We stayed 5 days and spent most of that on the private beach, swimming and paddling around the lake on the paddle boat. The weather wasn't great for one of the days so we stayed inside and watched the thunderstorms over the lake (really romantic!), the rest of the time we grilled outside, enjoyed the Dowagiac offerings of a classic drive-in, farmer's markets, and a decent supermarket not far away in town. We really fell in love with this area and we'll be going back to stay at CJ's landing for sure - the quiet space and big lawn was perfect for relaxing and reading and next time we'll bring some fishing gear to enjoy the abundance of fish under the dock in the evenings.

This was, without question, the best Bed & Breakfast experience we've ever had. The property itself is situated right on Lake Michigan on Lake Shore Drive in St. Joseph, and it's been a B&B for several decades. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the view from the deck facing the lake is priceless. However, what makes South Cliff Inn truly spectacular are the owners. You will not find better hosts than Daniel and Allison. Their attention to detail and their personal touch are almost from a different era, and they are singularly focused on providing a memorable experience for every guest. When staying here, it doesn't take long before you realize that nearly every other guest (all week) is a repeat customer. Several of the other guests we met have been coming here for 20+ years, and that speaks volumes. We're already planning our next visit.

A week before our stay, we received another email letting us know that she had ants. Yuck. After that email, we called to request a cancellation in which Kara hung up on us. Hm. We contacted the third-party that we booked our reservation to help us cancel, but were informed that only Kara could cancel and she was refusing to do so. After contacting her again and trying to cancel, she hung up on us again and told us were were silly to be worrying about ants. We couldn't believe that we still had to stay here, but didn't want to forfeit our $450 for the weekend and felt obliged to stay there. When we showed up to check in, the door was locked. Strange, but OK since it's a small place. After knocking for a few minutes, we called Kara several times to no answer. We then texted her, and nothing. After waiting for almost an hour in the rain, we decided to call our credit card company to dispute the charge, then booked at another hotel in the same area. Thankfully, our credit card company refunded the charge but warning to other travelers- find somewhere else!

This Home has a great location on Jimmerson Lake connected to the Lake James Chain, with 120 feet of frontage, close to Four Corners, and Margaritas and you can practically smell Tom's Donuts, they are so close. has large area for parking, and you walk into our home on the second floor. All the bedrooms are upstairs (street level) with a full bath with a tub and the washer and dryer. The interior is all professionally decorated and beautiful, but nothing compares when you can be outside on the deck! They have a HUGE multi-level deck with lots of seating and a fire pit for those bonfires and a Gazebo that has the best views. Down near the lake there is a large shed that has yard games and water skis as well as a day bed and trundle. You could put overflow people down there (usually the kids love it!. They have space for two boats to tie up to the dock and you are within minutes of boat rentals and a lake gas station.

It definitely had the original charm of the home. But, it also has great modern conveniences such as an Apple TV, USB wall chargers and a pretty amazing shower. Entrance to the house, and your room, is by a personal code. Again, super cool:) There are towels aplenty and the bath robes are made from the worlds softest material. The house is located on a very quiet street which makes relaxing so easy. Do yourself a favor and take a walk around the neighborhood. The charm in the surrounding houses sends you back in time. It's a short 5 minute walk to downtown or to the beach. Breakfasts were amazing! On day 1, we had homemade stuffed cinnamon swirl french toast, fruit and yogurt parfait, an egg souffle and organic sausage. Day 2 was homemade cinnamon rolls, bacon and a caramelized apple, pecan and brie omelette. Whenever Andy wants to cook for you, just say yes because it's going to be heavenly! It was so nice sitting with Andy and the other couple for some fun and informative conversation. Josh and I stayed in the beautiful Lake Placid room. Our friends stayed in the spectacular St. Moritz room. Our hosts were so gracious and accommodating (my friend and I both have Celiac Disease and Judine worked with us to keep our food safe for us - I brought most of my meals). Traveling can be difficult with food sensitivities but it was so comfortable staying there. We had never seen the town in South Haven before and we can't wait to make plans for another visit!
