After a long day of walking and being hungry, we just wanted some good food. Just googled restaurants near me on Gran Via and this place popped up. Such a great little place! This was probably the only placed that charged us for sitting at a table in Spain though.. strange. They do have a bar where a lot of locals just stand and eat/drink at. Pretty sure they don't charge a fee if you eat there. They have great selection of alcohol and food, mainly seafood. We ordered the mussels, soup with clams, and octopus with potatoes. They serve you bread and I kid you not- their bread was the best bread I had the entire Spain trip. The mussels were big and tasty but the octupus was a little too oily. We stopped by La Sirena Verde on our first night in Madrid. The servers were attentive and the olives and bread (both free) were delicious. That is everything positive that I have to say about this restaurant. The stuffed mushrooms we ordered tasted fishy and under seasoned. We also got mixed paella (chicken and seafood) and this was also underwhelming. Not very flavorful. We ended up throwing out what we took home as leftovers. TOURIST TRAP ALERT!! If you have chosen to go to this place and are just now reading this review, I'm sorry for your loss. However, if you have not yet made the mistake of entering this shit hole! Avoid it!!! You will pay a tourist charge.. yup you read that right! For some croquettes and a coke I was charged a 25% fee. They will bring you stuff you didn't order and won't eat, but it will be charged in your bill. The menu prices will not match the price you actually pay. The pictures on the menu will not match the items you order. And to top of that something tasted spoiled! Simply AVOID IT! And if you're charged an additional fee--call them out! Recommended by the front desk at my hotel for paella. Ate at the bar, disappointed paella required 2 orders. Grilled shrimp sounded good, but you have to order by weight. We ordered salad and while we're eating it our main courses were delivered to the table. The grilled octopus was tough and very salty; the dish didn't match photos which rendered an entire octopus and not slices of it. By the time my husband ate the scallops they were cold. AVOID! Tourist Trap!!!! This place has all the red flags when you see it from the front... they say avoid restaurants with pictures and this is one you should avoid, but I was in a hurry. The menu has one price and you will be charged a different higher price, but that's not it.. you will automatically be charged a 20% "table service fee on top of that" The food is sub par and I am unsure how this place has a review above a single star, but at least I can now warn you!! Awesome seafood! We spent one night in Madrid and came across this restaurant. When you first walk in you see an abundance of fish in the glass case and you walk upstairs to the restaurant. It was not to crowded and we were seated right away. We ordered the paella and the halibut. Everything was delicious and cooked very well. The portions were large and the prices fairly reasonable. They also gave us a dessert liquor after diner which was a nice surprise. read more

Five stars for the paella alone! You can't go to Spain without trying the paella and here, they do it justice. We also tried the ham stuffed mushrooms (amazing if you like mushrooms, just ok if you don't), pimientos padron (salted, roasted peppers- yummy!), chopitos (fried baby octopus, tasty just like calamari) and caldo Gallegos (white bean soup with greens that tastes just like pot likker from down south). Horrible place!! My sister and I were craving some really good Paella on our last night in Madrid, so we looked on here and considered all the good reviews. We were extremely disappointed- reason one being: We asked for a bottle of water and they brought us two(the little things they do to rip tourist off). We really only needed one but our waiter opened both on the table. It's not the biggest deal but I thought I'd mention it. Reason two: We waited a little over 45 minutes for our food. So we were starving by the time the food arrived. Reason three: The paella was HORRIBLE!! It looked like they forgot to take it out of the oven- burnt from the top and bottom, my sister and I could hardly eat it. I even spit a few things out twice (that's how bad was). So sad about their puppy. The waiters here are as grim a lot as can be found this side of the Addams Family. My fiancé and I spent the meal joking about where they keep their puppy, which must have just died for them to be such a glum and miserable bunch. Got lured by the fancy live lobster tank up front, but I guess those are for display only; seafood was not fresh at all which is a total turn off. Customer service was sub par and the restroom was freezing to death. I am very surprised that it have a 4.5 stars rating located on Gran Via. From the out side this place is so touristic it will just make you think it will be an over priced and bad experience but don't let the cover fools you. This place has great seafood menu by its own right. The seafood pallea is first class rated and seafood soup is a delightful surprise. Fresh catch of the day and many items to choose form this place will cater for most. Upstairs is a more of a Restuarent experience than cafeteria downstairs standards. Well recommended not to mention well located, and the fact it opens all day is an added advantage for late noon eaters. read more

Basically a storefront you would pass by with a fresh fish counter on the front. But upstairs is a quiet little neighborhood restaurant with a lovely view of the Gran Via, white table linens and a varied menu. The website lists a tasting menu, but none was available the night of our visit. Many types of steak, fish and paella. The food was delicious, the service was spotty. It was open all day which is a big plus in a city that usually eats dinner at 10 PM! Reasonable pricing with a check for dinner coming to $105 per couple with wine, salad and dessert. We sat for over two hours and enjoyed the view and the food. Very pleasant respite after walking the whole day. read more
