I should have read the last review. I will not be coming back to this place. This is the worst manicure I've ever had in 20 years and it took 90 minutes to do. The tech was impatient and reluctant to address issues like debris in the paint and the fact that my nail is split on the side. She just said "your nails are weak" and that was that. I asked her to file it, she said it would mess up the design. Like she didn't want to correct the oversight if it meant she'd have to redo that nail. The owner knew I wasn't happy and offered to fix it if I come back. No ma'am. I'll get somebody else to do it. ON TOP OF THAT, when the tech put lotion in her hand, I let her know that I didn't want any. She opened the bottle and scraped the lotion off her hand back into the bottle. No gloves, just her hand. I'm sorry it's one thing if you do that at home with your own personal bottle of lotion, but not with something that you're going to be using with other customers. WILD. read more

I needed my no-chip polish removed and decided to come here as it was closest to my place despite the negative reviews. I figured an easy polish removal couldn't go too badly, right? They were able to fit me in as a walk-in and got to work right away. However, instead of using polish remover, the nail tech used a nail drill. I don't recall other salons doing this, but I didn't put up a fight. It was deeply unpleasant and left my nails all banged up. Once they were done, they talked me into doing a new manicure. I said why not, probably because I like the look of polish on my nails. The nail tech rushed through it. The layers were uneven, left polish on my skin, and there were bubbles in the application. They didn't tell me when my drying time was up, so I sat around for a while and then dazedly walked toward the front to pay. At least they didn't charge me for the removal, only the manicure, which was a very reasonable price. read more

Super negative experience-zero intentions of giving them any more business. came in and showed a design and the artist confidently said they can do it. 2 hrs later and the design looks NOTHING like what I asked for I asked if there was a way to alter it where she felt confident that the design would look good. She said yes and 30 mins later it looked terrible. She finally admitted to not being able to do the design. I ended up being there from 430-740 to get no set at all due to running out of time after 3+ hours and it ended with me having to have her completely remove the set due to the failure to provide the quality she promised at the start. Do not come for designs or high quality nails. I had been a loyal client for a year plus in 2023 to the artist Kenny and after he left the women who did my service today did the same thing as today where she over promised her skill set. I thought I'd give it another change as she seems so sure of herself and is the owner according to her. If you plan to come- do very basic service or you'll be insanely disappointed. read more

Annie and Kenny are one of the top best nail techs in this shop. They won't turn you down for a simple French tip... unlike Ava who turned me down because she didn't know how to do a French tip, and scared me to death when she yelled halfway doing my pedicure. Ava was very gentle so for her to yell halfway through makes me think she's insane. Don't recommend going if you want designs. They specialize in solid colors. Next time I go I'm making sure I don't get Ava. She can't do anything. read more

