Very busy place , especially during Ramadan. Very good food. 3 out of 4 dishes would get again. It took for the dumplings to come out last for some reason they were really good. When check came it was weird they prefer cash payment . So I paid cash and asked the lady to break the 20$ she gave me. She said they don't have change and it seemed as if they wanted me to just leave the full 20$ for tip which was not going to happen. She said you could go next door. I wasn't going to go walk around asking for change so I left the small change I had left on Walter with was 6$ bucks . A business never had just big bills left around and always should have more in the safe . In this case the couple next to us were given broken down change so it felt as if they were just testing the waters. We were a group of 7 people, the first group got black fungus salad, smashed cucumber salad, lamb, and three types of noodles. Two of us came later and opted for chicken dumpling (vegetable was sold out) and lamb cold noodle laghman. Everything was excellent! Noodles had a great mix of toppings and noodles, there is a chili oil you can use on the table to add spice. Dumplings were not really my cup of tea... Have heard so much about this place which I guess is Central Asian food. Wasnt too familiar with it. Ordered the spicy diced chicken and the dry fried noodles . The chicken was my fave. Spicy but not overpowering with lots of chopped peppers. Very flavorful and great quality. It comes with a side of white rice. The dry fried noodles werent really that dry, they were quite moist and also very flavorful. The "meat" as it says on menu was lamb (I think) and was good. A bit oily but still pretty good. Both came with little containers of chili crisp and a red tomatoey sauce and a white sauce that was a bit like the white sauce at Halal carts. All the meat is Halal. I ordered the beef laghman, a generous helping of handpulled noodles and savory beef and vegetable soupy stew. They use top quality halal meat and you can taste the difference. Guess I'm the odd woman out... but overall - "OK La"... We dropped by to have lunch, small shop seats about 20 (possibly less) but there are 2 tables outside. Feels more like a "takeaway" spot vs. dining in. It's not a table service establishment - you order via the kiosk or front. They will ask if you want it to go or "eat in". If eating in, grab a table and they bring you the food when ready. Our experience today definitely impacted the overall feel - like maybe they are too busy with so many "takeaway" orders which then resulted in unorganized dine-in experience. We ordered 2 different noodle dish and fried manty, and asked for 2 cups of tap water. We got the fried manty... but the tap water never came. So choking on chili oil... had to get a sprite ($5!). Then 1 of our noodles came... it was ok, good flavor but after my 5th bite - it became one note. The gamey taste didn't help. After about 15 mins in... my husband's noodle never came. Finally had to ask the staff and found out, it was never put in. So we canceled it - 1 fried manty, 1 laghman noodle, and 1 sprite; total of $42 +, paid in cash, to avoid the extra fee - paid $45 and left the change. Perhaps a different system is needed to streamline how their orders come in but who knows. Food wise, it's ok, I don't understand the hype... is it due to the lack of halal or Muslim eatery? It reminded me of Chinese American takeout lo mein (like it's a guilty pleasure, but it's not really quality food). Also got the shawarma, but it wasn't really like the typical shawarma. This may have been my first time having Uyghur food and wow was I impressed! The big plate chicken is so good, dare I say it may be even better than Spicy Village's Henan version. It's sweeter and the chicken is so tender. Also loved the cold noodle with lamb cumin. Would 100% reorder these dishes. Next time I'd go with dry fried noodles instead of the rice noodles (looks similar on the photo menu but rice noodles turned out to be more watery). Beef dumplings were good but not my favorite. The lamb and noodle dishes were also well-seasoned with a hint of acidity, and the fresh hand-pulled noodles were excellent. They are bilingual? Triglingual? English, Russian and another language I don't know?!!! Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in Brooklyn! The price is VERY reasonable and the portion and taste of the food is amazing! They serve central Asian food (according to website) and there aren't many restaurants around the area that do. Ive gotten take out from there twice already and food has always been good. The place has seats for sit in, but it's quite small, not ideal for large parties. The person taking our order was very nice and showed us some of their popular recommendations. I've tried 2 different noodles so far and they were both good but If I had to pick 1, I liked the dry fried noodles more. Its extremely flavorful and has a bit of a spicy kick to it. We walked in around 5:30 and the restaurant filled up by 6pm. There are two tables outside if you don't mind dining on the sidewalk. There is a self serve machine or the staff can take your order. This place is such a hidden gem! I found out about this place because of a friend's recommendation. Now I want to share it with fellow yelpers as well! Every item we've tried here has been amazing. Walked by this place last Saturday and instantly knew I wanted to try their food. Happened to be in the neighborhood again today, so I stopped in for a late lunch. Place looked really clean upon walking in, there was no line but plenty of people already seated enjoying their meals. Was pleasantly greeted immediately and order taken right away. I decided to try the shawarma on a plate, comes with rice, lightly breaded and fried chicken/lamb and a salad. Very nice portion, enough for 2 meals. The rice was perfectly cooked, nice and fluffy, not hard or mushy, salad was crisp and fresh and meat perfectly fried, nice and toasty. Came out piping hot (love that) with a side of their salsa and white sauce, both yumm. Tables are equipped with chilli oil, chopsticks, forks, napkins and some other condiments, wasn't sure what they were. Once a I was ready to go, asked for a lid and a bag for my bowl (very convenient). If I could critique one thing, the after taste is a bit salty, not so much so that I wouldn't eat here again. Everyone knows Laghman Express has amazing food -- it's always busy and there's usually a line, which says a lot! The dishes are consistently