used this place for over a decade because of location, always able to use downloaded coupon for $49.00. He charged my teenage son $99. Says he can't charge less because it has already been paid by my son even though I returned to the business and showed him the coupon. He tried to blame the cashier for the problem. Cashier says he can't do anything about it. Claims I was angry because my car didn't pass -not true - it wouldn't be his fault if it didn't pass. When told about my long history of using this business his response was "well you don't have to come back". Horrible way to treat a long term client. Guess that extra $50 bucks in his pocket was more important to him than doing the right thing. FYI first bad review I have ever written in my life. read more

Before lafayette began to modernize it's downtown, lafayette had fairly cheap gas prices. (way before whole foods). this station even had diesel prices cheaper then oaktown! today, lafyettee's gas prices are easily 20 cents higher than elsewhere and the diesel prices .30 cent higher. maybe there were worried that trucks would inadvertantly bump into things at the station. more likely though that the sunday drivers were scared stiff of the big trucks fueling here and were staying away. to draw the average driver back, they had to raise the diesel prices to discourage trucks from fueling up here. still a nice and clean looking station though. the cashiers were mostly courteous and curious. read more

Vlad runs a misleading business. They offer a $19.99 oil change special in the local paper. This includes filter and up to 5 quarts of oil and a "bumper to bumper safety inspection". So I go in, drop off my Dodge Caravan minivan. When I return to pick it up, I'm told the total is $32. I show Vlad the coupon and he says the total is $32 (CASH) after coupon discount. I said I'm pretty good at numbers and $32 isn't $19.99 even after adding tax. Vlad says Van's are extra, I ask why. He says they take more fluids. I pointed out the coupon states up to 5 quarts of oil. I remind him this vehicle takes 4.8 quarts even after replacing the filter. He gets indignant and says this is the price. I said if he insists I pay this inflated price that he will not get my future business. He replied that he is the most honest business in town (my experience has proven different). It amazes me how a business will spend money to advertise a special to draw in new customers and when a new customer comes in, they alienate them. In addition, when I returned home I noticed one tire was low, so I checked the pressure all around and each tire has a different (low) reading. Then I notice one of the tires is showing wear. This tells me they didn't perform the safety inspection as advertised! I'm grateful to have had to pay a relatively low price to learn they are substandard and dishonest as opposed to bringing them a larger job and really get gouged. Avoid this business! read more

"California Smog" Check.. Buyer beware, you may get charged double... Price on the website says $39.95, they wanted to charge me $79.95. I told Ian Baker the technician, that it was cheaper online. He stated there may be a coupon on the Internet website, but on the Internet it does not show that it is a coupon nor that you need to print it to come in. When I brought this up he ended up charging me $50 that would be $41.75 for the inspection and $8.25 for the certificate. Fishy to me that he did not know the price that was on their website (He stated he didn't know the price). Reason for 2 stars. I believe he did a fine job at it (it was a 09 TDI PZEV) So it was a simple (15mins) visual inspection as compared to a Gas Vehicle. What I didn't like: - Price that was quoted, when I told him it was online cheaper ( I think I said around $50 (I wasn't sure)) he stated he didn't know the price online (really?) and it was a coupon. (it's not a coupon, NOR does it state you must print (or show) the website to get the price. It looks like it's their normal price when online. Mario was insulting and rude. I had a $30 coupon from his website but when I presented it to him (before doing any work), he was visibly annoyed. Unfortunately, I brought the wrong DMV paperwork with me so after 30 minutes, when I returned to pickup my car, he told me to "Take your car away." It sounded rude but I gave him the benefit of doubt since it was not obvious that English was his native language. When I asked what happened, he abruptly explained my error. I went home and immediately came back with the correct DMV form--he gave me the stare-down, took a long time to check my VIN number against the paperwork, walked back to his station, gave me a lecture about the State trying to trick him into doing illegal work, and then--with an accusatorial insulting tone--asked if I was a spy for the State. I said, "No" and asked him if my paperwork was now correct and if it looked legit--he mumbled, "I guess" yet he handed me my keys when I asked if he was going to do the smog check. I understand that he needs to protect his business but there's no reason to be insulting and rude. He made a mistake, I am not a State spy--I just needed a smog check. Mario was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. He is taking up valuable shop space that another professional & deserving person could operate a business and provide a benefit to our community. Unreal. I came here in order to smog a Porsche 911. the attendant was rude and then told me they charged extra for exotics. Every business has the right to charge what they like, but on the phone I had been given a price and when I showed up, he said it would be $99.00 A smog test is a smog test and a Porsche is hardly "an exotic." Along the same lines as that other reviewer, I was referred here by my usual smog place which was re-certifying for STAR tests. The technician lied straight to my face about honoring the coupon. Ended up paying about 100 granted it was for a truck and a STAR test. My car failed and need a simple repair which I was able to get the same day at another much better smog and repair shop in Walnut Creek. I tried to make it back to this place to get my free retest and the technician said they were all booked up for the day. You know that moment when you can just tell someone is feeding you B.S.? Yeah, it was like that. But I didn't fuss and made an appointment on another day having to take time off work. Looks like they got away with charging double for a smog this time. Somehow I paid double for a smog and that was supposedly WITH a coupon... Shame on me this time. I am never returning here again and I recommend that anyone else who needs a smog test to steer clear. The repair shop will try to save you money if they can and will work with you and be flexible to try and help get your car to the shop. If they can't figure a way to save you $, the prices are about standard and typical, so if it's close to you, then save gas and take it by to see what they say. Parking is okay, a little tight but they try to find a space for your car day or night. read more

I went here because my usual place in Walnut Creek was awaiting their STAR recertification. They told me that this place would honor their coupon pricing - WRONG! The young guy wrote me up, charged me $14 more for a truck rate, and $14 more for STAR price. I questioned it, but didn't push it - my bad. I called and spoke with the manager - Effrim, who wouldn't do good business and refund me the $28, but only said he could honor the price for a future job - NOT on your life!! Why he couldn't do a credit is beyond me, except that he is not to be trusted. As a business owner, you don't accept another company's coupons unless you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. His young worker wasn't exactly on top of it, but then I should have been a more astute consumer, as I usually am.
