EDIT: Owner responded and said that they were upset that I questioned the cleanliness of the studio because people were putting weights, mats, and towels back in the cubbies where people would normally go get new ones. I saw multiple people look confused as to where to place things back. I asked if there were wipes so I could wipe down my station and was told that the entire studio was disinfected including every single weight, and all towels were washed. I was doubtful since some of the classes on the class schedule were back to back. So basically they're tone policing me and telling me I looked dissatisfied, and then REPORTED me over that. ****I would personally not recommend going to a studio where they ban people for asking questions and being cautious.**** I went to one class and they banned me for asking for help, which is wild. I came early with my coworker and was excited to work out with her. During the class I moved through all the movements and asked for a modification during a lunge. I also asked for help when I wasn't feeling a stretch at the end of class. The instructor simply said "well I guess you just won't feel it then" and walked away. Other than that, I did not interact with the instructor. 2 days later I received an email saying I was banned because of my "behavior toward the instructor." I think this decision was more about the instructor's ego than anything else. I definitely don't recommend coming here unless you are someone with no fitness background and would rather be in silent pain than ask for help. And don't even bother if you have any sort of problems at all! Knee injury? Back pain? "Guess you just won't feel it then." I also want to share that I had an alternative experience at a local yoga studio where I was tentative about things and despite that, everyone made me feel incredibly welcome and invited me back. Even though it wasn't my cup of tea, I gave it a fair shot and have nothing but great things to say about the studio and team there and reviewed it accordingly. It really doesn't have to end this way, but some businesses are just really feedback-averse and that's disappointing to see. read more

A cute and compact little boutique gym that is beginner friendly. I came here to do yoga and it was entry level and NOT heated. This was a big plus for my friend! The studio fit around 10 people for yoga! Mats and towels were provided. This was slow paced and guided, which is why it feels very entry level. Restorative and calming! I booked last minute and arrived just 5 minutes before class started, but the staff was very accommodating and welcoming. This was my very first barre class, and Julian was our instructor. Coming from someone who only does mostly HIIT, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect... but I was pleasantly surprised. Morgan's workout was GREAT & the music was great as well. It's hard to find a studio with music that I like, but I really enjoyed the music selection. I've tried most of their classes, from Signature Barre to Signature HIIT (still closer to barre/pilates than say F45 workouts, just with some more body weight cardio like butt kickers thrown in) to Yoga Fusion (like yoga but with light weights) to Barre Pump (heated to 85F). My favorite instructor is Morgan but all instructors have been friendly with well designed workouts. Logistics: - limited street parking in front, or you can park in the school spots across the street after hours - you must wear grip socks to every class. They have some for purchase if you forget but they are $$$ - all other equipment provided - small lockers available , no personal lock needed - if you arrive early to an early morning class, ring the doorbell to be let in read more

During my first visit I was surprised by how I was left alone to figure things out. I'm used to other studios being pretty aware of when a new client is coming in and they make sure to do a quick rundown and tour of the studio. I was definitely a little lost and I feel like I looked it as well. I figured things out on my own and found the locker to put my things in. I did have to ask if they had a water refill station as I didn't see on in an obvious location. Even after asking where things were that still didn't really prompt the staff to ask if I was new. I went into the studio and put my things down when the instructor just said hi to me and I responded in kind. There were no obvious instructions on what materials I should get for the workout. I only figured it out after watching other people. Eventually after grabbing my things and sitting down I did see the sign near the door where it states what to grab. The workout itself was okay. I was surprised by the lack of modification offerings. I personally view barre workouts as low impact and disability friendly so I was a bit disappointed. Additionally, I'm concerned about injury during the workouts. I've only seen correction three times from about 10 of the classes I've attended, which I'd be skeptical that it's just due to everyone doing things perfectly. There were also a few movements we did with weights that I know if not done properly could cause injury and we weren't warned about common mistakes that could lead to that. I do have a pet peeve about instructors faking counts, so that was an additional negative for me as the first instructor I had, for the class bold, repeated "2" around 4 times before resuming the countdown and releasing us. She also counted differently depending on the workout, it