Paid $34.47 on Uber east for spaghetti & meatballs (extra sauce) & garlic bread 1. the 3 meatballs were huge but lacked flavor and the texture was off - it reminded me of vegan / fake meat which is off putting 2. The spaghetti order was pretty large but lacked the extra sauce I requested so the majority of my plate was dry spaghetti with thin/weak sauce . 3. The order. Comes with mounds of French bread so ordering garlic bread for an extra $$ is a waste. Especially since there's nothing special about it. This place has been around almost longer than I have! A staple restaurant in San Pablo, for sure! You can tell the age of this place by the inside: dark wood, low lighting, etc. It's not bad, just outdated. They converted some of their parking lot into outdoor dining with nice bench tables. They had heaters too since it is getting colder. Opera music was blasting on the speakers that it became awkwardly quiet when it stopped. Staff wear masks and I saw them wipe down chairs and tables after a customer leaves. Our waiter, Joey, was charismatic and attentive. I ordered the linguine vongole with white wine sauce and a side of minestrone soup. Both dishes devoured! My dad ordered the cioppino which was flavorful but I'd prefer the sauce to be thicker like sticking onto the seafood in the bowl. The overall dining experience was easy and there are no complaints. Would I come here again? Probably if someone else wants it. But on my own, probably not, I really enjoy La Famiglia and it's closer. read more

I had been here a number of years ago and was delighted when my lunch group chose it- I remember the salmon salad fondly from my earlier visit. But this time I had french onion soup- I asked the waiter if it had gruyere cheese on it- but no cheese. limp bread, light tan broth...rather tasteless though the waiter then put a bit of parmesan on it. And ordered the sampler- calamari some of the worst, most tasteless I have had. tomatoes and mozerralla- the tomatoes were light pink and crunchy and bruschetta- same underripe tomatoes on untoasted bread. There was a tasty cheese filled bamboo shoot that was not listed on the menu- the best part of the lunch. and an appetizer and a cup of soup- 35$ with the 25% tip they tacked on. We pulled into the parking lot at 5:40pm, walked in and ordered cocktails, shots and appetizers all before 6pm in order to get the happy hour deal, thanks to Tony. She gave great, precise and attentive service. We received, very delicate complimentary bread, two margaritas, two tequila shots, chicken wings, calamari and a tiramisu to go. The tiramisu is the only thing that made it in the picture because Tony brought out everything so swiftly. A great meeting place for food or drinks. Service was wonderful. They were friendly attentive and not intrusive. We throughly enjoyed our meals and our company. We were promptly seated at a table with menus. Water came and a basket of bread and focaccia arrived with with olive oil based dipping sauce. Next they gave us ample time to look over the menu. Waiter also informed us of their daily special. We opted to order the calamari and the meatball appetizer. The calamari was nicely fried and not greasy at all. The meatball..... omg. It was so good with the cheese and the sauce!! The snapper special was presented like a work of art. It was too pretty to eat. My son got the cheese ravioli with the marinara sauce. He enjoyed it very much. For the kids size portion it was a decent sized order. I had the linguine with clams. Yum!! Lots of clams and the white wine garlic sauce. So good! We ended our meal with tiramisu. It was delicious not too sweet and it was light. Perfect ending to such a great meal and meet up with friends. Definitely will be back to try other items on the menu. There's nothing better than celebrating an anniversary and at La Strada, which is an old school traditional Italian restaurant in San Pablo, they really knows how to celebrate their silver anniversary by bringing back the prices of certain dishes on their menu for the same price they sold them back when they opened in the Adobe Plaza back in 1996. It's a genius idea really, and something they have done before in other years celebrating their birthday and with them celebrating their 25th birthday, this year felt extra special. And I wasn't the only one with this feeling, as although I had reservations for our party of six people, the Wednesday evening in which we arrived at La Strada was packed with diners, of which we learned those who had reservations and those who did not. Things being done at La Strada can be considered old-school at best as they only take reservations over phone or in-person and on the day we went since they were so packed with customers, it was virtually impossible to even approach the host stand to check-in to see if our table was ready. It turns out because we had a reservation for such a large party that our table was ready on time. Sitting in the back of the restaurant in the enclosed bar area allowed us to watch the television that was