delicious. But today I especially want to recognize two waitresses at their first location -- Molly and Zhanerke. Even with a full restaurant and nonstop orders, they were incredibly polite, warm, and welcoming. Their tone of voice, kindness, and professionalism truly stood out. Working in such a fast-paced environment isn't easy, but they handled everything with grace and positive energy. In early May, our group of five came for lunch after I'd passed by and was intrigued by A) the restaurant's cozy and unassuming space and B) the name. I'm such a sucker for laghman. Luckily we were able to snag a table, since a few were already taken, and an employee was occupying half the restaurant for a photo shoot with the dishes. Very fun to get a peek behind the scenes. We ordered a bunch of things: smashed cucumber salad, spicy chicken, suirou lagman, dry fried noodles, manti, and naan (this Central Asian bread cooked in a clay oven is always a must). I also got the cold noodles with lamb cumin to go. My favorites were the dry lagman, with its fresh and slightly chewy noodles, and the refreshing, garlicky cucumbers. I could probably do without the manti on a return visit. But overall, everything was hearty and delicious. I also ordered a tea with lemon and sugar, and while I thought it was a cup, it was actually a whole pitcher. Such a great deal for the $4 price tag! Saw Wing L.'s posting of this restaurant and mentioning how they were selected as 100 best on NYT and so I had to visit and am I glad I did. Their food is is delicious, service is great, restaurant is clean and they have outdoor seatings as well. We came here for lunch on a Sunday and their restaurant wasn't too crowded but they did have a good amount of foot traffic. We were seated immediately and we ordered a few dish to share. Their samsa was outstanding. Their dough was perfectly made. It had a nice crust outside but yet still soft and chewy and was complimented so well with the juicy ground lamb meat inside. We also tried their mushroom ear salad, steam dumplings and hand pulled noodles with cumin lamb and they too were delicious. My only qualm was that my cumin lamb was too lean but it's minor as I'm aware it's a matter of preference. Overall, I was very impressed with this place. We had a party of six thinking it would be difficult to get a seat and it technically was. We arrived at 12:30 and it was relatively empty but people really started coming in around 1pm and it was completely packed by then. We got lucky that we beat the wave. We ordered a few dishes to start including the tripe, their bread, dumplings, and mushroom salad. Tripe and salad came out in about 10 minutes but dumplings took 30 minutes before we finally asked where it was and apparently the waitress put in the order. The waitress didn't write anything down when she took our order but she pointed to everything to repeat our order and it was correct so she didn't repeat it back to the kitchen correctly. That was annoying especially since she didn't write down the order. If you can't get it right just write it down? Anyway, the woman at the counter apologized and ended up putting in the order for us and gave us complimentary fried dough dish. We actually had already ordered the fried dough dish so they gave us another one on top, which was overkill but I appreciated the gesture and apology. In between us waiting we actually ordered more dishes. The beef and fries, the milk tea, the lamb cumin dish and the stir fried fish. These items were not particularly good: the lamb cumin was so poorly done and it took forever to come, it was not worth the wait. The beef and fries were also not worth the wait. This dish was for a child so it was pretty frustrating that they didn't get their dish until everyone was already done. Plus it was not worth the wait. The lamb and beef were not done well, very disappointing. The dumplings finally came and they were also not my cup of tea and not worth the wait. For the good: the tripe and mushroom salad were good. The fried dough was good. The milk tea was good. The stir fried fish was good. I noticed only one high chair. They had a ton of people working in the kitchen but only one wait staff in the front. It was rather chaotic and uncomfortable. I think they couldn't keep up with the orders even though they had a ton of people in the kitchen but they were a FULL house. We didn't get to try their noodles but I'm not sure if id come back because only half the dishes were good and the service was really slow. After seeing the very high number (currently 460+) of 5* reviews on Google not long after they opened, I was waiting patiently for the day to come when I could finally try delicious Uyghur food, which I've never had before! The day came and I finally got to experience what the rest of the reviewers did. Walking inside, it was a small mom-and-pop restaurant. While a little cramped, it was clean and bright. I walked up to the counter and ordered dry fried noodles, spicy chicken, and an order of hand-pulled noodles. Pay in cash so they don't charge a credit card fee! Granted it was busy when we were there, it took a whole 35 minutes from ordering to getting our food. About 20 minutes into the wait, the lady brought out a pot of honey lemon tea for us, which helped the wait a bit. The dry fried noodles were good! It may look spicy but it wasn't at all. I honestly had no idea what meat was in it but it tasted like lamb. I would appreciate it if they added descriptions of each dish because people like me aren't too familiar with Uyghur cuisine. The spicy chicken was freshly fried pieces of chicken thigh. It was tasty but way too salty to eat on its own. Loved the red onions and peppers though! I think it would be better to have this dish served with hand-pulled noodles or rice instead of having to order it on the side. Luckily, we ordered hand-pulled noodles on the side, which were perfectly pulled/cooked - very bouncy! Since the noodles are flavorless, the secret is to add some chili oil available at the table. While I don't mind them using paper plates, the dry fried noodles had a sauce coating which caused the plate to soak up the sauce and eventually bleed onto the table. It would be better if they used better quality plates to prevent that in the future. All in all, there are pros and cons to Laghman Express. Since they're just starting, some things can be improved with feedback. However, I find it shocking that there are so many 5* reviews on Google and no reviews at all on Yelp.