didn't even seem like the difference between counting seconds and counting reps, it was just different every time. During my second class something that irritated me was, during the middle of my class, another employee went into the studio just to take a picture of the instructor and instead of quickly leaving she lingered, walked though the class, and complimented someone's form. To me this was disruptive and uncomfortable especially as after that, her and another employee stared through the glass window watching us workout for a bit. Across the board I felt that the time spent in each side was uneven. I've also noticed that for both classes they tend to focus on one side for a while, doing multiple exercises, then they switch to the other side. I personally don't feel the best doing this method as my muscles get too fatigued. There is one instructor that I truly don't like, Elizabeth S.. It honestly felt like she was there to do her own workout instead of instructing the class. She never made any moves to show how to the workout and basically just narrated her movements as she worked out. I've taken 3-4 of her classes and it was the same every time. With her class I didn't feel there was even a point in being in person, I may as well just look up a workout on Youtube. The studio also runs really hot, especially since I attended my classes during the summer. I was kind of sweating before the workout began and the fans were frequently turned on around the last 10 minutes of class, if at all. This was rough for me as I just kept thinking about how hot it was and wiping myself off as opposed to focusing on the workout. This occurred even in mid-high 80 degree weather. Parking is rough, there's only street parking or I think I've seen others mention parking in other lots nearby. I went for an evening weekday, morning weekend and noon weekdays. The noon weekday was surprising the hardest time to find parking. I'd definitely recommend coming about 15 minutes early to find parking and potentially walk a bit to the studio. Positives: You don't have to clean the mats like other studios have you do and at the end they give you cold towels with essential oils (although this hasn't happened every class). Overall, I signed up for their discounted first month and I'm leaving 2 weeks in because I dread going to this studio. read more

This is my favorite studio I've been to! I went to the HIIT pilates class and my instructor was Karen. My class was at 7:15 and it was easy to find parking in the front of the studio. This studio has been a godsend to me. For many reasons. A variety of instructors that have their own strengths is the most important one. I would like to give a review for Mai Luu. She is an amazing instructor who knows warming up exercises are necessary for class participations. I started taking her classes because I liked the time they were at, but I really enjoy and am invigorated by her classroom environment. Very complete workout on all parts of the body, even areas that don't usually get attention. Love her enthusiasm and the difficulty of her exercises. I initially signed up for labarre due to the variety of classes I saw posted. I have attended thousands of classes over the years and even teach some. My previous Barre studio was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. I miss it terribly. After moving, I was looking for something similar, as I love Barre and Yoga. My first two classes at labarre were online, as I live about 20 minutes from the studio. They were fabulous. I was really excited to attend my first in person class. I left early just in case traffic was bad, which it was. When I got close the directions looped me around the block. The studio was blocked by construction which happens,,,,,no problem. But finding parking was almost impossible with several spots blocked off. I started to panic as I'm normally early. As I passed by several times and down a side street,,,,I found a spot!!! I parked and noticed it was 6:00am!!! I grabbed my water, mat and phone and ran up the street to the door. It was locked which I understand should be at that hour. I knocked then realized there's a bell. I rang. I was greeted with a curt "You're late, class has started" I apologized and said it was my first class, that I had trouble finding parking. The instructor was obviously annoyed with me. She was curt and blurted "Put your things here or in a locker, class has started" Whoa! I stood in the lobby realizing I wanted nothing to do with the attitude or energy that just came at me. I was so excited to start, I was ready! But instantly felt unwelcome. The instructor came out and asked me "Do you need something" . I felt so uncomfortable. A simple come on in would have been great. I quickly apologized again. I told her that maybe I shouldn't be at class and that I had not expected to have that much trouble finding parking. It was my first class. The instructor snapped at me, "Well, we can't control the city" What? Of course not. I have never felt so unwelcome or uncomfortable at a first class. I'm a very punctual and understanding person. I run my own classes. My second online class with labarre started late and I was ok with that,,,,I had to call the studio to get it started. Life happens, it's ok. I'd like the same consideration, just a little. You never get to redo a first impression. This was a horrible first impression. Maybe it was just an off day? Maybe the class is too full? Maybe I just stressed her out? Maybe