Decided to give lala Java another try after a not so great pulled pork grilled cheese from there last fall. Figured we all have our off days and I would give the local business another try. Flash forward to today when I ordered a Java chino and a sausage egg and cheese bagel. I was charged $10 for the frozen coffee. Their signage is all over the place and as someone who has only been there once before, it's a little confusing but nothing crazy. Seemed expensive but everything is these days so I just paid and waited for my order. As I'm waiting I'm able to get closer to the actual menu board hanging up and see that it has the price listed for the exact drink I ordered at $5 and change so I ask the young man who took my order why I was charged so much for my drink. He ~rudely~ explained how the menu prices have changed and I was charged extra for espresso. I then asked why would I be charged for espresso if I ordered a drink that clearly shows it already comes with it? His reasoning was -well people order it all the time with no espresso in it, even children get it so it doesn't automatically come with it- I said well wouldn't that just be considered a milkshake or a different beverage completely & if it doesn't come with espresso why is it shown on the picture? but after several eyerolls and sighs from the employee I just left because it was not worth arguing about over $5 The drink and bagel were good enough I guess but the customer service is the reason I will not be returning. read more

Ive tried this place few times because i pass by it all the time but its a fail every time for me. Their lemonade is bad, and their ice coffee is probably the worst ive ever had. Lala Java has hands down the best iced coffee selection you'll find anywhere around here. The team is personable, friendly, and always welcoming. As someone who manages a Starbucks, I love the irony (and the looks I get) when I walk in wearing my work shirt while enjoying their coffee, it's that good! On top of that, they offer an endless selection of baked goods, drinks to fit anyone's taste, and even some really cool merch to browse and buy. I've gone here a few times because it's close to my work and a coworker gave me a gift card. (I would not spend my money here) Food and drinks are overpriced and the quality is just ok. Service is very slow. The place is really crowded with lots of merch and random stuff. It feels overwhelming and chaotic to me. It is not a "hot space to chill" even though that's what the owners advertise it as. There's no wifi which is so strange for a coffee shop. That is annoying, but I'll just go to Panera from now on. Also, the owner lets his dog run around the kitchen and cafe area. I thought that was pretty unsanitary. Mine was supposed to come with cheese, pulled chicken, and hot honey. Cheese wasn't melted. It legitimately had a spoonful of (what I presume to be) canned chicken. And no hot honey. For almost $8. This was a nice little coffee place and clearly a local favorite. All the table were full when I arrive so I sat with a friend at the coffee bar. The food selections looked decent though I just had an expresso drink. Not sure if they offer coffee in a cup, I didn't ask. Mine was served in a to go cup which is not my preference. What an oasis. We stopped by today and could not believe what a hidden gem we found. Wonderful selection of coffee, baked goods, grilled sandwiches, soups... everything we had tasted fresh, a tomato soup was absolutely fabulous as well as 2 different types of muffins we had. My favorite is cinnamon. They offer coffee, T-shirts, hoodies and mugs too. Music is so calming and lovely that you feel like being somewhere at the beach. And the staff were so good!! I live in the Bay Area now, and when I visit family in Massachusetts, this is like a fun little oasis of vegan treats, delicious smoothies, excellent coffees, and friendly vibes. I just moved to Shrewsbury last week and joined a group on Facebook to get recommendations on where to go. I was invited to the shop by Lola for some coffee, I love my coffee and I'm pretty picky on what kind I drink because I want to taste my coffee. Not only was I greeted by Lola she gave me a tour of her shop and I absolutely fell in love, extremely friendly wonderful Baristas even the customers in line were great... but most important the coffee was amazing, my fiancée had the lemonade and it was so refreshing. Before leaving we picked up a bag of Bahama Blueberry Coffee and Kiwi Pear Tea to brew at home. I think I just found my new coffee spot. Love this place. read more

I've been here 3 times, and I'm disappointed each visit. I feel like this place could /should be good. Cute country store look and feel, obviously mom & pop type ownership, and I know people love it. I don't see what the fuss is about. If you are charging nearly $3 for a medium coffee, and you are a "coffee shop", you should have some pretty solid coffee. I find it to be very bland and watered down. IMO, Honey Farms is a far superior cup of coffee for $1. I much prefer Starbucks at this price point. I just don't know what the fuss is about. I've only had the coffee, not the multitude of pastry and cake stuff. The people I know who recommended the place were trading for a fitness competition so I know their opinions were based only on the coffee. read more

Been coming here for years.. today asked to Bullet coffee and even though they dont sell it, the sweet Barista asked what it was and blended some butter with coffee and topped off with more coffee. I frequented LalaJava when they were a small unassuming shop on Rt 9 in Shrewsbury. Back then I was surprised how good their espresso drinks were for a small shack on the edge of the highway. The last time I went for a visit LalaJava was gone and I thought, well there goes another locally owned small business. As luck would have it, I was in Northborough yesterday and discovered LalaJava's new location. The inside was very similar to the old place on Rt 9 and the double cappuccino tasted pretty much as I remembered it. My order: Great: tomato soup, atmosphere, t-shirts and other random items for sale. Good: espresso, scones Good/Fair: service, efficient, accurate, apathetic Poor: no reusable dishware or utensils for eat-in orders. Pretty wasteful. Suggestion: Focus on quality over quantity espresso drinks. Offer reusable dishware and utensils for eat-in guests. I am glad to see that LalaJava is still in business. read more

The staff are friendly, the coffee is great (They even have cold brew now!!!!), and the food is super tasty. Upon stepping into the store, I was instantly transported to the islands. I stood in the entrance in a pleasant/excited shock while trying to soak everything in. They. Have. Palm trees! All-in-all, the ambiance is a well-themed and fun environment which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise to both me and my boyfriend. As for the drinkables: reasonable prices, lactose free options, and unique coffees and teas! I thoroughly enjoy their "Tiki Teas" featuring unique pairings like: pear and kiwi; mango, banana, and pineapple; and guava and peach. I was worried the teas would taste artificial, but they don't! Whatever they use to flavor the Tiki Teas is good stuff such that I feel like they use actual juice/fruit. I absolutely LOVED the (1) Guava Peach Tiki Tea, and the (2) Mango, Banana, and Guava Tiki Tea. If you want something less sweet/flavored, try Pear and Kiwi Tiki Tea--although mine could have been made with less flavoring than normal. ‍ We went back THREE times today. Unfortunately, third time they closed a bit early. How about the food? Kettle corn, pastries, flatbreads, grilled cheeses, brownies, aaaand gluten free brownies! (Oh my!) My boyfriend and I will be back to try the grilled cheeses (which can be made with Texas Toast)! I am impressed by their sophisticated grill cheese selection and we are looking forward to trying them. I will update this review after we do. read more

I discovered this great place while visiting a nearby animal clinic. My dog had an appointment once a week for 4 weeks, so I got to satisfy my coffee addiction once a week for a month. I just wished I lived closer. I love lattes but I hate lukewarm lattes. This cafe made the best, hot latte I have had in some time. I tried one of the grilled cheese sandwiches and found it to be excellent. Instead of the standard potato chips, LalaJava puts a handful of Pepperidge farm gold fish crackers on the side. Had a very nice breakfast here before the super bowl, the coffee was very good. I had a iced mint mocha, a bacon egg and cheese bagel also a lemon loaf. Everything was delicious. The service was very kind. The price was $19 for me and my girlfriends meals and coffee which is very good. I would say the pricing is a little higher then dunkins but definitely lower then Starbucks. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the food took a little bit but it was busy so understandable.
