The tableside guacamole was wonderful, with large portions at a great price. The staff was courteous and helpful from the moment we walked in, and our server was excellent throughout the meal. Try not to fill up on the chips and salsa, because the entrées are super‑sized. The wings were surprisingly really good--even though we know they're not exactly Mexican. The burritos and tacos were delicious, fresh, and very satisfying. We just wish we had more room to eat! We'll definitely be back. Great value and very authentic. read more

Surprisingly delicious considering past yelp reviews. They seated us quickly and immediately brought fresh chips and salsa. We order fresh guacamole. They made is tableside and it was delicious. It would have been better if the ingredients setup didnt block our view but not a big deal. Everyone mostly enjoyed their food and drinks. The margaritas and bar drinks were excellent. My son loved his texas fajitas. My husband and other son loved their vegetarian combo plates. I ordered shrimp & scallops fajitas. My bad for not asking whether they were sea or bay scallops. They were tiny overcooked, rubbery, bay scallops that were fishy and inedible, but the shrimp and all the sides (beans, grilled onions &peppers, tortillas, etc) were all very tasty. The service was funny. We were seated and served very quickly. They did tableside guacamole very well and refilled our chips & salsa. They brought our entrees quickly as well... then they never came back. I was fine that they didnt check in with us but we had to wait forever to get a check. I'd definitely come back. They got all the hard stuff right... next time skip the scallops (but really, how dumb was i for ordering scallops in a Mexican restaurant?) Lol. read more

Alicinda is a kind and respectful person. My husband pulled the car around and she helped me to my car. I wanted to send this to the Truitt street location, it or any other location would not let it go through. You don't find many people these days that are kind and caring. I was in a near fatal car accident December 2 2024. I went from a wheelchair, to walker, and now a cane. I still have a hard time walking and another major surgery June 12 th. Alicinda deserves a raise and at the least acknowledgement for the kindness she did for me. We will be returning here. Keep up the good work Alicinda you are awesome. read more

Excellent food - Lovely staff - I love the atmosphere and will definitely go back. What I like is that a vegetarian can find plenty of choices, although cheese enchiladas are usually my choice! read more

Need to update menu to remove items no longer available. Overall could use some updating but service was fast and waitress very pleasant.

horrible experience the waitress got my order wrong, asked for chicken tacos and got beef tacos.. she waited at least 15-20 minutes to come back to the table to ask how everything was going so I could re order the chicken tacos i asked for .. so when I finally got the chicken tacos a BONE was in the taco.. I can't make this up had to take a picture.. and she wouldn't even take the chicken tacos off the bill.. will truly never go back again hope everyone sees this and considers going to PLAZA any location highly recommended read more

We were all in the mood for Mexican food today. We ordered" to go " from La Tolteca on Rte. 50 in the Bury. Since this is my friends favorite Mexican restaurant and was her choice, she said she would pick it up. She said the restaurant was packed at lunch and the parking lot was full for a weekday. They have lots of lunch specials Mon.-Fri. from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. FYI you can get the lunch special price to go as well. I got the taco salad with chicken and my other 2 friends got the chicken and chorizo burrito. All the food was so good! The taco salad was super fresh, and the bowl was ultra- crispy and bubbly. My friends said the burritos were spicy and had just enough heat. I really enjoyed the fact they each one of us got a brown BAG of tortilla chips complimentary with each our entrees with salsa and that Mexican white sauce. The Mexican white sauce is a sauce that's often served at some Mexican restaurants on the east coast. It's made up of miracle whip, milk, and spices. The portions of food are humongous, and you will have leftovers. I ordered a side of guacamole, and it was so good I could have eaten it with a spoon. read more

Great spot! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The staff is super nice. Was happy to see a list of vegetarian options but it wasn't much compared to the rest of the menu. The margaritas are a hit (you're definitely going to get more than 1)! The one thing I will definitely be coming back for is the chips, salsa, and the white sauce... I don't know what the white sauce is consisted off, but it is so good, a second round was needed! Will be back again :) read more

Food tasted old and most definitely reheated. The soda taste like it was in a glass that was not rinsed properly.

Great dinner with some old friends! Food was authentic and reasonably priced! Outstanding service to cap off the evening!