other people are late? Maybe overwhelmed? I'm not sure? Maybe everyone is frustrated with the city construction? Regardless, I no longer want to attend in person. It was not a good feeling. At all. I will continue online with the other instructor who is amazing. Very welcoming. I'm disappointed and sad, as I thought I found a place to do Barre. Maybe my expectations of finding a friendly place in a new city was just too high? I don't think so. I see many other great reviews. I've been coming to LaBarre for about four months now and it's simply the best Barre studio I've ever experienced after having gone to other franchise places like Pure Barre, Dailey Method, and Barre3. Other studios just don't have the community, warm, and holistic wellness vibes of this non franchise gem. It's the first Barre studio I've felt motivated to commit to because of their amazing intro deal ($49 unlimited for a month!!), friendly instructors, and variety of classes. I've regularly taken the signature Barre and yoga classes, and have had the pleasure of trying out HIIT pilates and drumming during their open house weekends. I've been coming to La Barre for 8 months now and absolutely love it!! The variety of classes is a perfect mix, ranging from high intensity to slow and gentle, I can always find a class to match my energy level for the day. The instructors are always extremely friendly and attentive to all levels of individuals in their classes. I love that each instructor has a different routine and playlist, continues to build upon it over a month, and then changes it up the next month. I've also had a couple of custom facial sessions with Mercedes and she is wonderful as well! When I first joined, I was coming out of a couple of years sprint of grad school and working full time, so I hadn't been great at physically taking care of myself. La Barre and its community made me remember how important it is to move your body and be kind to yourself, meeting it wherever you are for that day. Love this studio! I love the modern grey décor - my dream mansion would include a studio that looked just like this. The barre classes are a great toning work-out and I love that every single class I've been to has been so different- they definitely keep everything new and fun. I haven't been able to go to the drumming classes given my work schedule, but my friend thought that was a great work-out. They allow one full week of free classes so why not give it a try? They also often have groupons for their 5-10 class packs. They provide mini lockers with locks and keys so you don't need to bring one. I also want to add that their childcare option is just so great for moms to get back into, or stay in shape! This was one of the first studios I brought my daughter to. Needless to say she wasn't very happy the first time but they comforted her the entire time the first two times and after that she did great! They have a ton of toys, though the childcare area itself is pretty small. They even have an equipped changing table which is awesome. read more

I'd been coming to labarre for several years now. I actually won a free month's worth of classes at a yelp event. And since then I've been hooked. It was tough during covid but they have a large library of on-demand classes as well as virtual classes. I was lazy and didn't work out too much in the last couple years. But now with "things" are slowly opening up and there's no mask mandates, I've been coming back. They still offer virtual classes in conjunction with in person classes, as well as vaccinated only classes. Last week I found out I'd been to over 100 classes. It adds up. I find each class tough and challenging in their own way. And I'm usually sweating while questioning what I'm doing here as well as doubting I can hold that pose or do 45 seconds of some exercise. But afterwards, I feel great and strong. The instructors are wonderful at motivating you and giving you modifications if you need it. They offer barre, yoga, HIIT and drumming classes - something for everyone. I've tried all the different classes but my favorite is their signature barre classes. When I was going more regularly, I found myself getting stronger and more toned. It was nice. It's a great community with amazing instructors and they also offer a variety of services like acupuncture, massages, facials, lashes and chiropractor. Totally recommend to everyone. read more

I have been scoping this place out since they were under construction but I was very pregnant and had to wait to be cleared for post partum exercise. I stopped by ahead of time and was elated to hear they offered child care starting at 6 weeks of age. The owner, Lisa, was super friendly as were all the staff. I was able to take my first week of classes for free under their introductory offer. I took 4 the first week, each with different instructors. I enjoyed all of them and their unique styles. My son did the child care three times with 3 different lovely ladies and they took great care of him. I am hooked and signed up for unlimited. The classes are great and I enjoy how my muscles ache in new places after but I don't feel like I'm hurting too bad. The low impact aspect makes it doable for everyone. The music is fun and the studio is really nice. I have now been going here since October and have continued to love it. It is very family friendly. I appreciate the fully equipped diaper changing table! Update 2/20- been going for over two years with my son in childcare. All the