I wasn't going to write a long post about my experience here, as most of the other guests attending my friends' wedding covered a lot of the details, however, the owner of this establishment is getting greasier and greasier by the day so I feel the need to let the world know how I feel.
I attended the wedding of my good friends and coworkers on July 6th at the Henderson Castle. I was already dreading what this place had in store for my friends due to all of the stories they had told me for months in advance during the planning of the wedding. The biggest issue being that the owner is clearly a pain to work for and work with because the event coordinator quit months before the wedding (though she was very apologetic and willing to help the couple as much as possible). Also, many things that they had been promised before they had given the castle thousands and thousands of dollars had soon be added to the bill after the contract had been signed.
Fast forward to the day of the event. Unfortunately for the outdoor wedding, it had been raining on and off for a couple hours before the service (obviously nobody's fault). The wedding service had been pushed back aout 45 minutes to wait for the rain to clear, so they had announced that a tiny cave across the yard from the castle was open to serve drinks while we waited. We walked over in the rain and grabbed drinks. Before I took a drink of my beer, I realize that there are little black speckles floating on the foam and in the entire beer as well (most likely from a dirty pump tapper), so needless to say, I threw it out. When it was time to get everyone seated, the ushers had to track down towels to wipe down the chairs because the castle staff was not to be bothered with this task. As soon as everyone was seated and the groom and wedding party started walking out, it started pouring (again, clearly no one's fault), but the staff could not provide the bride or groom with an umbrella because "they had given them all out". Although it poured throughout the whole service, everyone made the best of things and still celebrated the couple with smiles on our faces.
Now onto the beginning out the nightmare. After the service, everyone was released back down to the small, HOT cave for drinks. In the cave, there are 2 bartenders that could not pour a beer to save their life. In an attempt to make the warm beer pour better (because they had not put the kegs on ice), they decided to make matters worse and pump the kegs until they couldn't possibly pump them anymore (causing there to be too much pressure). After the "cocktail hour", everyone had been sat at tables for dinner. The tables were set very nicely, however, the water glasses at everyone's seat, were never filled. Keeping in mind that the wedding service had been pushed back almost an hour, you would think that the kitchen staff would've had plenty of time to prepare and transport the food to the hot wells before anyone even made it to their seats, although, it was actually the opposite situation. The food was delivered so much later, that I couldn't even imagine what would've happened had the wedding been on schedule. Due to the fact that the staff had disregarded the bride and groom's wishes to have the bar set up on the opposite side of the food, they had to close the bar down for almost an hour while all 150 people dished their plates. Clearly meaning, we sat for quite some time with no drinks (or even the water that had not been served). Noticing how slow everything was moving, the bridesmaids took it upon themselves to deliver all the guests salads, dressing, and rolls to keep everyone happy since there clearly was not enough staff to handle this. By the time my table mates and I made it up to the buffett, half of the food options had been depleted and were obviously not going to be replenished. After dinner, they had announced that the bar was open again and once I had made it back up to grab another round of drinks, the bartenders were obviously drunk and could not remember the 3 drinks that I had ordered. Since the beers had been pouring foamy like I previously mentioned, the bartenders had been filling pitchers that were unlabeled, and I had been served multiple beers that were clearly mixed with different beers.
There are many more issues that had occured throughout the night for the bride, groom, and guests that had stayed, however, I did not experience these because I had left to change out of my wet, soggy clothes.
Beware of this venue and it's owner. He has decided to spend his time making fake google accounts, posting fake positive reviews, clearly telling friends and staff to post fake reviews, and threatening my friends to take them to court if they don't take down their negative reviews. read more
