    Octopus
    Alvin M.

Came here for a weeknight dinner. Plenty of open tables. Simple decor. Staff were quick and very nice. Food was a winner here. The octopus was tender, perfectly cooked, tasty, and much larger than the usual small octopus portions you get at most restaurants. My skirt steak was also tender, juicy and flavorful. They had a surprisingly nice selection of draft beer, including local and international breweries. Would definitely go back here

PROS: The staff was very nice, food tasted fresh, prices were good, menu had many sections, food came out quickly, and good atmosphere CONS: only 3-4 choices per section on the menu and there's only street parking OVERALL: I recommend coming here since everything about this place is great. Their sister restaurant is in Tenafly

Had the fresh Branzino for dinner, it was amazing. It's nice to have a Resturant close to home that serves delicious food with a family atmosphere and fantastic service.

Wonderful time at La Taberna their first sip and painting class -first time doing this activity with family and friends. Such a great experience as you see the painting evolve to the end -thank you Taberna for letting brushes and berries use your space for a very fun night -and at the end some of the girls had a very nice drinks and appetizers . Thank you Patricio for being so attentive.

    Sangria

Before I begin my review, I must admit that I'm the worse at remembering to take pics before eating, so the pics are already after my party began to eat. So, for my review, this place is really good. I have only complaint and that is their crème brûlée; stay away from it. It's not the traditional tasting/texture. It's more of a Spanish style that I tasted in Spain. Anyways, paella and appetizers were really good. The grilled octopus melts in your mouth; it's so soft and easy to eat. The sangria was also perfect. The service is excellent even with a fairly busy time; waiters/busboys were very attentive. Ambiance was comfy; reminds me of a pub look. All-in-all, I highly recommend this place.

Good food and service Just don't ask for hot sauce other than Tabasco It will be a side order charge

Nice and quaint atmosphere in my opinion. Gives me the feel at home vibes. Service was excellent and welcoming. No pretensions ... Non-judgmental. Their freshly baked roll for starters was the start. Steaks were cooked on point on a sizzling rectangular plate. Price ... spend $155 for all this food including pitcher of white sangria. Highly recommend this place.

I was back at my loc spot a few days ago and like always got great service and a good time. I was drinking margaritas all night as they were so good I couldn't stop. The bar was packed all night and the DJ was playing some great music. I always have a good time at this spot.

Good service, the food was pretty good, too. I was happily surprised with this place. There was a DJ playing in the bar area when I went on a weekend night. The decor was nicer than I expected for a small town spot. Seems like a good pick for a date night or dinner and drinks. Family friendly but nice enough for a night out with just adults.

Stopped by last week on a weeknight. Great service, good food, spotless and friendly. Will definitely try again. The sever was superb and didn't rush us and was super attentive. I am a local and want to see businesses in the area flourish but it must be hard due to the pandemic. Please try this place out if you haven't already and if you have get take out! Stop by! Support our locals. The sever even gave us extra bread to take home with our leftovers which was super thoughtful and generous.

    Mother's Day Menu
    Krystle T.

We came in on Mother's Day because my mother and aunt wanted to try a place we haven't been to before. We made reservations for 9 people around 5pm and had no problems being seated right away when we arrived. There was a live DJ by the bar on the left side of the restaurant and we sat in the dining area to the right. On Mother's Day, there were drink specials and a set menu. We ordered Sangrias, Calamari and the Spanish Tortilla to start. We also received a basket of bread and butter. I'm really a fan of their Sangria. The wine was strong enough that you could still taste it, but it didn't overpower the fruit. The Calamari was perfectly crispy and we really enjoyed the sauce that came with the Spanish Tortilla. I ordered the Sesame Tuna (medium rare) Entree, which came with Sautéed Spinach, Balsamic Vinegar and Mango Tequila Sauce. It was amazing. I usually don't get ANYTHING medium rare, but our waiter recommended it and I thank him for it. Both dipping sauces paired perfectly with the tuna in different ways. The Sautéed Spinach was the best I've had in a while. There was not a bit of food left on my plate! At the end of our dinner, our waiter gave not only gave my mother and aunt a rose, but also my sister, cousins, and I roses too because we're dog moms and we deserved one too. I loved that and was definitely appreciated! It was a great evening and everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. All 9 of us would recommend giving this place a try! I'm definitely coming back to try everything on the tapas menu!

