Lake Forest Nails opened its doors last year at a time when Lake Forest really needed a nail salon. The place is quick and efficient. They have the big massage chairs for pedicures. It's a terrific place if you wan a fast salon to get your nails done and for last-minute appointments. One thing I didn't like was the technicians chatted it up in a different language. The manicures/pedicures are great. In terms of customer service, it was quite possibly the worst I have ever experienced. A friend and I went to get a mani/pedi, and my friend's technician rudely commented on my height (5'5...not an extremely un-average height?) and the necessity that my friend get her eyebrows waxed. Lake Forest Nails does an incredible job! I have had regular manicures and pedicures as well as no chip and have been thrilled with them every time. The place is immaculately clean with a phenomenal range of colors to choose from. The staff is very professional and extremely diligent in making sure the work stations and tools are sanitized prior to beginning any work. The massage chairs for pedicures are wonderful and add to the spa like atmosphere. I always leave feeling incredibly relaxed and pampered! I have been able to get last minute appointments fairly easily. I do recommend calling in advance for appointments as they are usually very busy. The owner is very accommodating, though, and makes every effort to squeeze as many people in as possible. They do take walk ins IF they are not overwhelmed with clients who have scheduled appointments. I have been there on busy days when someone comes in as a walk in and have been impressed at how hard the owner works to accommodate the walk in despite having a completely booked schedule. I am sooo addicted to the quality of mani/pedis here that I actually drive the 3.5 hrs back from my summer place to get my nails done here! You won't be disappointed! read more

From the start a picture was shown twice of what I wanted and the owner said she would be able to do it. When I noticed she was finishing up my manicure and it was nothing like the picture, I politely told the owner that this isn't the look that I showed her. The owner yelled at me and said I should have told her what I wanted before she "spent all this time." She proceeded to basically call me a liar, saying I had been in her shop to get acrylic many times, when in fact I've never had acrylic done in my life. The owner was unbelievably rude and belittling. Besides the nail art not being anywhere close to what I wanted the actual nail shape is horrible/messy. I would strongly discourage anyone from coming to this shop. I hope this review saves someone else from an all around nasty experience. read more

The sign outside says "walk-ins welcome" however when I walked in, I was asked what I wanted by the lone nail technician, which was irrelevant because she then said that she was booked for the day and I needed an appointment. I have been to Lake Forest Nails two times. The first time was adequate; my only complaint being that they accept credit cards, but do not allow a tip on the card. I had to walk over to CVS and withdraw cash after I learned of the policy (after my manicure was finished). The second time, I made an appointment for my friend and I. While my friend's manicure was started right away, I had to wait 20 minutes for my manicure to be started. I was asked to sit in 3 different chairs for the duration of my time, and was worked on by 3 different technicians. A major inconvenience when a manicure is generally a time of relaxation. The final technician that worked on my nails was the owner, and she was the least impressive of them all. She was rough, did a poor job at trimming my cuticles, and now my no-chip manicure is BUBBLING a week in to the manicure! Oh, not to mention she answered the phone at least 10 times while she was working on my nails. There are plenty of other places in town to get your nails done. read more

This is the absolute best place for nails in Lake Forest! I've been coming to see Anne since she opened -- and even would schedule in time for my mani/pedi when I was visiting and not living locally! They do a phenomenal job -- even a regular polish lasts over a week. It was also the only salon I would trust with my nails for my wedding last year. Aside from the fabulous job they do, I also love this place because it is clean (seriously, spotless), welcoming, and unbelievably accommodating. I have been going to her consistently since the beginning of summer and thought now was a good time for a review because I have had all types of experiences. My friend recommended her and told me to come first. I almost didn't and just walked in, but after becoming a regular I can say ALWAYS call to make an appointment first!! Service is always perfect, she's so lovely, takes her time and my nails last for 3 weeks after. I love it. So affordable too!! Was able to walk-in and be taken right away for a mani/pedi. Pedi was nothing great, no major exfoliating of feet or massage. Price was reasonable for the location- $37 cash for both. Manicure good lasted almost a week- 5 days-ish (I did reapply the top coat every other day). Open Sunday which is a huge help/bonus!!! read more

I totally agree with the negative reviews as to the quality of service here. I have gone to this salon steadily for 4 months and will not be going back. I have acrylic nails put on and filled. Each time I noticed something was wrong; the length uneven, the filing rough, the polish edge clean up sloppy (but never said anything to the person responsible - the owner Ann). And usually Ann painfully grazed or burned my finger with the power file. Her attitude was brusque and inattentive. At first I thought she was that way with everyone, then I saw her acting completely different with some clients. So I guess she has favorites. I've given this salon a lot of chances due to its convenient location, but I'm tired of the second class treatment and poor job. There's lots of nail salons out there - skip this one. Since my post was deleted, I will repost now. This salon absolutely does not belong in Lake Forest. The staff does not understand the meaning of providing customer service. From the second you walk in, nobody says hello or smiles. There is merely a gruff 'pick your color,' without anyone even making eye contact with you. Not exactly welcoming. Most of the girls give a decent mani/pedi and if you pay cash, you can have both for $45, including tip, which is very reasonable. Do not expect ANY frills...the massage lasts about 10 seconds long and some of the girls do not massage at all. Again, you get what you pay for. I also agree with other writers that the girls speak Vietnamese amongst themselves and you get the distinct impression that they are speaking poorly about the customers! But my biggest complaint is about the manager Ann, who is especially grumpy. She looks and acts unhappy all the time and makes the customer feel like she is doing you a favor by giving you an appointment. She is also the one who takes incoming calls, so forget about having a relaxing manicure. She interrupts your service to clean the sink, take money or whatever else needs to be done and never apologizes for keeping you waiting or not concentrating on what she is doing. She is downright RUDE. With so many other better choices in town, skip this place and enjoy your service elsewhere! read more

The owner is a hard-working Vietnamese immigrant who has a terrific sense of humor and, in my experience, is very good at what she does. We had to wait for a little, which was fine, we were walk-ins, but everyone seemed pretty nice, maybe a little stressed but nice nonetheless. My nails chipped 4 days later. everywhere else I have been, my nails lasted two to three weeks ( with gel polish). In addition, THE OWNER IS EXTREMELY RUDE & only cares about getting your money & how much of tip you are giving her. I have been to this salon at least five times. The techs are very nice but always found the owner to be rude. She answers the phone rudely. Today I heard a client thank her on the phone for the appointment and she didn't respond as to a "you're welcome" or in fact thank her for the appointment. When I scheduled my appointment, she told me to make sure I am on time. I have never been late nor do I think she even knows who I am. I was insulted to be spoken to in this manner. My appointment was at 9:00. When I got there 10 minutes earlier, so that I could pick out my nail polish, no one was there. When the owner arrived, I followed behind her - never got a hello or good morning. She didn't hold the door open for me and let the door hit me in the face. She told me to wait - didn't offer me to sit down and wait so I didn't know if I should go outside and wait. I sat down anyways as she proceeded to light insense and vacuum the carpet. I was appalled. By that time I about had enough of her rude behavior and spoke to her about it.. She told me that she was stuck in traffic and wanted to vacuum her carpet so it can be clean for her customers. She never apologized. I would have walked out immediately but I had a gift certificate for a pedicure that I won at a drawing from their store. The brush and sanding instrument was placed in the bowl where my feet were soaking. Gross! I pulled the brush out because it kept hitting my feet - when I tried to grab the other item, the tech told me to stop because "its dirty." Believe me, it wasn't even worth my time to sit in such a hostile environment. Worst experience!!! read more
