It is very conveniently located for tourists as well as parents dropping off their kids at Hope College, just a four minute walk away. The inn had an excellent continental style all-day breakfast, with delicious, freshly baked bread eacg morning, and about 20-25 toppings available in small refrigerated jars. There were many, many vegan and vegetarian options, and the owner told us that they're also careful about accounting for people's allergies. It was a treat to be able to come downstairs late in the night and snack on some Nutella and toast! The common areas were elegantly furnished, with plenty of plants and a cohesive, warm colour scheme. There were so many cute nooks that I just wanted to spend all my time reading indoors. We stayed in the "Audrey," which was well-furnished with a couple of chairs, a dresser and mirror, TV, nightstand, and a queen bed. The mattress was comfortable though the pillows were a little high. There was an en-suite bathroom with a shower but no tub. Rob was a very responsive and hospitable host. There were no issues with cleanliness or comfort. I highly recommend staying at the Centennial Inn if you are ever in Holland. You are sure to love it as much as we did!

I stayed here over memorial day weekend 2025, and though I was a bit late for Holland's famous Tulip Time, there were still a few tulips sprinkled around the property. This place was like a big gorgeous house, which makes sense for a bed and breakfast. It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and I'd recommend this experience entirely and would like to stay again if I have the chance. There's a couple spacious sitting areas that encourage mingling with other guests but you also have some privacy if you prefer to keep to yourself. The owners are a family, with main ownership from a mother and son, and it feels like there is a great sense of pride with ownership and operation of the inn. They help the space like you're staying with extended family in a way. There are maybe 7-8 different rooms on the property of different sizes. I believe they have a couple larger rooms in a guest house that's just across from the house main entrance. My partner and I had a smaller room in the main house called "The Audrey"with one queen bed on the second floor. It was just the right amount of space for the two of us. The rooms are seemingly spaced out enough so that you only hear others when they pass by your door. All the doors have a lock with a key. Each room has a bathroom attached to it that comes with towels and shampoo/conditioner in pump bottles in the shower. Our room also had a nicely sized TV, where we watched the Indy 500 (this is ironic considering that we were visiting from Indy!) For a bed and breakfast, you have access to some foodstuffs throughout the entire day. They have large fridges that have jams, meats, cheeses, and breads that are kept up to stock throughout the day, so the owners said that folks will often have lunch at the inn. They also have fruit, yogurt, and homemade granola. Coffee and tea can be readily made throughout the day as well. Overall, the inn common areas are kept very clean. Like I said before, I would absolutely jump at the chance to stay here again, especially during Tulip Time. You are just steps away from a beautiful park and a couple blocks away from restaurants on one of the main avenues. I hope that the next time I make my way up to Holland, a room will be available for Tulip Time. I'd even book it years in advance if I had to. Disclaimer: some of the hallways are a little narrow, but that's just part of the older house experience. This location also pretty much requires the use of some steps to move about. I would not consider this inn to be disability friendly, but that's also just older building experience. This is a truly neutral point from me that does not impact the status of this review.

It was fine, but I would suggest a couple of things: the bathtub had nothing on its floor and no texture so it was very slippery! Also, the furnishings are very dated and need to be replaced. The one bedroom had a king bed and a full bed in it so there was very little floor space. A sofabed would work much better. My daughter and her family stayed in the suite next door and the exterior door frame had alot of peeling paint (not great for little kids!) The pool was great and it had a hot tub which was nice to have in the cool evenings. The entrance to the place needs a light. At night you can't see it! All in all, I would give it a 3.5-4.

The house is divided into 3 different guest suites, but a large family could rent out the entire down stairs. There's also a driveway that has space for 3 cars (1 car per party). We had 2 cars, but had no problem finding parking across the street. We stayed in the Aftdeck suite, and it was spacious, and very clean. There was a king sized bed, and a pull out. There was enough room in the bedroom for an air mattress. The best part of this cottage is the proximity to the town. You are a short walk from everything. The Innkeeper was also very nice. My only complaints are there is no towel service, so you have to use the same towel all days you are there, or wash them yourself. And, it's an old house, so if your neighbors are loud, you can hear everything. This was only an issue the first night we were there. The next days the people next door were very pleasant, and abided by the "quiet time" rule that was in the handbook at the cottage. Quiet time is 11PM. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone! We will be going back next year!