I had a great experience here! I came in last minute at 6:00pm on a Wednesday for a no-chip pedi and full set acrylic and everyone was so nice and welcoming. They took their time on my pedi and my feet feel so soft. I also bite and pick my nails when there's no acrylic on and the person who did my nails was very detail focused and took extra time around the nails that were messed up and did a good job reshaping my mess. They have lost a lot of great nail techs and Annie skims at the bare minimum of skills. she rushes through the process without taking all the steps needed to do your nails. They can be rude to people of color at times. I noticed they are more open to talking to the clients of Caucasian descent than other ethnicity. I am offended at times for the way I am ign in their establishment. Even after making an appointment to be seen the salon was still unprepared for my visit and I was sent told to come back the next morning. Only to find out that that morning they still called and said they wouldn't be in till 1 or 2pm. Very unprofessional. I am no longer happy at all with their services. I have been going to this salon for several years and enjoyed the salon services from Dennis. Sadly he left. Went there on Saturday, 7/9 and was extremely disappointed and will NEVER go back. The salon is completely in disarray, while getting a pedicure the manager who was providing the service was on her phone most of the time. I can't count how many times she left me and my service to answer phone calls. THE WORST experience ever. No longer recommend this place! I went to this salon 6/12/22 for a basic manicure. I paid for my manicure before polish was applied and I was charged $23. It seemed kinda steep, but everything is going up, so I took it in stride. Once I got home, I saw I was charged $20 for the manicure and a $3 tip. First off, you ask a client if they WANT to tip and if so, how much. You DO NOT take it upon yourself to add whatever tip you think is appropriate. The irony is that I gave my nail tech a $5 tip (in cash, like most salons prefer) prior to my manicure even starting! It's illegal to take money out of a person's bank account without their consent and I will be calling the salon when they open today. I have lived in Edgewater for a little over two years. This salon is about a five minute walk from my apartment. I usually frequent this salon every two weeks for pedicures and on occasion I get a manicure or a full set if I have a vacation coming up or something special. There isn't anything special about it, there are three talented nail technicians but the women who runs the front desk is not one of them. I learned this the hard way when she made my full set super thick and refused to make them shorter upon request because she didn't think it would look nice, however these are my hands after all. To be perfectly honest the only reason I continued to give them my business was simply the convenience of it being so close to my home. I am a nervous nail biter and try to grow out my nails however sometimes I really bite my nails down to nothing if I'm going through something particularly stressful. I am also a barista full time and the chemicals I use for cleaning at work take a toll on my hands and make my cuticles very dry. Which brings me to the final time I would ever go there. I went to have my nails done for my wedding anniversary dinner. I had bitten my nails down to almost nothing. The nail technician decided to do an acrylic overlay instead of a full set so that it would last me longer. This was all fine but as he proceeds to do my nails the women who runs the front desk is standing over me and making comments in their dialect that had the entire staff laughing. So I turned on my google translate on my phone and sat it in my lap. Without even having yet read the translation I felt really uncomfortable. It doesn't matter if you don't speak the same language you can tell when someone is making fun of you. When I left and read the translation my jaw dropped. They were all saying my nails were so short that they looked like I had toe nails on my fingers and that maybe this would be a new trend of toenail nails. I think the technician doing my nails could sense I was uncomfortable and had caught on and kept trying to talk to me. I will never step foot in this place again and honestly I hope that their business doesn't survive the pandemic. Don't go here if you want to be surrounded by nice, genuine people. read more

