Disappointed. Previous to this year their chicken sandwich was made with chicken thigh meat. This year they have switched to breast meat. The additional fat that comes with thigh meat made this sandwich much more juicy and flavorful. Changing to breast meat makes it dry with less flavor. The thigh meat is what made this such a great sandwich. Sorry to see this change. read more

Seriously, this is one of the best chicken sandwiches in the area. It is VERY GOOD! When we checked in, we were actually lucky to be able to get 2 sandwiches and try them out. They ran out of chicken one houre before their actual closing time! (It is that good!) We ordered California chicken sandwich. Basically, it is mouthwatering crunchy white meat chicken with colslow salad and soft avocado, hugged inside two warm brioche buns. Tasty, juicy and it hits just right. For dessert, We ordered coconut Carmel ice cream cone. Very creamy and sweet. The portion was generous. It was very good as well. Prices , quality and service were excellent and beyond. Move over Chick-Fil-A. My family just found a new favorite chicken spot! These thighs don't lie. Seriously. These chicken sandwiches are incredible. As I was waiting for our order (carryout only), I met a gentleman who warned me of how good they are, saying that in the 7 days it has been open, he has gone 4 times!! Now that I've eaten it, I totally see why. The only negatives are the wait time and the lack of seating (essentially none). I would suggest calling ahead. I tried to do this, but the line disconnected me after a few rings. Still, the gentleman I met told me he recommends calling ahead, so it clearly works. Here are the positives: literally everything else. The chicken is incredible, the toppings, sauces and buns are right on the mark, the hashbrowns are fantastic, and the ice cream is from Plainwell. Also, the price is super reasonable (about $5 per sandwich, sides not included). We tried each of the sandwiches and loved them all. The original is going to be a go-to for the kids, and my wife and I will regularly devour the Nashville Hot. The Cali really nice with the avocado and slaw, and the Mother Clucker is a behemoth that oozes umptuous goodness. You really can't go wrong. Super spicy Nashville Hot sandwich, but pretty good! Bun was great, flavorful sauce. Tri taters reminded me of the triangle hashbrowns everyone loved in the college cafeteria. They were nice and crispy! I'd recommend calling ahead. The place is really small and super busy. But it's right on the water so at least you have a nice view while you wait in your car. The Hot Honey Hen was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had!! Getting good fried chicken and bun both gluten free is a rarity! Worth the drive to Gull Lake. Spouse's favorite is the California Chick, and my bff goes for the Mother Clucker. Kudos to the staff here for great food and awesome service!! We overheard some other customers being rude to the staff, and pretty much because the customers were self-absorbed, entitled POS who acted like they were better than everyone else and didn't have to follow the rules (which are clearly stated on the door), and also didn't want to wait for their food. It's like having manners, acting like an adult, or treating others with decency went out of style for these folks. Don't be "that" person if you go here. My only "complaint" is that they're closed for the season. I wish you all would stay open a little longer...but I get it. Can't wait until you all are back next year!! I loved my Nashville chicken sandwich (hot chicken and slaw). It had the heat that is hard to find up North and the slaw provides a nice cool, crunchy contrast. I also sampled the original Clucker (pickles and Duke's Mayo) and the California (avocado and lime ranch). All were tasty and affordable $4.50~$5.50. Excited to try everything here! Great place to grab and go especially in these times. We got some sandwiches with the traditional thighs and then a couple with breasts. The thighs definitely add lots of flavor. I loved my California Chick. The coleslaw is a classic and works great, especially with the mix of the sauce on the Nashville Hot. My husband's favorite was he frenchie with the mix of ham and cheese and pickles. Each sandwich was loaded up and extremely messy but tasted great. The tots didn't travel well for the to go we did but I'm sure are delicious when fresh. They are three potatoes cakes and definitely need to be "loaded" to add the flavor. FYI: I only went for ice cream and have not tried the chicken sandwiches at this restaurant (which do look delicious). In terms of the ice cream, it was standard Michigan ice cream from plainwell. They carried quite a few flavors and I was able to find something I was happy with. However, this location is TINY. Beware. I felt overwhelmed and panicked when it was my turn to order because you don't get to see the menu until it's your turn to order almost. If you are in dire need of ice cream in the Gull Lake area, this will do. But I'd say go elsewhere if you want a better experience. Will be back to try those chicken sandwiches though! read more