Food quantity and taste not fresh. Disappointed having simple cheese enchiladas rice and beans combination. The red sauce tasted like it sat in a can too long. Sorry not for me. read more

I made a reservation here for 13 people upstairs. Coming in and getting seated was a breeze as they were already expecting us. Instead of our table having enough seating for 13 it was for 7. Since no hostess was available and no one ever greeted us or showed us to our seats we found another table and just pushed it over to connect along with the chairs. After 12 minutes of being seated we continued to see 3 waiters busily serving other guests however we were never greeted. I decided to go downstairs and speak with the manager who stated he would have someone take care of us only then we're we served. The drinks were great but the food was bland. My beef taco had the most taste as my Texas fajitas left much to be desired and the guacamole was extremely runny. Would yo back for the drinks but not the food. We were there to have a ladies night so each other's company and no husbands or kids made us happy along with alcohol. read more

So this place looks promising, probably more than what it is, the inside is spacious and staff is nice and rather quick I must say, but the food is more tex mex than Mexican, if you are like me and look for tacos in a Mexican restaurant don't come here because they don't have all of them, just ground beef and chicken, it reminded me of a boujee taco bell more than anything, the fajitas tasted ok read more

Had Carnitas with was the worst representation of the dish I've ever had. It was just fried hard pork. No flavor what so ever. The rice and beans were fair at best. I give the meal a 1. The waiter said this is how it's prepared here and they sell a lot of it. I've traveled through Mexico San Diego, LA and a numerous cities on the east coast and have never had this dish presented so bad. read more

The owner and the waitress were friendly and the Mexican themed decor inside is cool . Happened to stop by because we were staying in Salisbury after the beach. The food was actually pretty good jus missing some bold Mexican flavors you would expect. the table they provided for a group of 6 was small but the waitress wAs nice. But the reason for the 3-star rating is because the food to me was just okay. It is rated highly but maybe people living in this area just don't know what good Mexican food really is. read more

Wow! Hubby's lunch steak burrito was as big as a meat loaf!! He said it was delicious. My two chicken fajitas were almost as big as the aforementioned burrito. La Tolteca Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Salisbury, Maryland

TLDR: Overpriced for food that isn't that great. Save your money by either going to a different Mexican restaurant or cooking at home. Even the chips, salsa, & mysterious white sauce are not good. Decided to go here with my mom and dad since it was new. Previously I had drove by and wondered how the food was so I looked at the reviews and they weren't too good so when we came back (because my parents wanted to), I looked up the reviews again and they were still not that great. However, I like to make my own decisions so we decided to give them a try. First of all, let's talk about their chips and salsa and the mysterious white sauce. The chips at first were okay but the second batch we got were burnt and left a bitter taste even after we left the restaurant. The salsa was okay, really nothing special just something you could buy in the chips aisle of a grocery store. The white sauce...I'm not sure what it was? I thought it tasted like watered down ranch but my mom said it tasted like mayonnaise. It was also spicy which was just really odd. So the chips, salsa, and mysterious white sauce were a 2/10 for me. They were playing loud music but it would suddenly stop for about a minute and then start again. That happened probably 5 times throughout our dining experience. It was distracting and annoying after about the second time. Also the booth was really uncomfortable. For some reason, the booths that were on the outsides had really short seats so you had to sit straight up. Moving on, because the reviews weren't that great and their dishes entirely were a little on the overpriced side, I decided not to get my go-to Mexican order of Carne Asada (also the picture of their Carne Asada did not look appetizing), and instead I got #22 which was a combo of their taco, burrito, and Chile relleno (all beef). My dad got the same thing as me and my mom decided to get the fish tacos. It took quite a while for our food to get to us. When we did get it, it actually looked pretty appetizing. But...it wasn't that good. I dug into my taco first and it was not good, I could make better tacos at home. The meat was seasoned well but it had such a weird texture. It was so crumbly and I don't know why. My chile relleno was over cooked and mushy and my burrito was soggy and basically a chimichanga (I don't know why they call it a burrito when it's open on both ends and covered in sauce and literally only had meat and cheese on and inside it). I soon realized that they just used the same beef for every single thing on my plate. It was all just soggy and crumbly. Soo not good!! My mom actually liked her fish tacos but the pico de Gallo they gave her tasted old. Usually onions have a nice bite and crunch to them but these ones just tasted soft and old. Overall it's just a waste of money because most people can either go to another restaurant where things aren't so overpriced or just cook it at home and it would be much better. Please save your money. read more

We have been going here for years, because the food has always been good, and its a good value. Last week our server was Ryan, who did a great job. Over the years, there have been times when I felt we waited too long for the Check but in 2018 it's never happened. I usually like to order something from the Seafood part of the Menu and it always tastes very fresh and well made. I love their large draft Mexican beer, but on Tuesday the Lime Margarita special is my favorite. The free chips are always fresh and home made, which is another reason I plan on coming back for years to come. read more

Moderately clean, adequate food, and RUDE service I got the burrito supreme, the burrito tasted like beef soup. The beef in the burrito was a mixture of found and string, very weird. The rice tasted like sweet bread, very disappointing. However, the portions were modest. Most of the plate was lettuce. For the restaurant, the floors had food on them and the ceilings had stains. The waiter that gave us our food paid more attention to some girl than he did to anyone else. When he brought us our food he said very little and in a hurry to get back to talking to that girl. He was mad and had an big attitude. read more

