and had no food poising issues (with "same" meats). And no, the person had nothing else to eat prior to the Lalos meal. The food poisoning effect happened within minutes of eating. If you decide to go and get your meal order wrong it may be best you don't even bother getting another/replacement just a refund. However, I ordered the Taco Salad from Uber Eats it wasn't the same steak (this was ground beef) it didnt have the rice in it nor the olives in it. I went there with my family to enjoy a late night dinner to celebrate my son's birthday. The service is good with fast and attentive waitstaff. We recommend the Carne Asada which is served with rice, beans and tortillas. If you love a good margarita, they have the best! They give you a complementary bowl of chicken soup. You have to ask for the hot carrots, but they are also complementary. They used to have them on the table but now you have to ask for them. Average at best food for very rude service. DOORDASHERS BEWARE!! Plenty of restaurants tend to insist you confirm an order before handing it to you. This particular restaurant does not have a strong enough signal for you to confirm the order inside. A big tip they won't tell you is that they have Wi-Fi inside. But on my particular run with the staff here after completing their request and confirming the order the woman would not hand me the order. She dug her fingers into it actually, and the manager had to come and release her from it. All of this after making me confirm it. There are various things they can do to make this easier for Dashers: For starters the food is sitting out on the counter, so it's not like it's staying in a warm place or anything. They can move the delivery station closer to the door where the signal is stronger. They also could've told me they had Wi-Fi when they realized I was having signal issues. I had to figure that out for myself. They made a point of saying, this happens all the time, and yet they were not prepared. There's no reasonable explanation for why they insist on making it difficult. Sure, this location has a dark ethnic vibe to it, but that's just for the people that are actually there sitting down. For any of you customers that just happened to like their food and want to order it delivered they have zero respect for you, your food, or the person delivering it. read more

The Banderillas is sorted meat skewers (chicken, shrimp and steak) that comes with rice and toppings, along with two cheese empanadas. The chicken and steak were cooked and seasoned to perfection, but the shrimp was a bit rubbery, unfortunately. The Pollo Con Mole was not that great either, but okay nonetheless. The cheese was hard and stuck to the plate, the shredded chicken tasted like fake meat, sauce on top tasted like it was out of a old jar and the chips tasted hard, old and stale. Ate three bites and was done. We have been coming to Lao's since I was a little girl and it never disappoints. The prices have gone up over the years however the quality of the food and portions have not changed at all. We live for the soup that comes with every meal, I swear this soup can cure any cold you have! Also, the carrots and garlic that come with the chips are always so delicious and plentiful. Their salsa is delicious, we can eat bowl after bowl! The chips are always fresh, and are unique compared to other restaurants. The margaritas are also so delicious! This is my second time here. It was date night for us and we went in a 1920s style attire. When we arrived the parking lot was full. We went around twice and finally realized there is another area opposite the building. To get a seat they take your phone number and you get a text within the next available sitting. Since it was busy it took about fifteen minutes but it was worth every minute. We ordered Enchiladas Suizas as our main course and got shrimp cocktail appetizer. Every bite was delicious. Our waitress was phenomenal, very attentive and courteous to us. We were stuffed but could not resist to get desert. We went for Fried Ice Cream and Tres Leches cake. Everything on there was cooked exactly as it should be. The octopus was some of the best I've ever had. I have eaten at Mexican restaurants all over the United States. Family fav for years. Everyone has different palates, this is mine having grown up in the SW. It gets busy, so expect a wait if you go during peak hours (check Yelp or Google to see those times). They have a decent Gluten Free selection (daughter is Celiac). Chips, salsa, soup, and Taqueria Veggies for the table. Sangria and Margaritas are awesome. Staff is very courteous and prompt. Band night is pretty cool to add ambiance to the meal. You'll have to be patient with parking (the only downside). read more
