This review is for Acorn Kottage: We decided to try this unit because it had received great reviews online, and were looking for an alterntive to a hotel. Good things about the apartment: It's nicely decorated, and provides some amenities people might like. In the kitchen, there's food you can prepare for breakfast, coffee, juice, etc. There's lots of dishes, pans and utensils. Lots of towels in the bathroom, q-tips, cotton balls, medicines, hand lotion, etc. The bed is comfortable with good pillows. But, here's the problems we had. 1- The heating system is NOISY! There's a rattle, and then LOUD whooshes of air coming through. This kept waking me up throughout the night. And then, when it stopped, the fridge started going. Ear plugs didn't help. Even my husband who's a pretty good sleeper was bothered by this. 2- The bathroom is small and awkward. There's just sink space to put down your toiletries. I'm a normal sized person, and I found the shower to be quite tight, and the temperature of the water was hard to adjust. Also, the shower liner had mildew on it. There were some stains on the walls by the wall hooks, so I didn't want to hang anything there. We had to dry our towels on the hooks by the entrance down stairs. 3- The kitchen is galley style and small with minimal counter space. So, if you want to make coffee. You have to take the coffee maker out from the cabinet, and use it. Same with the toaster. You also have to take out the dish drying rack from underneath the sink to use it. The sponge by the sink was gross. I didn't see a replacement. We didn't bother cooking. I didn't trust the water in the pitcher in the fridge. The tap water tasted better. 4- You can hear the people below us clearly. We heard the woman say that she hadn't slept well. Yeah, we know why. 5- The living room has a comfortable couch. I know because I tried to sleep there for a while so as not to bother the hubby with my tossing and turning. But it's a cozy living room with a small dining table for two chairs. Meaning you can't really have a third person there. If you were to pull out the roll away bed, there wouldn't be any room, and we would all be bumping into each other all the time. 6- My husband complained of the apartment being smelly. It did have a certain odor to it, but I used the room spray that was in the bathroom. I noticed on the second day that the smell of food from downstairs comes into the bathroom. I was so very tired by the end of our stay there. My husband was so unhappy that he doesn't even want to try the other units. So, it's back to the hotel when we visit.

Just fantastic. I was searching for options for 5 of us while in Kalamazoo and needed two bedrooms. The Driftwood Cottage was beautiful, with lots of nice touches and thoughtful details. There were a variety of DVDs and games to keep the kids and grandma happy while we were out brewery hopping. The patio was lovely. The beds were so comfortable and a lovely breeze kept us comfortable all night. Loved the fully stocked fridge for our family breakfast. I woke up to the smell of sausage! We are returning next summer, as our kids want to return to AirZoo. This will be our choice for lodging....and maybe for two nights next time!

What a fantastic place to stay... Cosy comfort on the inside full kitchen... Living room area... Comfortable beds... And if you don't want to stay inside slide outside to the back patio area barbeque some steaks ... Sit at the table with some friends have a few drinks and when evening turns too night walk over to the fire pit sit yourself down in one of the Muskoka chairs and enjoy the rest your evening... Close to everything in Kalamazoo... I will definitely return

Fully stocked bathroom, the only palce where it falls short! Tub rocks back and forth/unevenalmost fell getting out. And low watter pressure

Chris assisted us with our luggage. Dana fixed wonderful breakfasts and accommodated my food sensitivities. We enjoyed it so much that we booked an additional night at the end of our trip before flying out of Grand Rapids the following day. The home has very nice common areas and both rooms we stayed in were clean and had amenities like refrigerators, microwaves and keurig machines. There is good off-street parking in back of the home. They were both helpful in answering our travel questions as well. We would love to stay here again on our next visit!

Dining Experience The culinary experience was top-notch, and the staff delivered attentive, professional service. Breakfast - free for hotel customers! The tower presentation was a bold and elegant touch--unique and memorable. The selection was fresh and flavorful, setting the tone for the day. Also Mimosas!! I wish the coffee cup was bigger, but everything was smaller back then. :) Murder Mystery Dinner An outstanding experience. The salmon and pork were exceptional, and the dessert was phenomenal. I almost forgot about the soup and side salad! The murder mystery was also fun. Friendly for first time people and those who are on their second or third event! Service & Atmosphere The staff was professional, courteous, and genuinely welcoming. Every interaction reflected a commitment to quality and hospitality. The castle itself blends history and sophistication seamlessly, creating an environment that feels both grand and inviting. Final Thoughts Henderson Castle is a standout destination in Kalamazoo Michigan--a place where history, craftsmanship, and exceptional service come together. SLEEP INN & SUITES for a while now... and it's lovely!…read more This is my easy-peasy go-to in the area. It's clean and cute and quiet! And incredibly reasonably priced! Doing local contractor work, I am not in the hotel much at all, and I have to pay my own travel expenses: so, can't think of anything that could meet my needs better. Again: cute, clean and comfortable! the shower water is hot and the water pressure is strong. The beds are supportive, quiet and comfortable. Lots of fluffy pillows. Soft linens. For a bonus, breakfast fits the bill: an array of choices, including hot eggs, and maple sausage. Always yogurt, peanut butter, and bakery items. Hot coffee, all easy to grab. AND The staff is friendly - not bored, aloof or rude - and accommodating. One night I had obnoxious neighbors that kept me up (and didn't respond to my knocks on the wall to shut up!) - so during my next visit, the receptionists remembered and gave me an upgrade in the quietest area. Heaven! Seriously, I sound like a paid promotion but it's not! I think I've stayed here 6 or 7 times in the last six months and I feel thankful to have found it because it makes a business trip more relaxing to know where you're going to stay and know it's going to be a pleasant experience. Overall the facilities were super nice, including the ballroom on the first floor, the ballroom on the basement level where we had meals, and the hotel itself. I parked in the parking structure across the street both days, it was expensive ($2-$2.75 per hour) but the *heated* skywalk from the structure to the hotel was super nice. My only tiny complaint is that the ballroom on the first floor was a bit cold - I didn't notice it as much yesterday, but today I'm wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt and no sweater and I'm cold. (May go retrieve my coat from the coat check!) Fun story, I also stayed at this hotel about 20 years ago when I took the test for the WMU medallion scholarship (circa late 2004/early 2005, I believe) and I remember thinking the rooms were nice then, too. The hotel is currently undergoing some renovations also, I believe their restaurant is under construction but there's still a restaurant option open. Overall I really liked this hotel, at least for a conference, and would return.
