The shoreline has a fabulous view of the lake and the picnic tables would be perfect for doing exactly that by the waterside. Parking lot is the trailhead for a paved bikeway and walking trails. And then just a 15min walk (or 2 minute car ride) from downtown, Bass Lake is right there for your hiking pleasure. The lake itself is serene with great views from the circumferential hiking path around it. But it doesn't end there. Miles and miles of trails break off from the main lake for a longer outdoor experience. Plenty of parking with clean bathrooms at the main parking area. This is perfect for a shorter stroll around the lake, or a day's adventure across the many trails leading from here.

While at the Bridge, I mentioned that I was also considering going over to Riverbend Park which was only about 20 additional minutes from where we were. A couple of the folks decided to join me. I've been here probably a half a dozen times but never checked in and left a review although I did post some photos. Our group leader was familiar with the Park because she had hiked the trails often but was not aware of the Dam for Lake Hickory which is just upstream. The other lady was aware of the Dam but did not realize that there was a Park just downstream. When you pull into the main parking lot, at the back side is a small road with a sign that says "Trailheads" to the right and Picnic Rest Rooms to the Left. Not obvious but if you take the Left Fork, you go down the hill to the River. At the bottom of the hill is another parking lot next to the Catawba River. When you first to into the lot, there is an observation deck that extends out into the edge of the Catawba River. Great view of Fall foliage from here. If you go back past the covered picnic shelter you end up at the Canoe Launch area. Another beautiful area. We missed it but they open up the dam on occasion for the Canoe's and Kayaker's to create whitewater. At that time. all the rocks you see in the photographs are submerged. A little past peak color but the maples with their shades of rea were still beautiful.

They have both a Gem mine and the trout fishing and in the old days had a mini golf course but that is long gone now. The main guy who operates it, Heath, is super nice and helpful. He got us setup and helped my kids learn to cast the poles and get the hook out once the fish were caught. They charge by the pound and the trout are pretty big so plan a big meal ahead. There's a little extra for cleaning the fish but that's worth it. If you are looking for a fun kid activity this is also a kid friendly place as long as they can hold the pole and reel with your help. The poles, bait, and buckets are supplied so you don't have to bring anything with you. They'll pack it in ice for you also when you leave so you'll be able to keep your fresh catch cold. ----TL;DR----- PROS: plenty of parking, friendly folks, usually it's pretty easy to catch a fish, family run, family oriented and kids will likely enjoy it CONS: none, it's lots of fun BOTTOM LINE: if you like fishing and want to spend a fun few hours, check them out. We've been many times and still love to go back!

Whether you are a dog owner, have children, like to walk/jog, partake in fitness activities or water activities, Ramsey Creek Park is the way to go! There is literally something for everyone! It is located in Cornelius, off of Nantz Road. Upon entering the park, you will find a variety of parking areas, some closer or further away from the water. Any parking area you choose will be a great walk to whatever activity you want to partake in. With that in view, there is plenty of parking available at just about anytime of the day. There are multiple trails available within the park, some that loop around back to the start, and some that cross over the main road within the park putting you on connected trails on the other side. Some trails are a little bit more rugged, whereas other trails are somewhat paved and not so rugged. There are tons of grilling stations, along with bench/table seating areas, for those that wish to grill out and have a great day. Plenty of restrooms are also available. During the summer, these areas are normally packed with people, enjoying the summer fun! Additionally, Ramsey Creek Park has a boat ramp from which you can leave/return or make a pitstop from another location on the water. Ramsey Creek Park is really a great destination, a hidden gem, in the Cornelius area! If you have an opportunity to visit the park, don't miss out on a variety of activities and fun for the entire family!

Having never been on a float trip before, I do not have much to compare to. I can say without a doubt, however, that Nils is an excellent guide who is incredibly knowledgeable about the rivers. We spent a day floating down Watauga and each lost count at how many we rainbows and browns we caught. Nils was personable, accommodating, and professional. He was full of advice for when you are out wading, fly choice, and was not overbearing. Even gave me a dozen flies to take home and try. I will be booking solely with him for future trips! This is one of the few if not the only lake on the blue ridge parkway! If I'm not mistaken the…read morelinville area is the only other water area. We stayed several weeks back during a holiday weekend (towards the end) all camp spots on the app were booked or closed due to dead trees and storms. We drove in and found a spot on the water side.. I'm impressed with these camping areas friendly folks and quiet!!!! Unbelievably quiet! Than once I realized you can walk around the WHOLE lake!! How cool is that! Just an awesome place! And we live here!!! I've drove by. I've drove through. I've dropped the kids for events here. But I've never experienced the park myself! I'm now hooked! You can be there and not really understand that there quite possibly is 1000's of people around you.. not really noticeable.. pretty awesome.. there's places to go and not far from you where there will be nobody! It's quite amazing!! I like to feel alone and this place works!!! Campsites are perfectly private and spaced as such! Love this place!

The highlight is the Tanawha Trail that runs 13.5 miles and includes Grandfather Mountain. There are canoes available for rental and the lake is stocked with fish.