Salisbury's *BEST* Mexican Restaurant! Service is very friendly, and *fast* for a restaurant. Most of the waiters speak little Engish, but there are a few that are well versed in English. If you must, simply ask for a server that speaks English well, to help you through the menu. After being seated, you are served complimentary chips and salsa, with the bonus of a bowl of "salsa blanca", a savory yet cooling white sauce to dip your chips in, along with a nice, fresh salsa. The red salsa comes in a small bottle that you pour into a bowl, filling it at least 2 times. You'll run out of chips before the salsa. I would rate the salsa's heat at just barely medium heat. For you chileheads out there, ask for the salsa verde! It's a green salsa, made with tomatillos, and is very hot, with a fresh taste. The 2 bottles of hot sauce at the table include the venerable Cholula Hot Sauce and El Yucateco's Salsa Picante de CHILE HABANERO, a *very* hot sauce. Appetizers - we've tried the stuffed shrimp with Monterey Jack... they're awesome, and we like the stuffed Jalapenos too. One app not to order is the "Tostada con Queso" ($2.75). You will get ONE 6 inch corn tortilla, with a smattering of queso cheese on it. If you want a warm/hot cheese to dip into, ask for the "Cheese Dip" (translation= cheese dip). *That's* the queso dip you are thinking of! Wifey loves the #129 Burro Grande (Big Burrito -$9.95): * Large burrito stuffed with grilled beef (or chicken), onions, tomatoes and bell peppers. * Topped with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream. * Served with rice and beans I've ordered the #114 Taquitos Mexicanos ($8.50) too many times. * 4 fried taquitos (corn tortillas) = * 2 shredded beef * 2 chicken * Served with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream I wish we had just shared the Burro Grande, as it's enough food for 2, and the grilled beef is sooo flavorful. It has all the flavor of fajitas, already wrapped and ready to eat! The grilled beef is like tiny beet tips, with all the seasoning and flavor of the fajitas, already assembled and ready to eat, and a few bucks cheaper! They have Dos Equis (XX) on tap, as well as other boring American brews like Bud, Bud Light, Mich Light, & Coors Light. In bottles, there's a dozen or so Cervezas and domestics too. All beers are served super cold with a frosted mug, something you don't see often. Their Margaritas are big and delicious! I'm a purist, but you can get Margaritas as Strawberry, Raspberry, Peach, Coconut, or Lime. They offer 3 sizes: Regular: * 14oz - $4.95 * 19oz - 6.25 * Pitcher - 18.95 Gold: * 14oz - 5.95 * 19oz - 6.95 * Pitcher - 21.95 They have tons of cheap lunch specials... and are very popular with the local business-lunch crowd. The Specialties of the House are really varied, with 3 different samplers, fried or soft chimichangas, enchiladas, nachos, chalupas, burritos and much more. And the Combo Dinners are always a great value ($7.95-8.95). Sides - Pico de Gallo ($.95) is very heavy on the onion. Probably not the best pico de gallo I've had. I guess the Sides are a crap shoot. Also, there's a Children's Menu @ $3.95 for kids 10 and under for you Mexicana Familias out there. Located in town on US 50 (Business) and 110 Truitt St, this place is very colorful, always busy, and never disappoints. read more

During my last trip to Salisbury, my friend and I decided to meet at La Tolteca for lunch. For those unfamiliar with the establishment, it is really hard to miss on Rt. 50 thanks to its distinguishable building and color. Upon walking in the door, yes the restaurant looks small since there is a small dining room on the first floor. However, the bar and more tables are upstairs. At any rate, we were seated very quickly next to the roaring fireplace (gas) that was perfect on a cold and rainy winter day. We were served water along with chips, salsa and the infamous white sauce shortly thereafter. I'm pretty sure the white sauce recipe is guarded secretly, but you can always purchase it by the tub on your way out the door. I ordered the Speedy Gonzalez off the lunch menu that consisted of an enchilada and a hard taco. I opted for chicken that had mixed chiles in it and was seasoned just enough to give it some kick, but not overbearing. The mole sauce on the enchilada was delicious and it also came with the choice of refried beans or rice. I opted for the refried beans. For the price - the three of us ate for well under $30 for lunch, it can't be beat. I wish there were more lunch options, but overall it is great to cure your hankering for Mexican food! read more

