Guilty! I always come in here for one or two things but leave with thirty or more. I feel like this is a Costco type educational supply store. I always receive great, friendly service. Whenever I have had questions that were tougher ones to answer, I know I can work with the associates to either look on line for something that would be helpful to me or we look for items that are similar that would help to create the item I need. As a public school teacher, I've never minded paying for some things for my classroom, especially when it makes my life and regiment so much easier. I know things are so over priced and that I could probably make a lot more than I have been but at the same time, paying for the convenience is saving me so much more time and effort. I do go to the dollar store as well for certain things that I can get there for a lot less but Lakeshore has a lot of specialized items that can help you to assess your students' most effective modalities of learning. And if you ask me, that's worth the bit more money. I wish there were a location a bit closer to me but I'm glad that there is one sorta near me at all. I cannot wait to begin shopping for some enrichment activities for my lil one. I have so many ideas of how to create a small positive learning environment, workshop like area for her at home. I know Lakeshore has my back, too, when it comes to needing certain toys and activities that will help children to further develop fine and gross motor skills, and other skills as well. I hope it'll be a while before I return but again, I'm more than happy to spend on tools that will make THAT much a difference in a student's level of learning and achievement. Ugh this place...I want everything in here!! But its all very expensive and overpriced to get everything!! I wish they had a bigger fine motor/ letter recognition selection. I like their other location better I think it was in Carson? They have a warehouse full of discounted merchandise that are discontinued or either damaged. But regardless, I love how you can find some goodies that are hard to find elsewhere. Don't forget there's always coupons for this place!! Very pricey. How can you charge teachers so much for classroom necessities? We're broke teachers! They're good if you need something right away, otherwise I can always find everything they carry online by doing a google search or visiting another local teacher store. Very small compared to all other non-chain teacher stores. Positive: they have a rewards program for teachers, so you get frequent coupons...still pricey items even with the coupons though! read more

I'm giving a four star only because it's hard to tell what's on sale and what isn't. This place is a giant toy store for teachers. I buy mostly all of my classroom supplies here. The quality of the products is excellent, though a little pricey. Staff is always available to help and they even have a laminating machine! (Every teacher's dream). You can find thinks at Lakeshore that no one else carries. It is still my go to school supply store. read more

Although they offer great educational products they are just too freakin' expensive. I know, a majority of the products they have here you may not find anywhere else but for things like books, containers, crafts, puzzles, and several others I check other stores first (namely, Target, 99Cents Store, Ross, etc). wow, this place is great. But make sure you empty your pockets. This place is pricey. This place is right off Foothill and with a private lot. Once you walk in, the place is stocked with great school stuff, art materials, toys, books, games, and stickers. The store has items from pre-K to elementary. The place is clean and well stocked. I used to come here to get workbooks for my class. Now, I come here to get stickers for my students. They have a good supply of workbooks and test prep materials, as well as other learning toys. I like the variety in this place. However, the service is not the best. The times I've been here, there is usually a short line of maybe 3 customers. The cashiers are pretty slow and the line doesn't seem to move. I guess maybe they're just not used to lines here or something. Also, they don't seem to notice the line, as they go about taking their time. I would recommend this place if you're looking for educational materials, but be prepared to wait if there is a line. read more

I live in DTLA and wish they had a location closer! It was worth the trip, especially since it was a special craft day and my daughter had so much fun! There's so many great learning toys and tools. I was very disappointed with Lakeshore. The prices were far too high, especially for underpaid teachers who are more than likely paying for the items themselves. The actual quality of the merchandise was good. There were only two items that were not puppets or figurines that included people of color. When part of your logo features an African American girl, you should carry more anti-bias products. I spent $55 on three items. read more