It appears that it was recently remodeled as everything looks to be rather new. Everything you need is provided, dishes, silverware, coffee maker they even had beach towels if you forget yours. It's nice having a small kitchen so you can cook a meal if you don't want to eat out all the time. Upon arrival there is a basket of snacks and the fridge is stocked with cold drinks. The Cottage is situated close enough so you can walk to the shops and restaurants or walk along the water. We chose to drive to the beach because of all the gear we had to bring. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to spend a few days I would definitely recommend this place.

It was instantly clear why it had been a challenge to find two nights lodging here...this was THE place in Michigan to be for the summer. Generations of families have been flocking here for years to spend a good portion of their summer. My persistant investigating for accommodations paid off...I discovered a gem in Serendipity Resort. (A sure sign that my daughter had acclimated to hostels was her non-chalant reply to my announcement that this place came with a pool..."Is it a blow up pool?" Nope! No beer-guzzling boyman-filled blow up pool this time...but, an "exotic lagoon-shaped pool" complete with a hammock on which I owned for at least 3 hours of our stay here!) Serendipity Resort is a clustering of cottages just a couple blocks off "Main Street, USA". We stayed in Suite L5 in the Lillie House, a quaint three-story grey and white clapboard house. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and a her happy college student crew. After we lugged our way-too-heavy bags up two levels of creaky wooden stairs to the top floor, we ducked into our room. My smile instantly disappeared...I was disappointed. Why must we only stay two nights here??? It felt like we had just climbed into a boat...(except, thank God, it wasn't moving). Every vertical wall and slanted ceiling was lined with richly stained wood planks. It was adorable! Compact, but loaded with charm...in addition to two twin beds, a TV, a quiet reading (or napping) nook, a tiny updated bathroom, and a functional boat-sized kitchen. The staff here was so friendly, they helped me do laundry and didn't charge me a penny. Definitely the place to come for old fashioned small town charm. All for a very reasonable price. Other than our short stay, I was only disappointed we never saw Opie.

We were slightly concerned when we decided to stay at the Valentine Lodge. We read several reviews…read morethat were not good at all. It's hard to say with anything regarding on-line reviews though because for every negative review you will undoubtedly find a couple positive reviews. After searching online for hotels and then B&Bs in the Saugatuck/Douglas area we were nearly scared off by the high costs of other chains and B&Bs. Then we found the Valentine Lodge. We almost couldn't believe the listed cost because of the comparables. We booked the room online and then called and spoke with the owner. From the start they were very nice people and assisted with our questions. If you are looking for the Ritz, Raddison or some other other high end chic hotel, this is not it! Go ahead stay at one of those and pay quadruple the cost for a room. If you are looking for a decent room, friendly staff and a place close to town this is a great bet for you. We arrived on a Friday afternoon to stay through Sunday and couldn't help be impressed by the size of the house. Think old world charm of a southern style mansion with a beautiful front porch on the first and second floor facing the street. The grounds were immense and well kept. We met the owner and she graciously explained their rooms, policies and assisted with the area. As we made our way up the grand staircase we were a bit awestruck buy the decor and size of the home. Yes there are a lot of paintings as she is an artist. I thought they were pretty and added to the charm of the place. We found our room on the third floor and got a bit settled in. My ONE complaint of the room was the hard bed. It didn't bother me a ton but my girlfriend wasn't thrilled. The bathroom was clean, the bedroom was clean and the decor was dated but fine. Again if you're going to pick a bed and breakfast apart for older decor you should probably be staying at a high end hotel. We enjoyed the free wifi and charm of the place. We were out late and had no problems getting in and heading to bed. The next morning we headed down for the breakfast. Everything was clean and well prepared. It looked like it may have been a family affair with everyone pitching in. The egg dish was not marked with it's ingredients, (as one reviewer lamented) I didn't care, it was delicious! There was fresh fruit, hash browns, an egg scramble, juice, water and appropriate condiments. They provide trays if you wish to eat outside on the front or back porch or even on the second floor enclosed porch. We opted for the second floor. Upon return to the kitchen area they were cleaning and making sure the guests were taken care of. From the moment we checked in until we left on Sunday the owner was friendly and helpful. It's obvious that her and some of her family live in the home because they are at your beck and call for all intensive purposes. We had a great experience at the Valentine Lodge bed and breakfast and would definitely suggest it to others. Again if B&B's aren't your thing and you expect high class amenities go to a high end place. We would definitely stay here again.

