Fast forward two trips later we're big fans. The property is well maintained, the staff are friendly, other guests have been welcoming and respectful, and there is so much to do. Holland State Park is great but this year (2018) Tunnel Park was the hit. We have 4 kiddos entertainment is important. I highly recommend a stay here.

First, the location is awesome. Across the street from a Lake Macatawa access (our balcony had a lake view) and down the street from the Holland State Park Lake Michigan Beach (perfect to watch the sun set). We also hiked Mt. Pisgah a couple of days (just down the street too). We stayed in the Newport (sleeps 8, 4 in beds, 4 in sofa beds). We loved the unit from the decor to the multi level layout and fully stocked kitchen. If someone in your party has trouble with stairs I might pick a unit that has an additional first floor kitchen/bar. There is a jet tub in the master bath and a private patio with a grill off the back of the first floor bedroom. There is also an outdoor grill with patio table seating right off the pool deck for entertaining. The salt water pool and hot tub (mostly the hot tub) was my fav, especially after climbing all those stairs at Mt Pisgah. 8 minutes to downtown Holland and 20 minutes to Saugatuck. Just down the street was a kayak and paddle board rental place. Additionally you get privileges at the Macatawa Golf Club which was very nice. It was worth every penny and we hope to go back again!

It's great for families, couples, or friend groups. It's a perfect location, with walkable access to the state park, hiking, food, ice cream, and more. Quick drive to downtown Holland. The rooms are air conditioned. The pool is well-maintained and iconic. There's a volleyball court and campfires. It's locally-owned. There really is no better place to stay. I recommend walking to the General Store for fresh donuts and nitro brew coffee in the morning. It's a hidden gem! Getting a takeout pizza and eating it on the marina is a great idea too.

Rob was amazing. He reached out to me to confirm my arrival time and checked in on me from time to time via text. The motel is quaint and peaceful. A few things to keep in mind, it is on eastern time zone, that's important if you're driving from the central time zone! Rob was gracious when I was running late to check in. A great place to relax and unwind after a busy day of play, shopping, or in my case working. Lounge by the amazing pool or gather with friends and family at the fire pit, or take a nap in the hammocks! If you're a golfer, it's only a few minutes from The Ravines, an Arnold Palmer designed golf course. I am looking forward to visiting again!

The worst part was the management- outwardly rude, arrogant, and abrasive towards guests. Very strange behavior from them, would not recommend. Hopefully new management will take over, bc with some good upkeep, and proper maintenance of the rooms, as well as just professional behavior from management they would do quite well. Would definitely not recommend- especially if you are traveling with children.

It was quiet and we couldn't hear anyone in neighboring rooms. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. We had a standard king room on the second floor. Check-in was easy and our front door overlooked the pool. I don't think the pool was open when we were there because it was still chilly outside. It was a great experience, but frankly it was just a bummer that it felt like the entire space was geared towards gay men rather than queer PEOPLE as a whole. As a queer woman, I just wish it had felt like I was represented too, but it's okay cause not every space is for me! I also don't know if it's the norm, but the bar was pretty empty for a Saturday night which just didn't give the vibe for dancing I was hoping for. All the staff were so kind and helpful. Would totally stay here again if needed/staying in the area and would recommend to someone who is curious! I don't think I'd seek it out independently just because I live in Grand Rapids and it's only about 45 minutes away and again, feels like the vibe is more focused on men.

Repeat stay, same core problems, plus new ones…read more We stayed here in 2022 with no issues, then in 2023 with several problems, and tried again in 2026 thinking things might have improved. They had not. This stay was Room 426 (we were in 424 in 2023). Staff entering the room Housekeeping and other staff knock three times in rapid succession and try the door immediately. In 2023 a staff member walked in while I was at the car and my wife had just gotten out of the shower. This time I yelled "Hold on a minute!" twice; they still tried the handle. The security latch stopped the door. I had to shout in Spanish before they waited. No apology either time. Front desk also sent maintenance up with no call first. Electrical / kitchen Breaker #3 tripped mid-cycle on the dishwasher. The panel was labeled "Microwave/Refrigerator", same mislabel we saw in 2023 when the disposal tripped it. Housekeeping left detergent residue in the dishwasher cup and dirty dishes on the shelf. The unit filled with water but the pump never ran spray or drain. Toaster was dead. They replaced the toaster in about 45 minutes. Maintenance later showed up and started working on the disposal until I stopped them and explained it was the dishwasher. We were told by the maintenance guy a replacement would come Monday and that the manager would look at credit. We were billed in full. No manager call. Room condition - Carpet tiles are loose, a slip/trip hazard. - Shower pressure is too low to rinse hair. My wife had to shower elsewhere. - Room smelled like a locker room. - Bedside lamp dead; another lamp stays on unless you kill the master or unplug it. - Blackout shade leaks light at the bottom. - Several outlets do not hold plugs, especially power bricks. - Bathroom door has a large gap (little privacy) and is the same "guillotine" style other reviews mention, that is injuring people. - Listing says a conventional oven; there is none. - No in-room safe. - No powered bath fan. - A chewed-up spoon in the drawer had clearly been through the disposal; it cut my lip before I noticed. - North side of the 4th floor: air handler is loud and rattles the floor. - Still using poorly fitting mattress pads as "blankets." - AC is on motion sensors with no explanation in the room. You must get up at night and move around to keep it cooling. - No Member snack bag at check-in. Silver status was only acknowledged at checkout. What they did right Room surfaces were generally clean; cabinet tops and AC prefilters were fine. Bedding was clean and white (the pad still does not cover a king for two people). Wi-Fi was stable but only ~5 Mbps up/down -- not "high-speed." Late checkout as a member was honored, though housekeeping still knocked after 11 a.m. with the DND sign on the door. Bottom line These are not one-off "oops" items. Several were the same as 2023. We have stayed at other hotels in Holland and at a Home2 in Madison, WI, that were clearly better run. I would not book this property or the Tru behind it again if I have another option in town.