Pretty nice spot. Now this is in Salisbury mind you. I think the only residents there either work on a chicken farm or go/work at the college. If I didn't have to pass through there to get to the beach I wouldn't have known it existed. "Well there is a Salisbury bypass" you might say to yourself, and you would be right. But that is a snooty thought and you should be ashamed of yourself. The food was much better than I anticipated. I know Mexican food as growing up I had eaten at many fine Mexican restaurants. Such as Olive Garden, TGI Fridays, and Ruby Tuesdays. I had the Enchiladas and my friend had some tacos and quesadillas. All the dishes were prepared very well and I enjoyed them a great deal. I am actually very particular of my guacamole and theirs was awesome. As a tip: Order by the numbers. Our waiter seemed to struggle a great deal with the English or I was very drunk. Probably both. I should have typed this first but if you are trying to waste time coming back to Baltimore from Ocean City this is the spot. read more

La Tolteca is the best south of the border, east of the bay. Upon our arrival to this resturant we were seated and waited on quickly. The staff who are bilingual were pleasant and knowledgable of their product. We ordered and were brought complimentary chips, salsa and an unknown white spicy sauce that was a highlight of our visit. Our food came quickly, chimichangas and a quesadea, both dishes were hot and well prepared. We left full and gave our waiter a generous tip as he catered to our every request. The food here is given in abundance and you should not leave here hungry. This was a great experience and we will return. read more

Sadly, even through this place offers "vegetarian" options, they are cooked on the same grills, in the same pans and pots as the meat options, without them being washed. It's like ordering french fries with the promise of it being vegetarian, but being cooked in lard. NOT VEG. I do not recc this place if you are vegetarian or vegan. read more

I was meeting up with an old school friend for dinner, and since she lives nearby she recommended La Tolteca. First of all, I like that they have a large parking lot across from the building.....very easy to navigate, and very easy to find this place off of Route 50. The decor was very nice, and the staff were friendly and quick to seat us. First of all, they don't just bring chips & salsa, they also have some kind of white yogurt-consistency dipping sauce that is delicious! I have no idea what's in it, but I do highly recommend it. My friend recommended the "guacamole salad". Not being a big guac fan, I was a little hesitant, but she assured me that it was amazing, so I agreed. I don't think I'd call it amazing, but it was edible and tolerable, which is more than I can say for most guac that I've been forced to try. So I guess for someone who likes guac, it probably IS amazing. She and her husband got the fajitas for two, and the portions were HUGE. They both ate and still had a lot left over to take home for the next day. I opted for the mango chicken, which was surprisingly very tasty and a large enough portion that I was also able to take some home and have it for lunch the next day. Prices were a little on the high side for Mexican food, but not too unreasonable. I don't get through Salisbury very often, so I don't know if or when I'll be back, but if you do happen to be going through and a have a little bit of time to eat, I'd recommend stopping and giving them a try. read more

Very friendly staff. Like at any Mexican restaurant, you get chips and fresh salsa (white sauce), however, I like to order the jalapeño cheese sauce and spicy salsa sauce...they are sooo good! The wait time depends on what time you go, most of the times it's been about 15 - 20 mins after ordering the food. Which is alright, as I am enjoying their mango margarita! It's delish! Lol. Overall, this place is a gem, they have special happy hour discounts with their margarita pitchers....great place to go to for Mexican night! :) read more

Maybe I'm just biased because I'm from Texas, but the food here was pretty awful. I went shortly after opening on Sunday for lunch and ordered the second largest combo platter so that I could sample a wide variety of their menu offerings. Chips were thick and okay, but the salsa was purely mediocre and the creamy white sauce that came with it was interesting, but not my favorite. As far as the entree went, the refried beans were pretty gross: thin with a funky light pinkish color and very bland. The rice was pretty average and standard. The tamale was probably the best thing, but even that had a corn layer that was a bit too thick. The enchilada was pretty bland and flavorless as the filling could have used some seasoning... salt... something was definitely missing. The guacamole had been sitting out a bit too long, as it had already started to turn quite brown. The taco was pretty standard, although I can honestly say I've had better at Taco Bell. Maybe the margaritas would have made the food taste better, but I can't attest to that. I'll probably never come back here unless a friend insists on it. read more

Ordered the Chori-Pollo and it was very good. Large portions of food (almost too much) and the flavor was great. It was a little different compared to other restaurants as they put pineapples on top of the chorizo. The waitress, LiLi, was very polite and stopped by several times to make sure everything was good. This is the third time I've eaten here in 2 years while working in the area and I look forward to coming back next time. read more

The only mex place I go to when I'm visiting my in laws in salisbury. They have good drinks, fresh table side guac, and decent food for Salisbury. My husband thinks they make their white sauce with crack. It's a bit too sweet for me but he likes it. I'm not huge on mex but this place is okay and the portions are a good size. I got their mango salsa chicken without the mango salsa bc I'm not a fan, along with a side of veggies which was too much for me to finish. The chicken itself was flavorful. Veggies seemed overly cooked. My husband got the ground beef burrito and taco. I didn't think it had much flavor unless u added the hot red and green sauce they have to it. read more