On walking up to the place, it looked very cozy, warm, and inviting. The couple who own the B&B are super nice, very helpful, and just adorable. We stayed in the Valentina Room, which is on the second floor, first door on the left. It was actually bigger than I expected and had a large king size bed. We were very comfortable there. The house itself is charming, and the walls are decorated with oil paintings done by one of the family members. There are two very large decks - one in front of the house on the ground floor and the other is a large screened in porch in the front of the house on the second floor. We used both during our stay using the main floor one to eat breakfast and the second floor one to relax, drink tea, and read books/magazines before bed. This B&B is located in Douglas, which is just a short five minute drive from downtown Saugatuck. I was glad to be a little out of town, as it was always peaceful and quiet at Valentine Lodge. There was free wi fi (we never used it), wine glasses, a corkscrew, a mini fridge, and a mini coffee pot in our room, on demand tea on the porch, and board games and books to use throughout the house. Oh, and the breakfasts were just delicious. On Sunday morning, there was toast, yogurt, three kinds of quiche, blueberry cake, fruit salad, and of course coffee and orange juice. On Monday morning, we were the only guests at the B&B and we were asked what time we wanted breakfast and were told she would make it for us whenever we wanted. That breakfast was lovely too and consisted of bagels, toast, scrambled eggs, fruit salad, yogurt, coffee, and orange juice. It was ready the moment we walked down the stairs. I highly recommend this wonderful B&B. It would be a shame to miss it.

It was just an awesome place to stay. Tony and Michelle were born to do this. From the moment we walked in the door, it was clear that this was going to be a great weekend. They both know how to walk that thin line between being ultra-professional and being so welcoming as to feel like long lost friends. Tony and I talked several times the day of arrival as we were a bit delayed in our travel and each of my several phone calls to him were promptly answered with a cheerful, "no problem... we'll be waiting for you." And sure enough, the minute I walked through the door, he was there with a handshake, and some great advice for a late-night dinner. Old-school charm with new-school technology from the door codes to the free (unbelievably fast) Wi-Fi, I literally don't know what else I could've asked for to make this any more comfortable than it already was. They're in a beautiful location with gorgeous parks within a stone's throw and walking distance to downtown (right down the road on Washington Blvd) and the water. It couldn't have been more convenient. The accommodations were amazing. Five bedrooms to pick from, each with their own charm. We picked ours because of the large private bath with an old fashioned claw-foot tub. The bathroom had great water pressure, complimentary high quality shampoos and body washes, and there was even a built-in overhead heater to keep you from getting cold after a shower. The place could not have been cleaner if I cleaned it myself. Either they buy new towels and linens for every guest that stays there or they have some trick up their sleeves they should teach to the rest of the hospitality industry. The sinks and tub didn't have a single water stain. The bedroom and bathroom were both immaculate. I guess that's just the best way to describe it without continuing to go over every detail -- immaculate. Beautiful woodwork through the upstairs hallways and there wasn't a sign of wear anywhere. They clearly care about not only their guests but about this beautiful home away from home. Three common rooms and a beautiful front porch give you a choice as to where you want to socialize, meet other guests, have a coffee, do some work, just relax, or play any number of their countless awesome games (such as the biggest wooden scrabble board you've ever seen or a 40-year-old hand-carved chess board with 10-inch hand-carved pieces for instance) while you're waiting for others in your party to get ready to go out. Free snacks galore (about a dozen different ones to pick from), a refrigerator to use for restaurant leftovers you might bring back, beautiful plateware and silverware, and interesting little furnishings from long past, such as an antique wooden stereoscope viewer and a radio which is guaranteed to be the oldest one you've ever seen, are all a part of the experience. Which brings me to my favorite part -- the breakfast, which is outstanding. The first morning, we were presented with fresh berries served as an appetizer. And I mean a HEALTHY amount of FRESH, BEAUTIFUL berries. The next course was some hand-made warm, cinnamon, pear crumble thing. And the final course was an egg, sausage, and cheese pastry with fennel. Several of them. Per person. The next morning started again with what must have been hand-chosen berries, but this time we received a different delicious crumbly warmed first course followed by this amazing herbed-egg dish which had some sort of baked Parmesan topping. I remember taking the first bite, and then I remember my extra-large oval ramekin (served hot straight from the oven) being clean enough to put back in the cupboard. Everything else between those two points is fuzzy. And all the coffee and juice you can drink. We did not leave that table hungry either morning. And my mouth has been is watering recalling it for this entire paragraph. There's an old saying that when you find something good you have two choices - keep it for yourself or share it with the world, and I don't get to Grand Haven enough to in good conscience keep it for myself.