instructors are great. Classes are great. Facility is great. I followed my favorite yoga instructor, Grace, to LaBarre and was pleasantly surprised to find the next level of my recovery from my knee replacement surgery. Grace has been a source of inspiration and education for me and so many others. She doesn't just instruct, she teaches you how to care for and improve your body. Her ability to provide individual attention in a group setting is truly impressive. But above all else, Grace deeply cares about her students and their health and well-being. This is why when my insurance refused to pay for continued physical therapy, Grace suggested I receive a sports massage from the massage therapist at Lebarre, Wallie. Wallie helped me recover where physical therapy failed me. Its been 6 months since my knee replacement and I feel great! I can do so much and I owe a lot of thanks to the two of them. read more

She had a good sense of humor making jokes and connecting with us as best as she could under the circumstances. The studio is drop dead gorgeous. It has great energy in small details e.g. the lockers have inspirational quotes. Therefore, the moment you step in there you are being motivated. The studio seems fairly remodeled. Fusion between ballet and strengthening/conditioning exercises. She did a GREAT job at incorporating some ballet but only noticeable to those who are familiar to it. LaBarre is an all-stop, one-stop holistic boutique. I was first attracted to LaBarre for classes, services and amenities offered here. I love the community here from the instructors, to wellness providers, to management. Lisa (owner) does a great job making her members feel inclusive. There are many community events at LaBarre which I love because events build camaraderie within San Jose and its community. There's always someone at the front desk and there's (drumroll please....) CHILDCARE - which makes working out accessible and convenient! I've had the pleasure of enjoying some of services offered here at LaBarre. MASSAGE: * MACALYAN - I had a hour long Swedish massage with MACALYAN after my Chiro appointment with Dr. Kimia. I came in with lots of shoulder tension, tight hips, and ached feet. Needless to say, I left feeling lighter than when I first walked in. Macaylan took her time on me (automatic 5-star). She has strong hands which is what I like and what my body needs. I def will come back to her if/when I need someone to dig deep into my muscles. * Wallie (Alyssa) -OMG! Wallie is great at massage. Like Macaylan, Wallie has strong hands. I had a 30 min massage from her after my barre class and my goodness... was that amazing?!?! Wallie knew exactly which areas were problematic and worked on them accordingly. The night before I had a headache that was penetrating on the left side of my head and neck and she took that knot out!! I was so impressed on how strong yet restorative she was. After my massage all I wanted to do was hug the massage chair. WAXING W/ LORENA! Omg. Lorena is amazing! She is so detailed oriented. I had an eyebrow waxing appointment with her. We had such a great conversation and unlike many waxing appointment I've had in the past, she makes the process so soothing and relaxing. She's so gentle and truly knows what she's doing. I can't wait to get a brazillian and legs waxed by her!! CHIROPRACTIC W/ KIMIA! Kimia is GREAT at what she does! I've never been to a chiropractor before until I starting coming to LaBarre. I really didn't know what to expect in my first appointment but I just knew I had to experience it for myself. I came in apprehensive yet open-minded. My initial visit with Kimia turned me on and now I can't stop going back. The first time I saw her I had just got a massage two days before but still felt a little "tense" in my shoulders. She adjusted my neck and it made a huge cracking sound that I felt from my base of my head down to my neck and into my shoulders. It was the most painless, restorative, relieving experience of my life. Since then I've had some cupping, some service using the "theragun" - overall, I am so pleased with my experience with Dr. Kimia. In sum, LaBarre is one of the best studios in the Bay Area, let alone, San Jose. Looking forward to more services, events, and memories here at LaBarre. Labarre is an amazing studio! I've been going here for about 4 months and my body feels stronger and looks more toned. Pros: - Variety of instructors, each with different styles and difficulty levels - I recommend trying out various classes to find which works best for you - Convenient range of class times - Wellness services on-site such as facials and massages (if you purchase the monthly membership, services are 20% off which makes pricing competitive to other places) - Super clean, from the bathrooms to exercise room - All equipment is provided - I like that they have weights starting from 1 lb in 1-lb increments - Online booking and class schedule - Friendly staff Cons (if I'm being picky): - Parking can be difficult sometimes, but that's a given with the neighborhood. There's a school parking lot across the street that is available, but waiting for the traffic light to walk across the street can take a while. There's an underground crosswalk, but it can smell like urine sometimes. I also don't use it at night due to safety concerns, but that could just be me. - No shower facilities (would be convenient for morning classes) Overall, I highly recommend checking out Labarre (there's a Groupon)! read more
