We are traveling through Michigan and this was our first time stopping in Lake Burger. My husband was craving and Olive Burger. I went with the fried chicken sandwich based on the reviews. He mentioned the urger wasn't quite good as a traditional Olive burger as it had feta, which he didn't care for (experiencing something new). The burger patty was good. They did put a lot of olive topper which overpowered the burger. My chicken sandwich was cooked well and juicy. However it's not the best I've ever had....and I might actually prefer the Jesus Chicken. The fries were okay, but soggy. We didn't eat most of them, which is good to save on those calories. If I was in the area again, I might give them another try, this time with just the classic burger. read more

This place is mainly a takeout location, but there are a couple of seats along the walls. We went in on Friday around 5:30 PM and there was a steady rush of take out orders coming in - we were the only ones eating in the restaurant. Lake Burger - Good burger, pillowy brioche bun, hand made patty, crisp veggies. The patty was a little on the drier side. Maybe the beef they use isa little leaner than typical? Sauce seemed to be pretty similar to thousand island dressing. Great Lake Burger - Pretty much identical to the Lake Burger, but with the fresh sliced onion and tomato replaced with caramelized onions. The onions definitely had a good amount of sugar added so it's a bit on the sweet side. Parmesan Truffle Fries - Very slight hint of truffle, quite salty but a nice crisp fry in general. This was served with some home made ketchup and aioli. Both were excellent. There's not many burger places around with homemade condiments - Lake Burger is something special. . To be honest, the food is not the best I've had (still well above average though), but I give them a lot of credit for having most (all?) locally sourced ingredients. I am in love with this burger!! It comes in fun wrapping. They have an offer: for every first Tuesday of every month, Some burger options are 5 dollars only. Their regular prices are $10-13$ for burgers only without frise or drinks, which is toooo pricey compared to thier small size of burger and the thin Patty. The service here is awesome! Place is tiny but food is spilled with flavor. The staff was nice and suggested food since it was my first time in. He also suggested I stay and eat in when I was hindering on carry out. There's only two counters so you can sit if you're in a small party. I ordered the truffle shroom burger with Swiss because I love my shrooms! I think the garlic aioli side I had my have also come with it(?), but I used that for fries! The burger was super juicy (not sure these other reviews saying it was dry), and the truffle spread was just enough to not be overbearing. The fries (perfect doneness) were served with a side of homemade ketchup - sealed the deal! I didn't know I was missing homemade ketchup in my life before this! This is a carryout restaurant with just a few siner seats. I've had the burgers but it's the Chicken Buttermilk Sando I enjoyed today. It comes with pepper jack cheese fresh spring mix salad (from a locally source farm) dill pickles and Ranch dressing which I always get on the side. The buttermilk fried chicken coating was crispy and perfectly spiced. The ranch dressing tasted so good, I'm thinking it's made in house. Added plus, fries are cut on site and served with house made ketchup. Holy Sando the ketchup is the REAL DEAL! I do love their burgers because it's Carlson Farms meat but I am a chicken Sando guy. Stopped in here with the kids (10 and 12) during the week for lunch. The burgers and service were fantastic. My son said it was the best burger (bacon cheeseburger) he's ever had and my daughter loved the grilled cheese. The fries were cooked to perfection and the home made condiments were a nice touch. It's really a 4.5 star. I asked the guy which fries I should order and he recommended the cajun fries...and WOW are they cajun. There was a ton of them, too. The burger was really good but it is pricey and a bit small when it comes to the beef itself. Got some fast grub at Lake Burger a few nights ago. I had it delivered. It was an olive burger (I know, not everyone's "go to" burger) But, I wanted to try it, since it not only has olives, which I love, it also has feta cheese! One of my all-time favs. I also had them add jalapeños, which they did very well. It added a nice kick. Got the fries as well. I wish they had a better beverage selection with actual large drinks. But that's small stuff. The burger was OUTSTANDING!!! I could have EASILY eaten two. There was more than an ample amount of fries. Get the boardwalk fries!!! Excellent. This was by FAR the worst carry out experience we have ever been the victim of... the order was for 6 piece chicken fingers and a lake burger with fries (errr apparently we thought it came with fries...) Here's the pictures of the atrocities that this establishment attempted to pass off as "food", notice the quotations because I would not feed this trash to circus animals. First of all, there was only 3 chicken tenders... which alright, whatever, I get it that they can't count or have an incorrect item listed on the take out menu. The problem is that the chicken was so greasy and not fully fried that the breading was sliding off the chicken. They also packaged it on top of the French fries so the chicken dripped all the grease on top of the fries. On to the fries... not a SINGLE fry was crispy, or even remotely properly fried. They were all drenched in grease, to the point you could fling them at a wall and they would stick. This is so beyond unacceptable. But alright... ok... so they can't count, can't fry food, and can't properly package anything. Cool. Whatever, they're called LAKE BURGER so obviously the burger is going to be epic. Hahhahahahgah this is where it truly gets hilarious. Pictured is the actual burger this place charged us $9.00 for and (apparently, even though that is not listed at all anywhere) does not come with fries! This is literally a 3 Oz patty, maybe on a good day, with a thumb on the scale....It was flavorless, unseasoned, dry as Death Valley and served on a highly questionable "brioche" bun. Wendy's has had better "brioche" buns that whatever they served us. Here's the picture to prove it all. This place needs boycotted to the point of being out of business. The owner is super friendly and truly cares about the quality of the food and making customers happy. My husband has celiac and loved the gluten free bun. I should have taken a picture of his.The fries are blanched in the mornings in a fryer that is not a designated fryer but then fried in a designated fryer for only French fries when you order. The ketchup reminded me of sweet thai chili sauce mixed with some other ingredients which gave it an Asian flavor. Honestly, I wasn't a fan. BUT THAT AIOLI THOUGH!!!! Strong garlic flavor that is similar to a Mediterranean/Greek sauce. Also had an order of their cheesy fries. These are the traditional fries topped with a house made cheese sauce that was full of smokey, spicy, cheesiness. 10/10 recommend trying! Well Lake Burger, I love everything about you - the concept, the menu, and the food - but when I end up spending 20 mins waiting for my milkshake while my Boardwalk fries weep and die in the takeout bag 15 minutes prior (and while the other walk-in orders before and after me fly out and get to be enjoyed by their orderers), it really makes me second guess dropping in or stopping by to grab food. A little inconvenient, but one of the better burger places in Kalamazoo. Had Lakeburger about half a dozen times now, and it's probably one of my favorite hamburger-specific places in all of Kalamazoo/Portage. Their menu is pretty small and they only do take out, but the quality is good. I usually go with the BBQ bacon bleu, which is a flavor bomb with lots of toppings that you'd expect, but it's just a nice burger. I've gotten another one of their burgers and it came out really dry for some reason, so it can be hit or miss. Their fries are probably my favorite thing there. They have different flavored fries and hand made sauces. I highly recommend the truffle fries. My final verdict is a 4/5. You're paying MORE than what a restaurant would charge you for a burger and fry, and you unfortunately can't eat it while it's fresh on location. But that being said, the quality of the burger is *usually* very good and the fries are worth the trip. read more