The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and never intrusive. We ordered the prime rib, steak, and steak burger. The prime rib was fresh and thinly sliced but a bit underwhelming in flavor. The special trio of prosciutto tacos fell short. They were served on a large mound of salt and the taco shell was more of a waffle potato chip shell. The flavors didn't mesh well. The main shrimp dish had more of a Cacio de Pepe sauce as opposed to the cognac sauce the menu described. Lasagna and the gnocchetti cacio de pepe were very good and the shining star of the main course was the chicken Milanese which had a crispy outside and moist and tender with a citrusy dressing. The hazelnut gelato was delicious, it had a strong hazelnut flavor which we all loved. The pistachio crème brûlée could have had a little more pistachio flavor. Our server was great! Plus the outdoor beer garden isn't open on Sundays, so we decided to sit inside at the bar. The bar is small - only about 7 or 8 seats but there are a couple tables in that area. The happy hour deal is great!! You get your choice of cocktail + a small mini appetizer for $10. I think there were about 4 or 5 cocktails to choose from and 4 apps, which are bite sized minis from a regular appetizer -- it's a great way to taste test what's on the menu. All of the food was excellent. The only dish I didn't love is the octopus but I can be pretty picky about that. Our bartender Shelton was cool. He chatted with us most of the time, gave us reccos and gave us 3 month aged homemade limoncello when we were finished. My only gripe was the owner -- it felt like he didn't want Shelton talking to us so it made the vibe a little weird. Overall, very cute place for date night inside or outside!! Tasty food and great drinks. All the servers were cool, too. And I think this is a historical site as well.

It's refreshing to find a steakhouse that serves food and drinks late on a Sunday night. The decor, vibes, and clientele are upscale. It's not uncommon for exotic cars to pull up at the valet station. We sat at the bar and were waited on by James who had a great personality and a flair for mixing cocktails. The "White Walker" is a long-standing cocktail on the Sofia menu, and it really hit the spot (Ketel One vodka, coconut cream, lychee, lemon and club soda). My wife tried the "Geisha's Lullaby" - a Japanese whisky cocktail with pistachio, lime, falernum and vanilla. This cocktail was outstanding! On the food side, I ordered Cacio E Pepe. I enjoyed it. Not creamy like the typical cacio e pepe, but the pasta was served over a delicious slice of beef carpaccio. I'd rate it a 4.5 of 5.0. To finish the evening, I enjoyed a pour of Redbreast 12 from Sofia's wall of spirits. Whiskey lovers will enjoy the options, including luxury pours. My wife tried a Peaches in Paris cocktail - white peach puree, vodka, lemon, St. Germain, and Peychaud's bitters. The Peychaud's bitters bullied this cocktail making it slightly unbalanced. Tried Lulu for the first time on Saturday. Excellent experience…read more It was right before the staff showed up for dinner service, so only a couple of tables were occupied. The menu is simple, but covers everything we love. Server came by with warm, fresh, fluffy seasoned pita and a dish of seasoned olive oil. Great start. Started with Cheese Borek and Fried Liver cubes -- The Borek was the best we have had and we order that anytime we dine Mediterrean. The 4 Borek were fat, fried to perfection, and their filling of Feta and spinach was hot, melty and super tasty. We love love Fried Liver, and Lulu does it to perfection. The portion was huge, and dressed with red onion and lemon juice, it sang. We decided to split an order of Manti, those delightful tiny lamb dumplings tossed with burnt butter and garlic yogurt -- holy holy. We ran some liver around that sauce, and were glad we saved some of the bread to sop everything up. So good. Ordered the Kunefe, as we always do. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the table -- so if you are thinking about it, order it before they take your dinner plates away. The Kunefe was good. We think they forgot to add to the syrup it comes in -- but maybe that's the way they do it. It won't disappoint, but I missed that rosewater sugar syrup we are used to. Different places, different recipes. In all, Lulu did not disappoint and we look forward to visiting again. Go, go go. And tip your servers well.

