This place was far from good was there 3/6/26. The chips and salsa we received needed to be sent back. Something crawling in them we could not eat replacements were grease and salsa was just OK. I ordered burrito Azteca the white cheese sauce was not good and the flavor or the meat was like that of old oil. My husband ordered the Burrito Mexicanos- beef and the beef was very hard to cut and even worse to chew. Definitely not a go back location. The decor and restaurant old and a bit dirty. I've been a La Tolteca Stan since 2020. My husband is from VA Beach where the white sauce flows like wine, and it's hard to find around here, but La Tolteca has it ( so ask for it if you don't already). We usually rely on this place for fast, fairly priced food and have loved it. On our most recent visit, the menus were new and the prices were hiked up pretty significantly. A kids meal was ~13, which might be the highest priced kids meal ive ever seen. I will say, the fries and tenders were delicious and it was a heavy serving but wowZerSs. I asked if the menu had changed and the server said yes and they were under new management. Everything I've had is great and we will always be back, just maybe not as frequently. read more

I was very excited for some fish tacos. Now the tacos weren't bad, they could use a little more flavor and I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese they used. The tomatoes were regular tomatoes and the yellow rice was also okay. I think with a little more seasoning the tacos and rice would have been better. The salsa on the other hand was SPOT on. I love me a good chips and salsa moment. I do want to give this place another try because the inside was very cute and the staff was nice too. I took my food to go and the park I decided to eat at was about a 8minute drive. Food is not flavorful. Just because they have so many different options does not mean it is good. I'll start with the chips and salsa, how can you go wrong? The salsa was just red sauce, lacking salt and spices to make it an authentic Mexican salsa. You get better flavor from a jar at the super market. The service didn't make it any better, they checked on me by saying "everything good" I was confused because it wasn't a question and I SPEAK SPANISH! COME ON MAN! I told my server that I didn't like the soup and she just said "ok" walked away and came back with check, she took the soup off but if she would have asked me why, I would have told her and I wouldn't be writing this review. La Tolteca is probably one of the better Mexican restaurants in the cockeysville area that actually serves authentic tacos for an affordable price and has great happy hour deals. I come to the cockeysville location often and have ordered a few different menu items however the tacos are always the star. I got an order of the street tacos with one carne asada and two carnitas which comes with cilantro and onion. The green salsa is perfectly mild and the flavors are fresh. The Birria tacos were absolutely delicious, I could drink the consume! With the complimentary chips and salsa this meal was filling. The chips are served fresh and I usually order a side of the white sauce. Drinks were served cold and the service was relatively quick given the amount of tables. The place has decorative booth artwork and the staff are always friendly. I am taking away one star for overall cleanliness, the tables and menus were a bit sticky but that's an easy fix. read more

I went to order and pick up a Taco Salad from La Toteca in Cockeysville about 20 minutes ago. Simple right? NOT! Back Story: This was my 2nd time in as many weeks coming to this Restaurant for lunch carryout and like last time, I ordered the Taco Salad, no beans, extra cheese. 1st time- no problem. Paid $12 and some change. Cool. Today, however, the young lady taking my order said my total was $15 something. I said it was $12 something last time. She went on to say we have a Taco Salad Meal. When asked what was the difference in the lunch Taco Salad and that one she said, It's bigger. Looking puzzled I said really? She then told me my total was $14.08 and asked if I was paying cash or card. I said cash because the last time they added a service charge to my card that they fail to mention will be added. She placed my order in Espanol and brought out a bag to me along with my 92 cents change (no receipt) within 3 minutes tops. Cool. I asked if I could use one of the green bottles of hot sauce on the table and she said it would be $1 and something extra. I said to sprinkle some hot sauce! She said give me a minute. That is when I decided to open the bag and check out my Salad. WHY had they literally, sprinkled a bit of cheese on top of my tomato (you know you only get one, right?) and no where else. I was in utter disbelief! I immediately started taking pictures of it and poking around trying to find more cheese. Nada! When asked where was my cheese she went and got a guy from the back who proceeded to tell me my cheese was in the little cup. I said that's the "extra" cheese I paid for. The salad is supposed to have cheese on it, too. He went back and forth as I assured him that I've been eating Taco Salads for a very long time and I know that this is not cool. He said, I'll "give" you a 2 ounce cup of cheese. The audacity! He acted as if he was doing me a favor by "giving" me what I had paid for in the 1st place! I told him in no uncertain terms that this was not cool and I could guarantee him I would not be back! EVER! To be fair, I've never eaten in at this place , so I can't speak to that, but I can say I know shady business practices when I encounter them. All of this over cheese?! Carnitas were tender and portion size was mnot a disappointment. So sorry to have been a bother to the staff. Evidently we came in during their break to eat chick fil a. Husband and I went to wash our hands before taking seats at the bar and ... two of the stalls in the women's bathroom were clogged and about to overflow and the other well I'd like to not mention how gross. I had the Hawaiian Fajitas, which was chicken, shrimp, onions, peppers and chunks of pineapple in a scooped out pineapple, yummy! It was well seasoned and very tasty. It came with a side of refried beans and rice. My Husband ordered the Street Tacos which was also good too. I didn't care for the Salsa and Chips. We decided to give it another shot a month or so ago, and it was night and day from our experiences last July. Food is great. Drinks are great. Whole place seems to be running efficiently again. Better yet, the prices brought a smile to my face. Gio was our server. Nice guy. Attentive and courteous. Chips and red and blanco sauces served as our appetizer. Yummy. Between the five of us we ordered the Grande Special, grilled chicken salad, grilled tilapia platter, carne asada and Texas fajitas. The portions were huge and the food was excellent. We're already off to a good start. The chips and salsa were clearly freshly made with just a hint of spice. Now the BEST part was the taco platter. Usually very good, but on Feb. 14th, at lunch, we had the slowest waitress ever. Food was also mediocre. Totally disappointed.

Tasteless food with misleading menus. Even the fried ice cream was a disappointment. (Thin crisp, stale churros.) I ordered many items and all was a let down. I only sent one dish back but in my heart I wanted to send back everything we ordered. To make matters worse, we received TERRIBLE service. The waitress sat us in a far back corner and hardly ever came back to check in. I watched many other people be served by their waiters, including those who came after us. A few of them had to check on us, but only did so much because they had their own tables. I waited SO LONG for my server to come back that my food got cold. Then there were no servers around to ask for help. I actually had to call the restaurant number and all the hostess to send me my waiter. And when she did vine she had mad attitude. Then she stopped coming, and i believe it was either a cook or a bar back started taking our orders. His excuse was that she is taking a break and eating, it's been a long day for her. To be clear, I was not a difficult patron. I was a slow orderer (unfamiliar with the menu and foods) but I was never rude to her until she started being rude toward me.
