Awesome seafood! We spent one night in Madrid and came across this restaurant. When you first walk in you see an abundance of fish in the glass case and you walk upstairs to the restaurant. It was not to crowded and we were seated right away. We ordered the paella and the halibut. Everything was delicious and cooked very well. The portions were large and the prices fairly reasonable. They also gave us a dessert liquor after diner which was a nice surprise.

What a disappointment, took a taxi after reading great review after passing probably 1000 restaurants to come there and see the place closed. Maybe you guys need to update on the website you guys went to vacation or something. Wasted my time and money to get her but thank you walked around the corner to find a great seafood restaurant La Chalana!!!!

Definitely one of our favorite restaurants on Gran Via. Literally came back twice for their delicious Paella de Mar. Their seafood soup has to have been one of the best I've had, highly recommend! Great service and such friendly staff! We will definitely be coming back!

This is exactly what my mind is I saw when I thought of having incredible food in Spain. This place is packed full of incredible fresh seafood local hams cheeses wines and of course everything else. The menu here is bigger than anything I have seen all over Spain and the delivery of each item is extremely high quality.

The food we left because of how horrible it was.

Horrible place!! My sister and I were craving some really good Paella on our last night in Madrid, so we looked on here and considered all the good reviews. We were extremely disappointed- reason one being: We asked for a bottle of water and they brought us two(the little things they do to rip tourist off). We really only needed one but our waiter opened both on the table. It's not the biggest deal but I thought I'd mention it. Reason two: We waited a little over 45 minutes for our food. So we were starving by the time the food arrived. Reason three: The paella was HORRIBLE!! It looked like they forgot to take it out of the oven- burnt from the top and bottom, my sister and I could hardly eat it. I even spit a few things out twice (that's how bad was). They also charge a service fee for the bread/olives and so called "service".

Great ,service, food and price. The daily menu was bread, paella, breaded squid and a bottle of wine and dessert or coffee. For just 10 euros!! Great deal.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a nice meal give this spot a try. Zero. I mean zero complaints. Food, service and price was perfect! Also, the oysters were unbelievably fresh and tasted phenomenal. Trust me when I tell you. You can't go wrong and won't be disappointed!

But upstairs is a quiet little neighborhood restaurant with a lovely view of the Gran Via, white table linens and a varied menu.

We had the grilled artichokes with jamon, the assortment of croquettes and the octopus shrimp risotto. All of it was very tasty and blew our minds, especially the croquettes! Best taste better than in Seville and Barcelona!! No kidding, you should try them. The artichoke wad prepared a totally different way than I've ever seen. Very tasty, small amount sold as unit but we ordered two pieces- enough to enjoy for each of us. I would go back- this know for the seafood. Lots of specials including clams/ conches/ fish dishes. Felt full enough afterwards, really enjoyed their cuisine. A hidden gem.

Great food and wine and more importantly great people!

Most of the seats are outside, where 5 tables provide seats for 2 - 4 each, although more can probably be improvised. Inside, as if to ensure the diner doesn't forget it, neat rows of mussel shells are strung and hung along all the walls. A counter inside provides a place to enjoy the food and beverages standing, at a lower cost. But al fresco is where it's at in Spain so take a seat and wait for the waiter to check in. They offered an English menu in addition to Spanish. The mussels section is extensive, prepared in different ways but mostly served room temperature, alongside other classic tapas. The mussels are cooked well; tender, plump, and juicy. The spiced ones, in particular, were delicious, seasoned well, packing enough heat for flavor without overwhelming. The mussels in hot tomato sauce came warm in earthenware and smothered in sauce but was bland, an odd thing in Spain where excess salt is far more common. Their patatas bravas are worth a mention, being exactly what these potatoes are supposed to be: mouthfuls of fresh-from-the-frier heat, crispy and pillowy in texture, and doused in just enough hot pepper sauce. Along with a glass of cana, this makes for a nice tapas stop in Sol.