in the bar while we conversed and ate within our large party. Although the menu at La Strada is filled with old school Italian favorites split up into sections from Antipastos and Pizzas, Soups and Salads, Paninis, Pastas, Entrees, Extras, not to mention Desserts. But since we were here for such a special occasion we knew we were here for their special menu in which the prices for seven selected menu items were brought back down to the prices they were sold back in 1996 when they first opened. With this in mind, we decided to go bold and order all seven dishes and split them among all six of us. These dishes included their Bruschetta ($3.95), Eggplant Parmigiana ($8.95), Salsiccia Peperonata ($9.95), Fettuccine La Strada ($8.95), Petto di Pollo ($10.95), Scallopini Marsala ($11.95), and Calamari Steak ($10.95). As we waited for our meal, the staff at La Strada was always nice enough to make sure that we were served with a bread basket filled with half focaccia bread and sourdough baguette bread served alongside with a small bowl of olive oil dipping sauce and chopped garlic. Since our party was so large, we actually requested an additional basket of bread while we waited and the second time we were served a basket of warm bread, which made our evening of dining go even better especially with that bowl of garlic. Once our meal was presented, we had a bevy of Italian dishes to choose from and our meal began with their Bruschetta La Strada, which was toasted bread topped with Roma tomatoes, basil, garlic, and shave Parmesan cheese was a perfectly fine starter. Of their entrees, two particularly stood out with one being a surprise and one not being a surprise. The surprise turned out to be their Fettuccine Alfredo, which was pasta topped with butter, cream and Parmesan cheese. The not so surprising signature dish that was offered at a special price was their Scallopini Marsala which was their veal marsala topped with a marsala wine sauce served with a side of mushrooms and squash and a dollop of creamy polenta. With this dish, you receive three medallions of tender veal covered in sauce, which made it well worth the price even if it weren't on discount this week. Of the other dishes the Eggplant Parmigiana had some highlights thanks to the niceness of the breaded eggplant mixed with tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil. While the Petto di Pollo, which was a white wine sautéed chicken breast topped with sun-dried tomatoes, spring onions and artichokes, was a nicely plated dish that contained a number of fresh ingredients. It's important to note that every entree was served with a side variety of steamed vegetables and creamy polenta, which certainly fills you up. Our experience at La Strada was so wonderful that members of my party made sure to grab reservations for later that week before the special anniversary menu went by the wayside. Now that we know this is an annual event, you better be sure we're planning to come back for multiple visits whenever they have special events such as these. Where else can you find dishes for less than 10 dollars in this day and age? Even when they are not celebrating their anniversary with a special menu the prices are pretty competitive with a majority of dishes averaging 20 dollars and only some of their protein dishes on their secondi section of their menu costing anywhere from 26 to 35 dollars. I do wish they would sign up with an online reservation system so diners do not have to call in to see if tables are available. They even have a manager walking around checking on patrons occasionally singing to them in Italian! Only at La Strada you can experience this merriment, which makes it a truly special experience. read more

This is a great little restaurant recommended to me by my hotel. It was located only about 1 mile away, so truly convenient. Most of the customers were couples or families as you would expect from an Italian restaurant, but they do have a few tables for 1 along the street side of the building. I wasn't very hungry the evening I visited but ordered the carpaccio and beef ravioli. The flavor combination on the carpaccio was really delicious with the capers, lemons, etc. The ravioli was good, just sorta 2-dimensional. Service was okay, it could have been better. I ended up having to wait a while to order because I got stuck behind a large party nearby that also had my same server. After I finally ordered, a couple came and sat next to me and I noticed they ended up in the same predicament, having to wait a little too long to order due to the server being busy. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, he just didn't seem to bounce around like he should have. He stayed on one table for too long, catering to their every need before going to the next. read more

