Mama Mio! If you're in Clonakilty and fancy a pizza head straight to Mio without delay!…read more After visiting the last in a looooong line of the fella's relatives residing in West Cork, we had Barry's tea coming out of our ears (not that I'm complaining!) and were ready for some dinner. It was gone 9pm on a Sunday so we were unsure we'd find anything open, alas Mio shone out through the dark and rainy night. We entered the restaurant to the sound of Bob Dylan and were greeted by a tiny, very smiley lady who seated us and took our order - one American Hot pizza and the pizza on the specials board - red onion marmalade, feta and sun-dried tomatoes. When the pizzas arrived we were delighted - they couldn't possibly have been more generous with the toppings! There was feta-galore on the special and a pepperoni bomb had exploded all over the American Hot. We ordered 2 side salads which were also generous (although do specify if you don't want red onion - there was a lot). The pizzas were home made so the base was lovely and thin with just the right amount of softness and crispiness. My only issue is that I'm pretty sure the toilets are haunted - they're located just upstairs from the restaurant and although they were very clean and nice I'm convinced there was a ghostly presence. It followed me back down the stairs and gave me the chills. Still, can't be helped I suppose! And with pizzas that good I'm willing to put up with the spirits!

We stopped here on a Tuesday night in late December. There were three tables with customers,…read more including our table. We were seated by the server and proceeded to wait...and wait. After watching one customer go to the bar to get his check, we agreed to wait five more minutes for the server to take our drink order...or to at least offer us some water. We were on minute four of five, when we saw the server go wait on a table that had just been seated. At this point, we got up and left. If you value your time and money, as this restaurant did not, skip this place.

There was nothing about this place that I didn't enjoy. Everything from the hospitality to the meal…read morewas absolutely phenomenal. What caught my attention as I was browsing restaurants on the web was their extensive, separate vegan menu, which includes a handful of delightful desserts. I started with the tomato basil soup which was very tasty. For my main course I had the vegan Bolognese which was accompanied by vegan garlic bread and was very happy with it. They were so kind to let me taste the vegan mozzarella they make in house and after 3 and a half years of being vegan I can honestly say it was the best vegan mozzarella I have ever tasted. I ended with the vegan chocolate cake which was served with a very delicious fruit of the forest ice cream. It was almost brownie-like and there was no shortage of chocolate. I could have licked the plate clean. My brother had the lasagna on the main menu and said it was in the top three lasagnas that he has had in the WORLD. His wife had the Tagliatelle Mari & Monti who said it was absolutely delightful and not too fishy. They also finished with a chocolate cake (which was not vegan) and said it was delicious. Everyone was very kind, including the owners daughter, whose name I unfortunately did not catch. The food was so good I envisioned moving here and eating here every week. Extremely thrilled I convinced them to accompany me at this wonderfully delightful restaurant. I will be back in the near future and already cannot wait!

Very impressed only complaint is that there is currently no early bird menu for vegan menu. Kids eat free Sunday which is great for family's.

"THE BEST FULL IRISH IN THE COUNTRY!!!!"…read more 5 Stars. Five. If I could give more I would. If you love breakfast, you need to take a trip to Midleton, Co Cork. At The Pantry, you'll be served what can only be described as The most serious contender for BEST FULL IRISH IN THE COUNTRY!!!! This is not something I take lightly. I have enjoyed far too many a Full Irish's up and down our fair island...and I'm not joking - SO MANY breakfasts. But never have been inspired to put my feelings about any meal in writing...nevermind post them online. Until now. I first wandered into The Pantry just over a year ago looking for a breakfast...we were met a smile and welcome from Gordon who runs the show. He was quick to find us a comfortable table with plenty space for our buggy (a high chair was available but we didn't need it) and to bring us some tea and coffee (both great by the way). We each ordered the Full Irish. Breakfasts are cooked to order and service is efficient and attentive. Food arrived in good time. Respectively, each item on each plate was cooked perfectly. Food was out of a frying pan and not a deep fryer. Each meal came with tea/coffee and toast...as it should do. We got to speak with Gordon after our meal. He told us about his experience running the The Pantry, about how they bake their own bread daily, about all the different local suppliers..for the sausages, for the bacon, for the pudding, etc. The Pantry is a bright and welcoming cafe/bistro serving a tempting variety of foods throughout the day. Go for a coffee and a cake of go for The BEST FULL IRISH you're ever likely to be served...go for the welcome alone...just go. FIVE STARS. 5! Following that, and in the interest of a fair and impartial review, I should mention the negatives: Each time I visit, I can't help but be reminded of the fact that I live 161 and a half miles away (260km)...and I can never help but think about how long it might be before I'll be able to get another breakfast here. That's me. That's my review. Cheers Gordo. You're the man.