this is not just a store for teachers... I go here alot to shop for my kids. It's a great place to buy other people's kids presents. They have a great variety of educational tools that ranges from exercis books to games to hands on tools. You determine what your child learns best- informational or tactile etc...and they have the variety for you. I also love their Saturday workshops for kids. Overpriced. Educational. Materials. The Lakeshore chain pretty much dominates the educational resources market. I'm always amazed when I speak to a non-educator and they have never heard of this place. Avoid if you can; it's a trap. You can easily get sucked in to buying things (particularly if you work with kids in some capacity) that you absolutely have NO need for. They have everything any K-5 teacher could ever need when it comes to "cutesying" up your classroom. Lakeshore may or may not be a necessary evil in the life of an elementary or middle school teacher...it's entirely dependent on how much you like to spruce things up. Before the advent of Lakeshore, great minds of centuries and decades prior have provided evidence you don't need cute and colorful items to absorb and apply information. Remember the rather neutral-looking school house on Little House on the Prairie? Although I have done what I can to minimize my trips here during the school year, sometimes I need sentence strips or a pocket chart or a bit fat WELCOME sign in a pinch. If you are an educator, parent, or work in some related field, and haven't been able to cut the Lakeshore cord, here are some tips that can shave a few $ off the exorbitant prices: 1) Save your purchases for the 20% sales (usually at the beginning, middle and end of the school year). Usually the 20% is only on classroom decor and storage items. 2) Sign up for the text messages...seriously. This is coming from someone who desperately avoids mailing lists. However the Lakeshore texts are seriously worth it. About every 2 weeks you'll get a new text message with a promotional code you can use to get a certain percentage off. You can always unsubscribe if you don't like them. 3) Get the emails. Usually they have in store coupons attached to them. 4) AVOID purchasing items on the Lakeshore website. If you do, you will have to pay for shipping if the item(s) is/are under $50. You can avoid this by going to a store location, asking them to order an item for you, then have it shipped to the store to pick it up there. 5) Check out Dollar Tree...if you haven't yet, you'd be surprised at all the Lakeshore-type classroom accents they have at a fraction of the price. 6) Check out the Lakeshore "outlet" in Carson. However, don't expect "outlet" prices. Items are still sold at 75-85% of the original price and often are damaged or have missing components. It may be worth a look though depending on what you're looking for. read more

The store is wonderful for educational toys and books and teacher items for the classroom. I use them mainly for toys and workbooks to supplement my children's school work. I was trying to find a deal on Magni-tiles and was able to use a 20% off coupon to bring the cost down lower than I could get on amazon and other competing websites. I would say that overall the cost for items is a bit higher than online but if you sign up for the coupon discounts via email and/or the teacher club program ( I am not a teacher and was able to sign up) you will come out ahead and find everything you need in one place. read more

This place is awesome! I have never been in one of these stores before but I happened to stop by since my niece and nephew wanted to buy some learning supplies. This store has everything you need from math and science to just fun toys to play with, but everything teaches children something. They also have this deal going on, just text Lakeshore16 to 89479 to get coupon notifications and you receive a free tote bag. They also have a rewards type card. I wished I would have had a store like this when I was growing up, I was playing with the toys like I was a kid! This is the only Lakeshore location I have been to and it is great for teachers or parents of lower elementary school students. I am always able to get what is needed for my daughter or her class and am also a fan of picking up games or books for birthday presents. They also offer people colors which are really neat crayon and color pencil sets they have different shades of peach, tan, brown so it is not just the limited offerings from Crayola in terms of people colors. Customer service is always top notch and the location (including the restroom) is always well kept and clean. read more

The shopkeeper was rude as I mixed up the Cyber Monday deal has expired yesterday. I spent more than one hour to shop for my kids' stuff as I thought I can save a lot of with that 30% off coupon. With a 30% off and without a 30% off which made a big difference to a shopper. Anyway, I paid all at regular price. And then, I realized the shopping bag has a coupon for 20% off. Not just a store for teachers...great place to shop for your kids or for other people's kids (birthday presents). Lakeshore has a terrific selection of educational games, materials, books, and more. Some of it is kinda pricey, but the quality is always good and I think that educational stuff is worth the $$. The store and their website it very well organized, all items are categorized by age and grade level. My only complaint is that there aren't more locations in L.A., especially closer to the Valley. Like I said, great place to find gifts and projects to do with the kids over the summer break, or as reinforcement for what they are currently being taught in the classroom. read more

Expensive as u know what, but it has nice pretty stuff. I only go there when I know my school won't give me those particular items. It's the closest Lakeshore to where I live. The employees are nice. The parking lot is small, which is bad around back to school time. Nice products but to rich for my blood. Not many items for upper grade elementary, which is fine. read more

Maggie at Lakeshore was awesome. She was so helpful. First off I love this store and I'm not a teacher. But I laminate, Maggie came over and gave me a quick tutorial, and they have two machines and they charge $0.39 a foot for members (membership is free) and $0.49 for non-members. The store is overcrowded with duplicative merchandise. The prices are high for what they are selling (but in fairness, it's some of the product lines that are pricey such as Melissa and Doug relative to the value of the toy). I could overlook all of this. However, the sales staff ranged from oblivious to rude. While trying to shop with my 20 mo old in tow, just corraling him while I looked was hard enough. Two separate salespeople either stepped over us or knocked into us multiple times in the same small corner of the store. I was not asked if I needed anything. I was just clearly in their way as the NEEDED to restock the one particular shelf I was shopping from RIGHT THEN. And for me, service key. If I'm buying at a brick and mortar, then I am going for the service in addition to the products. If you don't provide the service, no problem. I will just complete my showrooming and head home to source the products for a better price online. With my free shipping from Amazon, I always come out ahead. read more
