Iunch specials
Julie F.

We had a filling lunch here at this small neighborhood pizza restaurant-- and even took some of our food home. They had several lunch specials. We chose two of them and shared. One lunch was two pizza slices with one-topping and a soda. We got mushrooms -- they're real/fresh, i.e., not canned -- and selected a soda from the cooler. The pizza was okay. I'm a New Haven pizza gal, so it's not easy to meet my expectations. The other lunch special was "mini pasta". We got the spaghetti and meatball. It was one meatball in tomato sauce over spaghetti. I liked that the pasta wasn't mushy. The pasta came with two garlic rolls. We brought the rolls home. Service was timely from when we ordered. They do a lot of takeout, but we decided to eat in. You order and pay at the window. Along the wall is a counter with 4 stools. In the other room are three tables and one high top table. They have seasonings on the tables -- red pepper flakes, Parmesan cheese, oregano, garlic, and salt and pepper. I'm glad we came to check them them out and have lunch.

Pizza- delish perfectly cooked, cheese not too stringy, crust not too toasted, basically perfect in proportion to seasoning and sauce. Gentleman were very kind and quick. Pizza is reasonably priced. Chill environment. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu out.

Sub lunch special. Bread is soft meat is fresh and tastes great

Love coming here for lunch, the owner and family always make me feel welcome. Their lunch specials are good and hit the spot. Give them a visit and you'll be back for more.

Everyone was super friendly from the moment we walked in. It's a small place with about 6 places to sit or stand. I'm assuming they do a lot of take out and/or delivery. The parking lot is very small. We have passed this spot for 4 years now and decided to give it a try. They have lunch specials for under $6. I opted for the salad and slice and my boyfriend got 2 pepperoni slices and a soda. The pizza was thin crusted with a good sauce and perfect amount of cheese (and in his case pepperoni) on it. The staff was very nice and they've been in business for 30 years. They sold the business last year, took a one year hiatus, but realized they missed it and are back. They have a 5 mile delivery radius and we are actually 6 miles away and he said no problem! This will now be our go to when we need yummy pizza delivered!

Compare this sauce with my other pic. This is pale in color and not savory, but kinda sweet.

I think perhaps this place changed hands? Not sure. But the sauce and the garlic rolls have definitely moved way down in my book. The pizza is still pretty good and probably one of the better choices in the area. So I would recommend for a decent quick pizza. But yeah, the sauce went from "wow" how did they know how to make real sauce to "tastes like store bought".

I ordered the turkey with brie on the walnut bread with an iced Matcha latte with strawberry and my Girlfriend order the turkey avocado club. I was tempted to get a slice of pie. The bread was toasted to perfection for me. My girlfriend found it a little over toasted, but again that's just a preference. The iced Matcha latte was really good and flavorful. I found the sandwiches to be really good and it was just enough to fill us up and the sauces that they use really hit the spot. The only thing I would say would be the sides that they had which was the orzo and the zucchini salad they need a little bit more flavor a little salt and pepper can go a long way. Overall, this is a place that you can pick up some fresh bread, some pastries or just sit and enjoy a good breakfast with your friends or loved one. We would definitely recommend

Line out the door and bread coming and sweets coming out of the oven. We went with the Thai Bean soup, so delicious and creamy Top soup I have had in some time. My sandwich was the grilled Italian OH My! Nitrate free proschutto, salami, ham, oven rosted tomato, garlic aioli on ciabatta. I could have this sandwich every week! I really enjoyed this delicious sandwich. My wife and friends had the Turkey and brie with a cranberry aioli, arugula on a raisin walnut bread. It was also delicious. Now I understand why the long lines for this fresh bread and sweets baked daily. A must to go back. We meet Melanie the owner who told us her husband Michael was the brain child behind the recipes and Chef. For Dessert we had the Bluberry pie and an expresso chocolate pie. The blueberry had a hint of ginger which gave it a unique sweet flavor. order online, or stop in for the que. I will be back soon to try something new!

I was pleasantly surprised that the terrible smell that had smacked me on the face upon opening the entrance door was finally gone. The hostess sat us at a table and took our drink order. I was delighted with the look of my plate when it arrived. Pastrami looked and tasted absolutely perfect on the light and fluffy croissant. I even got a side of Russian dressing to add a hint of spice to everything. Toojays has certainly redeemed themselves in my eyes and I look forward to my next visit.

I decided to get matzah ball soup and half a corned beef sandwich on rye. The soup was very good. And it was served first, and was hot in a small bowl. My husband really liked his beef cabbage soup, too. My sandwich, however, was awful. The bread was decent, but the meat tasted so processed -- like baloney. After we pointed it out, the manager told me it had been cut wrong (with the grain). He cut some more corned beef "correctly" and brought it back. It still wasn't very good. Slightly better, but I told my husband it could have been canned ham. The manager said they changed suppliers a few years back. I think they need to change again. My husband's chopped liver was a much better choice. It came with lettuce and tomato. Oh, and of the sides, I liked the red bliss potato salad better than their coleslaw -- which had a lot of mayo in it. Bottom line -- come for breakfast or deli, but skip the corned beef.

The sub size choice is 8" or 12" and they have a few salad choices too. I wasn't sure if you could do any of the sub choices as a salad, as they only have 3 salads listed on the menu. The help behind the counter was nice and somewhat patient as they were super busy fulfilling the online orders, and they were focused on sandwich prep, so if you are not ready to order, don't get in the order line. We figured out what we wanted and after we placed our order, the subs were made in under 5 minutes. I ordered an 8" Cubano which was not served on true Cuban bread so the flavor and texture were a little different. They also don't have a hot sauce except buffalo wing sauce for a little heat on the subs. It was a good sub but I wouldn't order it again in the future. My husband ordered the 8" Americano and he was very impressed with the bread choice and the freshness of the ingredients. They had some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on the counter for dessert, and the beverage choice was either canned or bottled beverages. No soda fountain. They have a few tables for eating inside but most patrons seemed to take theirs to go. There was a steady flow of patrons ordering their lunch and to not have much of a wait, I recommend picking up your order before the noon hour. I overheard one of the employees say something about new ownership but everything seemed to work smoothly on the day I was there for lunch.
