Few days later sent me an email advising they "recommend" having their design consultant, come out and do her design thing. It would cost $100 and if we liked the estimate it would go towards the cost. I don't need it and didn't ask for it. I guess that's there way of charging for an "estimate" Melissa also said the owner is a designer. If that's so, his expertise should be part of the process automatically. You know, the cost of doing business. I read in a previous review that their estimate was done contactless with photos sent by the customer. Looks like that's NOT their process any longer. I'm guessing they have enough work and don't need any new stuff??

He's very concerned about the end result and how it looks and none of his work has been short of beautiful. Absolutely recommended, I work from home and just left my door unlocked and my credit card on the table. I'd trust him in my house if I were away, no question. He went over every bit of his work in extreme detail starting from major fixes to observations. Very detail oriented. The best. Even gave me a chunk of the drywall he removed when installing an access panel so I could match the paint later. For the single star Karen, grow up. I've owned my home in Austin for 15 years. I've seen every type of contractor you can imagine. I'm…read moreproud to say that I have FINALLY found the best one yet: Sky-Lan. I'm calling them for everything that I need from here on out. Skylur came recommended to me by an electrician I trust. I had just finished paying another contractor 50% of the job when he flat-out disappeared on me and left me with a half-demo'd hall and bath (yep, tale as old as time). Skylur was extremely sympathetic to my situation and came over immediately! He looked at the current gutted bathroom and provided a quote within a couple of days. The quote was extremely fair for such a large amount of detailed work. His quote was less than ABC who wanted more money for far less work (ABC was just going to do patch jobs...but Skylur removed and replaced all drywall so it was perfectly seamless and brand new!) Skylur is patient, professional, and knows exactly what he's talking about and how to best solve a problem. He answers every single call or text right away. The communication is outstanding; fast, clear and always "yes, can do!" which is huge for me. He doesn't push back or say "well...that'll cost more." He just happily gets it done for the price he quoted and sticks by his word. For this project, I needed pocket door installation, major drywall repair, new baseboards, new trim, prime/painting, vanity installation, electric work. It was a very detailed and technical job (and I am admittedly pretty OCD when it comes to my house projects). Skylur made some smart suggestions that would not only get the job done, but look 1000% times better--aka: brand new. Our old hallway and bathroom were dark, crusty (bad caulk jobs over the years) with layers and layers of terrible texture and paint. Look at the photos and you'll see what a difference Sky-Lan made. Our new hallway and bath are bright, clean and about as perfect as I could ask for. Our kids finally have a bathroom that's bright and fun. There was a team of two who worked every day from 8:30am until past 6pm until the job was done. They protected the floor, covered all the walls and worked quickly and quietly. Every evening, Skylur would personally come over to inspect the work and make a plan for the next day. If I had any questions or concerns, Skylur was there to address them. We would walk through the progress for the day and I could just point to things I was thinking about. His answer to every question was "Yep, we can do that" or "Yes, we'll get that taken care of." Every night, the team swept, cleaned up all tools and materials, and removed the old plastic from the walls. Then the next day, they set up new plastic and got right to work, minimizing dust. Drywall/demo can be messy, but they were the neatest, most respectful crew I've seen yet. I even had a few huge ceiling cracks with some water damage in a nearby living room. While they had the materials, Skylur's team fixed those cracks and painted the repaired part of the ceiling and wall at no extra charge. And not once did Skylur say that something would cost extra to do it right. He just did it the right way to begin with. There was never any nickel and diming. Even after I paid in full, Skylur came back over to touch up a few things and install the pocketdoor hardware that I ordered. He also helped plumb the sink for the new vanity when I couldn't quite get it myself. Learn from me: don't hire the "guy with a truck" to save some money (that guy will take the money and run). And don't hire the big ABC guys off the internet who just want to charge the most money for the least work. Hire Sky-Lan for the personal service and attention to every detail on your job. His crew is talented and put a lot of time and effort into the job. The craftsmanship is top-notch. And as we all know, no job is perfect. So if there's something you see that you want done just a little differently, his team will do it with no questions asked. Skylur does not charge you until you say the job is done. No other contractor does that. He's truly one of the greats, and I'm glad I found him. Just wish I knew about him 15 years ago! Skylur and Sky-Lan are my new go-to contractors. Hire them, get the job done quickly and beautifully for a price you're comfortable with--then move on to the next project with Sky-Lan!

Robert and Lana are awesome!…read more In the last three months, Top Notch has done the following for us- - replaced and painted an exterior door - textured and painted two bathrooms - re-shingled our roof - replaced gutters - washed and stained a patio - replaced a light fixture - put in a set of interior french doors and two regular interior doors - painted a vanity and made a new top for it - painted several rooms ..... and I am sure there are at least 5 things that I am forgetting! Top Notch can do almost anything you need done for your house and they'll do it for a reasonable price and at the time they said they would do it! It's even nicer that both Lana and Robert are great at responding to emails and texts as s that can make it WAY easier to communicate while you're stuck at work. I would highly recommend having them come out and give you an estimate on your next project. I mean.. now that they've finished all that stuff for us I guess it's ok to let you all know how great they are :)

I talked to Robert for about ten minutes. He didn't want to do quotes on evenings or weekends, but my husband and I both work. He eventually said "my wife will kill me, but I'll do it on an evening." He then said we both have to be there in case my husband and I argue and disagree on the work he does, and he couldn't put himself in a position between married people. That sounded a little weird to me, but he sounded nice otherwise, so I figured I'd give him a shot at the work. The next day, I got a voicemail from his wife canceling our appointment saying that we "weren't a good fit for them." I just wish they'd been honest from the beginning and not wasted my ten minutes writing down every detail of the work I wanted and all my contact information and where I'd heard of them if they were just going to cancel immediately afterward. The whole encounter was weird.