My in laws used to love this place and we all went often. We used to come to this location when we lived closer. Later we started going to the one located in American Canyon and kind of forgot about this one. Well, we were coming home traveling on Hwy 80 and I thought let me see if The original La Strada is still there! I was so happy to see that it was! I got the eggplant Parmigiana. It was delicious and fresh. It came with polenta, house salad and vegetables. All cooked / seasoned nicely! We split their tiramisu which is made fresh daily. Service was great! I ordered the fettucine alfredo with chicken and the salmon with lemon dill light cream for pickup. When I called to place my order I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. I'm thinking, "sweet! I'm super hungry". Well it was ready in 15 minutes, but it was not sweet, sure the food was edible but it was not flavorful. Is this supposed to be authentic Italian food? According to their website, yes this is supposed to be authentic. The fettucine alfredo tasted like Pasta Roni, I could have saved money had I known this would be the case, bought Pasta Roni and made this myself. The chicken was lightly charred, I've never had charred chicken on my fettucine alfredo - I'm still not sure how I feel about that, I'm leaning towards I don't like it. The salmon itself tasted fine, but the lemon dill sauce was watered down and lacked flavor. I've had similar sauces to this before and they are usually a thicker gravy-like consistency. The salmon came with vegetables and maybe mashed potatoes, although it didn't taste like mashed potatoes so I'm thinking it was polenta based on some of the other reviews. They don't tell you this on their online menu, nor was this disclosed to me when I called. The upside, you do get free bread and butter with your order, you should eat your bread the same day, otherwise if you try to eat it the next day, you'll probably lose a tooth or two. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. We started going here about a year ago. They were having an anniversary special, I had wanted to try them out for a while, and so we went. It was the beginning of a foodie love affair. ;-) We eat here on a regular basis and none of us has ever not liked our order. We've tried everything from the simplest spaghetti and meatballs to their cooked-to-order ribeye, and it's all delicious. It looks good too. Sometimes Italian food doesn't photograph well, but at La Strada the plating is as good as the taste. They also have some super yummy cocktails on the menu and they don't seem to mind substitution requests for picky eaters. Alan and I had come here pretty regularly until the pandemic. Today Lori, Terry and I met here for lunch. It was Lori's choice. They were already seated when I arrived. There was a verbal menu of specials as well as the regular menu and specials. I had been thinking about a Caesar salad until I saw the sampler on the antipasto menu, which had calamari fritti, bruschetta and caprese salad. It's the kind of thing I love for lunch, lots of different tastes. I ordered hot tea, which came in a propper teapot, w/ milk and sweetener as requested, a definite improvement over my last couple of tea experiences in restaurants. My plate was delivered first and after waiting I started, w/ their encouragement. The calamari was crisp yet tender, accompanied by a ramekin of tartar sauce , one of marinara and wedge of lemon. There were two pieces of bruschetta which were topped w/ a flavorful mix of chopped tomato and seasonings. The tomatoes in the caprese were disappointingly flavorless, the kind of tomatoes bred for shelf life rather than flavor. In addition to the named items there were a couple of hearts of palm, slices of pickles, some lettuce and a couple of pepperoncini. In all it was delicious and I would order it again. The women at the adjacent table asked about it as they were leaving and agreed they would order it next time. Both Lori and Terry were pleased w/ their meals. I am not one who will eat Italian at any restaurant for two reasons. 89% of the time I feel that pasta is over priced and that I can recreate the dish at home for 2/3's of the value. Secondly, the carbs aren't worth eating if the pasta tastes like a boxed meal. I have to hand it to a restaurant who can handle either catering or a huge party and still produce quality service and food. My church planned an appreciation ceremony for our pastor & tied it in with his birthday too. We were in pretty deep; about thirty or less of us in the back room. Where we were seated was perfect for his surprise. The restaurant dropped the curtain to conceal us on one side as they showed him to his seat. Was he surprised? Absolutely. As soon as he was seated and made his rounds to say his hello's the servers brought out the appetizers and bread. The servers were extremely attentive and ready to clear up empty plates as the salads were next in line. Again, soon as the salads were finished, plates were cleared and our main course was brought out. There was not one moment the servers were not at our side though the restaurant was packed. One flaw was the cook gave us polenta versus the mashed potatoes that was on our party menu. But they quickly fixed that and brought out bowls of mash.