I get there and already there was a few local regulars which was cute. Susan started me off and the service was okay. She did her best though. I winded up ordering Mash potato's that came out in under 5 mins. Super cold. Local people came in and had to move twice to accommodate the amount of guests they were bringing with them to the bar. Moved twice and winded up on the other side of the bar. So much so that the bartender comped all my drinks because clearly the service I was getting was horrendous. I'm on FaceTime with a friend and this alcoholic over hears my FaceTime and repeats what I said verbatim. He then calls me a nigger and repeatedly says "this is trumps world" Carmine is okay with that and just wants me out the bar. Fuck you carmine. You should've comped my entire meal. A deposit required (only charged if you canceled last minute) was straightforward. The drinks were strong and the servers kept us going with water and wine, and the kids enjoyed having their part of the table set up for them to talk and eat at. Bread was refilled a couple times for them. Service was great, I don't remember her name but she was friendly throughout, patient with the kids and adults figuring out what we wanted, and details included helping pick the right gin for a drink, suggesting some great choices for appetizers and desserts that we would've missed otherwise. Appetizers: - We did a full eggplant parm, delicious appetizer shared across the table. I don't normally like eggplant parm (find it too soggy) but here it was done well. Cheese and sauce not overwhelming, pasta was ok in the red sauce. - Zuppa di Mussels was good in a red sauce and not too chewy, cooked properly. - Oysters Rockefeller were excellent; this was the best appetizer and was well balanced, not too salty and not fishy at all. Delicious choice. Twelve for the table was enough for the 10 adults to try (kids skipped). - Fried calamari - this I've had better, the calamari was a little tough and the outside the kids complained was not crispy and salty but more like a hard shell.. almost like too much baking powder? We couldn't tell exactly. The spicy sauce was good for adults, nice kick, although the kids preferred the sweet tomato sauce to dip with. - Caesar salad shared by the group was pretty standard. Dinner - - I shared a Shrimp Scampi, which the shrimp was good, not overcooked, but the lemon, butter, garlic oil and white wine lacked salt - probably good if you need to cut back on salt, but left us a bit lacking on flavor; I guess I'm used to a lot more garlic and butter flavor. - Grilled Skirt Steak - ok, I eat this a lot, and asked for it medium, it was actually closer to a rare in the middle. I know it's tough to cook, so I give a little leeway as a thin and relatively tough steak to deal with, but this was mostly charcoal grill flavor and not much else.. could be marinated more. - Asparagus and mashed potatoes were good as sides, though, kids like it Dessert: - The zeppole's were excellent treats for the table, thanks to our server for recommending as they were many pieces for the table to share! - Cannoli was rich, probably why they didn't get eaten as quickly - Pistachio gelato was excellent - Salted caramel gelato - not a fan personally but people who liked it enjoyed it - Tiramisu was in a small cup - I'm not a coffee guy, so passed on this, but everyone else who like coffee did like this, calling it flavorful and a good finish to a rich dinner Overall hit and miss on some of the food for my taste, oysters were the best dish of the night (lots of surprised people enjoying it, including folks that normally don't like oysters), and the eggplant parm would've made a great dinner, I think, if I had it all to do over again, I would've chosen that given it had a great flavor and balance. Note a 4% charge for processing on credit cards, and as a bigger party, had a gratuity included (not a surprise, this was discussed before so we were good with it).