No place is 'so good' that it overshadows HORRIBLE treatment of customers. The woman (dark curly hair) who served us 100% acted like we were VERY LUCKY to wait in line for 20 min & spend $50 on sandwiches & ice cream. Apparently there's an unwritten rule that you MUST order the food BEFORE ice cream or the world ENDS & you get a crappy comment, an eye roll and a horrible attitude. I know it's hard to find good employees, but I'm good with a one time visit to the Chicken House after a terrible visit where we were treated terribly. Gull Lake is usually our happy place so we don't need the bad attitude & poor service tainting that. read more

These are THE BEST chicken sandwiches I may have ever had. The brioche buns they're served on are soft and grilled so they're a little crispy. Each chicken thigh fills the bun, is juicy, seasoned and breaded perfectly. We ordered 1 of each to share so we could decide which we liked best. They're all the best! If you like SPICY chicken sandwiches you have to try the Nashville Hot. It's pretty spicy (which I love) and has coleslaw, Nashville Comeback Sauce and dill pickles. The Original is simple and delicious, served with just Dukes Mayo and pickles. The pickles they use are very good as well. The Mother Clucker has a perfectly cooked egg on top which was so tasty. They also have a California that has avocado on it and we really enjoyed that as well. They also serve breakfast! The AM Clucker is great. It has your choice of chicken, bacon or ham with cheese and maple butter on a biscuit. The Where's The Chicken is Ham or bacon with egg and cheese. I highly suggest you try any of their specials they offer. They have yet to disappoint. And to top off all of this amazing chicken sandwich overload, they serve PLAINWELL ICE CREAM!!! They also serve soft serve ice cream, flurries, shakes, malts and slushees. Other drink choices are bottled water & cans of Faygo. I can't say enough good about this place. We love to order this on Saturday mornings. If you have a boat, I suggest you drive it right up to the dock and get yourselves the best chicken sandwiches and ice cream is Southwest Michigan. We prefer to call our order in to avoid standing in a long line. Be aware that the chicken sleeps on Monday. So plan to only get ice cream on a Monday. The bread they use is from the Michigan Bread Co, they use fresh veggies that are locally grown and I believe the chicken might also be local. They even bake their own biscuits for their breakfast sandwiches. I promise you that every sandwich is fantastic and it's well worth the wait if you call ahead or stand in line. read more

Always been a huge fan of Kitchen House, so I figured I would like Chicken House as well, but didn't realize how much. I had the California Chick and it was awesome. The fried chicken is tender, very flavorful, and NOT greasy like a lot of other fried chicken places serve. The chipotle lime ranch gave it a nice, smoky, citrus flavor, which paired well with the avocado and coleslaw. I also had the plain tri-tatters which was one of the best hash browns I've ever had. It was not greasy like most hash brown patties you get and was so crispy and crunchy. Followed up our meal with a chocolate malt Plainwell Ice Cream style (which is the best ice cream around). Can't wait to try the other stuff on the menu. Jennifer and Paul have outdone themselves again. Kitchen House is my favorite restaurant by far and now we have another great place to eat in Richland. customer service is key to a successful business, especially in a small towm. the blond girl working the counter tonight was rude and argumentative. she got our order wrong - when we asked about it as it was being made she argued and said we had ordered wrong. we had not BUT..Good customer service dictates a response something like" oh, I am sorry for the misunderstanding. let me correct the order" that isnt what we got. she instead argued with and blamed the customer. this was the second night in a row we went for ice cream. both nights she got orders wrong and was flat out rude. I wont return until customer service improves. I will let friends and neighbors here know the issues . read more
