I would love to give this place 4 stars but the food was just ok. The ambience is wonderful! It's one of those places where you can just sit and look around. T shirts hanging, pictures of firefighters, very cool old station. The waitress was so friendly and sweet, too. I'd probably return just for the atmosphere! The food took a long time but I wonder if something happened as others who ordered after we did received food before us. I ordered a Cajun type burger and hubs ordered the quesadilla burger. Both were kind of dry. Mine did have a good flavor, though whereas he said his was not flavorful at all. The fries were pretty good. I ordered a chocolate lava cake as it was,my birthday and she even stuck a candle in it. They had many other options so maybe burgers just aren't their thing so of you check it out I'd try one of the other options. The fried pickles are really good, though, so get those! read more

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. The service was painfully slow, and the food didn't make up for the wait -- bland, poorly prepared, and clearly lacking attention to detail. There's potential here, but it's being wasted without stronger leadership in the kitchen, better-trained wait staff, and a bartender who knows how to craft a proper drink instead of serving sugary filler. Very disappointed with our service this evening. The server showed a lack of care for our party, despite having reservations several days in advance. We've enjoyed coming here but tonight was terrible. The service was very, very slow even though it was not crowded. The ambiance was unpleasant as a group of 10 men on motorcycles (which is irrelevant) needed to use language which was not pleasant for having a $65 dinner for 2. Far too many shit, f*** and so on. We booked a room at the Firehouse Inn during our New England Fall trip. We had no idea there was a restaurant located downstairs. We checked in and ordered drinks. Welcomed with very friendly staff. Definitely an eclectic and fun restaurant. Food was on par with a pub/eatery. Very large menu with lots of options. We ordered potato skins as a starter. I've lived here in Vermont for 9 years. I'm the beginning this place was pretty good. And then, it wasn't. I keep trying and although the staff has been fantastic and super nice, the food is either burnt, way overcooked, cold or just plain not good. I see many reviews saying the and and I hope they listen and go back to being great. It's been many years that they've been good. And the prices as of a few weeks ago are CRAZY HIGH! I paid just under $20 for a tuna sandwich on GF bread and fries. The bread was terrible but hey, there are some good GF bread that is good, but not this one. I hope they get a real chef or cook and go back to being good. I wish I could give better review, I really do, but the owners need to see that they need to make changes and especially with the prices that they charge now!!! I'll pay for quality any day. But I won't pay for what is being served here. Please bring this place to where it could be! Ladder One could be a HUGE success with quality. Please, we need a great restaurant to eat here in Barre. Four of us went to Ladder 1 for the first time, before an event we were going to at 7pm. (We shared this information whith our server) We arrived to Ladder 1 at 5PM. Our 4 meals included the rattlesnake pasta with chicken, chicken tenders, fish and chips, French dip and French onion soup. 3 of the 4 meals were cold, not just Luke warm, but cold. Even the fish! The croutons or bread in the French onion soup were so burned all you could taste was char and salt. The only meal edible was the French dip sandwich. In addition to being served cold meals, we waited over 40 minutes for our food. We waited about 15 minutes, or more, for our first drinks, 3 cocktails, 1 beer and 1 glass of water. The people at the table next to us arrived about 30 minutes after we did, and had their food 10-15 minutes before we did. When I asked our server why the table next to us already had their meals and arrived well after us, she said the hold up with our table was because someone ordered pasta. However, one of the patrons at the table next to us had also ordered pasta and was eating it. Due to our time constraints, we didn't have the luxury of sending 4 meals back so we sucked it up and ate cold food. When our server returned to ask how our food was, I politely let her know that all of our meals were cold, one burned, and only the sandwich was acceptable, she just said, "oh" I'll let the kitchen know. We got our check and could not believe they didn't adjust our bill!! Not a penny was discounted and no apology was made by the manager or server. After I paid I told our server I was aghast that they didn't offer to adjust our bill. Her reply, :well, you didn't ask us to"!!!!! Really? We shouldn't have to ask, the restaurant should have been embarrassed and apologetic and adjusted the bill because it's the right thing to do. We shouldn't have to ask. It's bad enough to serve cold food, and take an hour to serve the cold food, but not offering so much as an apology or an adjustment to the bill is inexcusable. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

The vibe here is awesome. Love the decoration and layout. It's a lot a fun and a great idea for a place to go with a large group. The service was excellent! The food was NOT great, but it was okay. Definitely not worth what I paid for it. The dough on my calzone was not good at all. Very odd dry texture and yeasty taste for pizza dough and it was under cooked. I liked the seasoning they put on the calzone and I loved the cheese they used. The salad was better but the cold cuts on top weren't fully sliced, so it looked like someone just threw slices of deli meat on my salad. read more

Great place to eat a good lunch. They were not busy at all. Waitress was prompt in taking all of our orders and checked back often. Meal took a little longer than a few others that were sat after us but I had some good company so it was fine. I got the Chief salad and some onions rings. The dressing was a Vidalia onion. Both were very good and I would order them again. My parents frequent here a lot. read more

After reading reviews we stopped here for lunch. We were the first ones in the door so they weren't busy yet. Staff was very nice. Halloween decorations were awesome & we both thought how children must love this place. We were pleased that they were adhered to CDC guide lines. We offered a coffee and a "lunch" brew. The coffee was made fresh and the beer delicious. We ordered a a calzone & Italian combo which we asked to get oven toasted. It was served luke warm as if it had been zapped in the microwave. Both were ok and fresh but nothing spectacular. My calzone was on the small side & the onions inside were not cooked . Will try their burgers next time . read more

Stopped in for a late lunch with my sister-in-law who lives a mile away but my wife and I live in Saint Albans. The menu was insane, in line with the Cheesecake Factory. Bland and restless. We ordered the fried mushrooms to start. They were straight out of a can and not marinated like usual. The mayo dipping sauce was not great as well. Better stick to the standard ranch or blue cheese. I got a wood fired pizza. The crust was not cooked entirley and was doughy.. The cheese I swear was chedder.. It was slimy and the toppings were raw as well. I tried it and thought it was tasteless almost. I thought I was being too critical but my girl friend tried it as well and said the same exact thing. I did not eat much of it.. I have had better frozen pizza or from a gas station. Seriously not good. I've been here several times and never had a stellar meal. It seems the cooks have too many foods to prepare that they cannot focus on making one really good meal. I'd stay away from the alfredo, chicken parmesan and certainly don't waste your money on the garlic knots. I thought this was pretty decent. It wasn't over the top, but I thought it was better than I had expected, based on the price. I was impressed. The staff was super nice, our waitress was great, and we were definitely welcomed back. The decor is wonderful. The place is clean, including the restrooms. For food: the Greek salad with grilled shrimp (no cheese) was really pretty good. Fresh ingredients. My sister got the shepherds one. It was so cozy. Served hot, quite filling. The side salad was a good partne for it. Her boyfriend got the eggplant parmesan. It was kind of bland, he said, but had plenty of sauce and cheese. the place inside was decorated with fireman stuff with other things. nice. there were pet dogs inside with customers which I don't like. the service was very good. the food was good to. got the steak cooked well done and they did a good job with that. the thing I did not like and the other five people did not like was the live music. I cant stand that , we are there to talk and eat. not yell and eat. Oh man, the wood-fired pizza here is the bomb dot com. Get the Albie's Special! It's fontina cheese, prosciutto, and caramelized onion, and it will blow you away! The rest of the menu is a liiiiittle hit or miss. There are SO many items on the menu that it's inevitable they'll have to work with frozen food, and some items reeeeeeally taste it.