My nails and cuticles are still jacked up (6 weeks later) after getting the worst manicure of my life. The guy who did my nails was horribly inexperienced. I felt like this was his first time ever giving a manicure. He cut my cuticles a couple of times and they were bleeding. When he put my hand in the (extremely dirty) gel lamp, it burned because of the open sores! I hate telling people how to do their job, but I was directing him through it the whole time, and I'm rarely that person. When paying (I can't believe , the manager asked me how it went. When I showed him my bleeding cuticles, he just said "oh." Then he walked over to the manicurist who did my nails and they laughed about it right in front of me. Everything here is dirty. I really wanted to give this salon a better review and I feel kind of bad for writing this. The staff is friendly and welcoming, especially the owner. My sister and I got there around 5 pm on a week day and the owner was able to take us without an appointment. We both got acrylic nails and she rushed through the process. She didn't color our nails fully so the bottom was white and it looked like we got our nails done weeks ago, not fresh from the salon (view photos attached to see what I'm referring to). Also, the sides of the nails were not fully colored either. The nails are only $23 which is reasonably priced compared to other nail salons but they don't do a good job so I'd rather pay more next time and get them done somewhere else. The last time I was here, prior to my visit this week, was a 3 years ago. I got my eyelashes done and they did a terrible job. They used so much glue that I couldn't even keep my eyes open and it looked like $5 stick on lashes from Walgreens. Okay, the first time I went there, the girl there convinced me to get a dip powder gel. My nails were in bad condition and needed quite a bit of repair. I loved the work she did on my nails. The manicure lasted me close four weeks even. So I decided to go there again, but I guess that second visit will be my last visit. The same girl, she was so distracted collecting her food packages in between, talking and shouting at someone in a language I couldn't grasp. The manicure started showing signs of wear even before he end of the first week. By the end the week it was completely chipped. I went there to ask them to fix it for. The girl who did it the first acted rude and the girl assigned to me did such a bad job. That one nail looks uneven and like a child's job. I have been coming here over a year now and get Kim EVERYtime. I figured I'd try a walk in. When i arrived the woman at the front had NO MASK. I stepped back several feet and made my apt to see Kim for next day. Kim is amazing and i love coming to her.... Unfortunately I was torn at my recent visit to get a pedicure, Kim and i were the only ones wearing masks. I am disappointed at the facts that the others felt indoors was ok to not wear a mask unless directly in front of a customer. (Well hello I'm still a customer) There was a gentleman walking back and forth while I got me pedicure with NO MASK. No doors were open for passing of air. There were 7 of us in the store and 5 of them...no mask.! Where is the respect and consideration for your customers?? I felt terribly uncomfortable and even asking Kim loud enough why she was the only one wearing a mask. The others still never put one on. While i Love yo see Kim I cant say I'm in a rush to go back. They need to take this mask compliance a little more seriously before I ever return. Outside of this issue. This is my one and only complaint. I absolutely cannot say enough good things about this place since the new owner and new staff have come in! I had my first manicure there today (no chip) and it's honestly the best one I've had in Chicago in the 10 months I've lived here! I asked for a polka dot design and Tracy did an above-and-beyond job! She was so lovely to talk to, took her time, was gentle with my nails (and removing my last no-chip), and even gave me an education in what is healthy for my nails and what's not! I've been getting no-chips for a few months now and no one has ever explained the best way to take care of them, or that some polish brands can thin your nail bed and that the techs at this salon will actually NOT do a no-chip on you if they think your nails aren't healthy enough for it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that! Knowing that they are looking out for the health of my nails and not just trying to make a quick dollar totally sold me on their services! I have FINALLY found my go-to nail salon. I can't wait to go back and get a pedicure now and I am planning on trying a bikini wax (my first ever!) here this summer. The new salon is gorgeous (exposed brick, wood floors, a lovely shade of green on the walls) and it's very relaxing. The owner is an absolute gem and Tracy was amazing. I didn't have an appointment and walked in about 30 minutes after they opened and was able to sit right down. There were only a few other customers already there. About 2 hours later I was all finished and they certainly did not charge me enough money for what I received... so I left a 50% tip because it was that amazing. Yes, I said a 50% tip! (It took forever to get my terrible no-chip off from my last botched manicure, which was done somewhere else, so 2 hours is probably not quite normal!) I would definitely make an appointment though as the weather gets warmer because I can only imagine this place is going to be busy once the word gets out about how amazing they are. This place does an ok job on nails. Be careful going on weekends, bc they get slammed, but they won't give you an accurate estimate on when your mani or pedi is going to start...so your toes and fingers end being prunes soaking for 40 min before someone is available. The last time I went a teenager did my pedi, which was annoying. Her friend (not an employee nor a customer) sat in the pedi chair next to me and the two of them chattered on about teenager stuff. I remember being a teenager. I was an idiot. I would not have been very good in the service industry, and neither was this girl. I was so annoyed by their chatter that I cancelled the mani and just walked out after the pedi. I want to relax and chill out, not hear teen DRAMA. Just give me 45 min of chilling out! Jeez. I do not reccomend Magic Touch. There are much better options for a decent manicure in the neighborhood with a better paint job and better customer services. I had a really nice girl who did my pedicure and no chip french manicure, however the problem arose when I was almost done, and the color on my toes became discolored. I had a pink, but it became purple in some areas. It looked like they used 2 colors on my toes and wanted a Barney theme. It looked horrible, and since I was on a time crunch, they told me I could come back the next day and they would do a polish change. I was a little annoyed, but I understood it wasn't my manicurist's fault. It was an issue with the bottle of polish. I still paid and tiped. The next morning, I arrived at opening, to see a long line and only 2 people working on a Saturday. I kindly asked how long the wait would be, or if more staff was planning on coming in. She was extremely rude and did not gave me any time frame for any of my resonable questions. I was so upset, I left the salon in a huff. Later on, I got a polish change. Color is great. But ultimately, do not spend your money here, unless u want to be jerked around by the staff and not have them stand by their subpar services and disgraceful customer service. This place could qualify for a Salon Takeover by Tabitha. You all know where I'm going. It's in a GREAT location-easy to reach by bus, train, car share, etc. It gets plenty of sunlight and the staff seem to want to do a good job. Due to its prime sunny location a lot of the nail polishes on display seem to have sweated and degraded in quality. Also, the sun shows they don't often sweep, Swiffer, etc their floors. One nail technician was on her cell phone while giving a manicure. What??!!! She also had a pair of high heels behind the cash register bar. It just seemed very unprofessional. I decided to stay because I was a walk in and knew my regular nail place couldn't squeeze me in. $25 for a decent manicure isn't bad at all. The Deluxe manicure for $25 includes a hand scrub which smells wonderful. Leticia, the tech I saw, was very professional and sweet. If you're headache or migraine prone, the Acetone fumes should be noted. They were quite strong for me. Totally relevant but not: It's the first of May and there are Christmas/holiday decorations in part of the salon. read more