Okay, it's a week later so it's time to give this new burger joint a second try. I went to pick up take out while my girl was finishing planting a hundred beautiful yellow marigolds in the raised garden. Since I was showing up at dinnertime, I anticipated that Lake Burger would be slammed, and it was, with a line of customers out the door and every metal bar stool filled with people waiting for their take out orders or eating in. Today, there were two people working up front: a young woman unfamiliar to me taking orders and payment at the register, and the same woman as the first time expediting orders. I ordered three double burgers, one with sauteed mushrooms and two with pickled jalapenos; and a single order of fries. There were two men cooking in the back, still not using plastic gloves. I sat off to the right (near the cooler side) to watch. As each prepared item (sandwich, fries, shake) was placed on the counter behind her by a cook, the expediter matched it with the order slip attached to one of several brown paper sacks lined in front of her. She then took a pen to tic off each food item off the slip. Take out sandwiches came in unmarked Styrofoam clam shells, while eat in sandwiches arrived in baskets. One man came in to pick up take out. He must have called ahead, and he had to wait a few minutes because his fries weren't ready. He left and then returned minutes later because the water and 2 sodas he'd paid for weren't in the bag. The expediter retrieved the trio of drinks from the cooler and apologized. I decided to watch my brown paper sack, which was only feet from me. My fries arrived first. Ninety seconds later, I heard a cook say "Double with mushrooms" and that clam shell was put in the bag. It was at that point I was distracted by activity out on the parking lot, and when I turned back the expediter put in another clam shell and say my name. I grabbed the sack and walked out to the car. We have an insulated cooler with us at all times and as I was putting the sack inside I thought, "I really should check." And indeed, there was a sandwich missing. I returned to the restaurant, the expediter saw me, grabbed a clam shell from the shelf behind her and said, "Sorry. I was about to run out to find you before you drove away." The double with mushrooms, my girl's sandwich, was overcooked and dry. One of my doubles with jalapenos was overcooked and dry. The third, the sandwich I walked back in to retrieve, was medium rare and juicy. But completely unseasoned. The fries, which I tasted before I put the entire lot in the cooler, were hot but limp. It bugs me when people who prepare my food don't wear plastic gloves. It's such an inexpensive precaution. But, if it matters little to you, and you get take out at Lake Burger, I suggest - particularly if you sense the staff at the front are getting overwhelmed - check your order. I think the staff at the front are searching for a system but it's not working. I noticed that the expediter had checked off the sandwiches on the order slip on my bag but must have neglected to see the "X2" (indicating there were two Doubles with jalapenos in my order). I'm glad an area restaurant that is using local ingredients is, based at least on what I witnessed today, doing well. But it'll be doing well from now on without my business. read more

We came here on the first day without knowing that it was their first day! We enjoyed their truffle fries and strawberry shake. Loved and devoured both of them. Ayeeeeee, the truffle fries. I waited a week not eating any fries so I could be I could be fry deprived, came here for the second time to have these fries. Salty, oily...........deliciously enjoying it all. The fries were better than the burger, the bun is good but not something I prefer regularly. Briochey and a little thick. I may try it as a lettuce wrap next time, although I casually enjoy my burger with fries, I highly enjoy the water w/lemon that they have in their water dispenser.
