We had a rental house around the corner and it delighted me to have a little dessert and snack shop nearby. It's a walk up window specializing in soft serve treats like cones, sundaes, flurries, shakes and malts. The ice cream is smooth and dreamy! I had the turtle sundae and it was divine! My mom went for a soft serve with strawberries and we were impressed that it was chunks of fresh strawberries, not a fake syrup. My husband went with an orange float and it was made with local Northwoods soda. It was all so good! They also have a menu of savory snacks like soft pretzels, nachos, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and sloppy joes. We kept talking about stopping by for a pretzel but it didn't work out so I can't speak much to their savory offerings, unfortunately. The stand itself is adjacent to the GT Butterfly House & Bug Zoo and, upon looking the place up online, I learned that Kettlewell's is the name of a groundbreaking moth researcher and that's the kind of nerdy trivia that I live for. They had a great selection of sandwiches (yes and hot dogs!) and and 8 flavors of hard packed ice cream PLUS malts, shakes, sundaes and floats. We had a couple of sandwiches and ice cream at lunch and the next night went back for ice cream and shakes. The malts and shakes were outstanding. What made this an outstanding experience both times was the amazing staff. Both times we visited there was a crew of young men running the place. They were as nice as they were efficient. Plus it looked like they were having fun. Made us smile and think of summer jobs in our youth.

It was a bit of a wait, but honestly, we didn't mind too much because they had the cutest merchandise to browse through while we waited. The shop itself has such a charming, cozy feel that makes you want to hang out and take everything in. I ended up ordering a cappuccino, and WOW, it was actually so good! The espresso flavor was spot-on, and it was the perfect little pick-me-up to start our day. Between the great coffee, adorable atmosphere, friendly service, and unexpected Panther Coffee connection, this place definitely left a great impression on me.
