Jesus where do I start.... It's Chino De Mayo, a commercial Mexican holiday. We drove all the way from Bowie, with friends of ours we wanted to spend the holiday festivities with. They didn't not have an overflow of customers, but the food time took 3 hours... They advised pitcher marguerites, but refused to wash used pitcher to serve new customer. It was the worse restaurant experience we ever had in my life, and it was embarrassing. Our company that came from Ft. Washington to dine with us in authentic Mexican was very irritated, hungry and unhappy. The service is horrible the guy Johnathon was so rude and short with us to the point we didn't even finish our drinks and left. He was very hostile for no reason and it was just two of us females. We couldn't even enjoy ourselves when we got there and the place was empty too. I would never come here again and would never recommend this place. I gave them a $5 tip on a $15 bill because of Covid but he didn't deserve a dollar!! I wasn't raise to not tip but the service was absolutely horrible. The Annapolis area is awash in Latin American cuisine these days, so the addition of one more seemed like it might be overkill. But, just like any other cuisine, some are done right, most are done wrong and, a select few, are excellent. La Sierra falls into the excellent category. La Sierra sets the expectation of dining on "Authentic Mexican Food." Being from the east coast, I don't really know the difference between authentic, Tex-Mex and Cali-Mex, but I hear its pretty substantial. However, no matter the subset of cuisine, I do know whether I like the food or not. My wife and I were very impressed with the food. It was well presented and very flavorful. If this is truly authentic Mexican, then I really like it! While La Sierra is easy to get to and has adequate parking, you probably aren't going to trip over it like the flashy Chuy's or Uncle Julio's. The back of the restaurant faces the main road and the signage kind of gets lost in background. (During political season, the signs for all the various candidates really obscure La Sierra's sign.) So, if you're a fan of real Mexican food (not Taco Bell Mexican, but slices of cactus Mexican) travel a short way down Riva Road and give La Sierra a try! read more

We've been in Annapolis a little over a year and this was the first Mexican restaurant we've eaten at since moving here. Friendly wait staff, wide selection of food. Prices were a bit steep, 11.99 for made to order guacamole and premade was $4.50 for 4 oz. My dish was pretty Awesome. I had the seafood fajitas which had red snapper, scallops and shrimp along with grilled cactus, jalapeños and green onions. They offer a good vegetarian menu too, which was one of the reasons we came here. read more

Sadly, this restaurant is going downhill fast. I went here today for lunch with two of my co-workers and to say it was a disappointing experience would be a huge understatement. One of my co-workers ordered a house salad and a chicken tortilla soup, my other co-worker ordered fajitas, and I ordered fajitas without the tortillas. My friend's soup and salad were delivered before the other two meals. When the fajitas were delivered, neither came with tortillas. I asked for no tortillas, but my co-worker did not. The soup had no chicken in it. None. The salad arrived with out any dressing. When my co-worker asked if she could get some salad dressing she was told that dressing doesn't come with the salad. I'm serious, dressing does not come with the salad. She told him she needed salad dressing. He did end up bringing her Italian dressing. The salad was pathetic looking. The tomatoes were light pink and the carrots, well they were just gross! They were covered in white. Obviously, they were very old. Why would you serve something like that to a customer? When the waiter came by, I showed him the carrots and told him they were gross and should never have been served. He said he would speak with the kitchen. He came back to our table twice, but never addressed the issue with the carrots. When it came time to pay our bill our waiter was nowhere to be found. We had to wait for at least 15 minutes to get our checks. I've dined at this restaurant several times and it was always very good. The last couple of times have been slowly going downhill. I hope they get their act together soon. There are way too many choices around this restaurant for customer's to get subpar food and service at this establishment. read more

Their prices are so ridiculous that I'll only eat there for lunch. With that one negative I have to say that they are one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the area if you're looking for gooey queso and deep fried goodness. I especially appreciate that they have actual chimichangas, not deep fried burritos masquerading as chimis. read more

Disappointing meal but good service. Chips were right out of the bag and the salsa wasn't much more than tomato sauce with a few onion pieces and what might of been cilantro but didn't taste cilantro and over salted. My favorite menu item is carne Assad's so always pleased to see it on the menu. No marinade or spices in the meat. Basically thrown on the grill and cooked. Beans and rice typical, a couple of pieces of cactus leaf and grilled onions rounded out the dish. Really loud place. read more

Mediocre, uninspired, run of the mill Mexican food. Ingredients were unimpressive, mostly bland without distinctiveness, and ingredients did not taste fresh made. Used way too much melted cheese on most everything. The noise was incredibly loud, could barely hear conversations across table without practically yelling. Service was polite, efficient and matter of fact. Prices for this restaurant and menu selections were expensive. We moved here from California a year and a half ago and have been missing authentic Sonoran style Mexican food. Flavorful refried pinto beans are a must as are complex chile-based sauces. People here seem to rate pan-Latin restaurants highly as "Mexican food" but that's not what we have been searching for. This is! Good authentic Mexican food! read more

There are so many great Latin restaurants in the area, and I was looking forward to enjoying a meal at another one. However, I will steer clear of this establishment in the future because my friend not only had food poisoning immediately after eating one of their dishes, but the establishment refused to believe that their food caused the problem. I took the waiter aside to make sure no one overheard me, explained what had happened, and asked that he let the chef know so he/she could figure out if there was anything wrong in the kitchen. The waiter refused, telling me that he knew everything was good and fresh and that since only my friend became ill, it couldn't be their food. Two of us had the same dish, but no one other than my friend ate the salsa. I explained that food could be fresh, and it could still happen, could be the supplier, etc. He still refused to take the complaint seriously. Because of the attitude I asked that they at least take her meal off the bill. Again, he refused to do so, stating that he couldn't do anything without the manager. After insisting he call and ask, he finally did and took the $12.95 off the check. I called the manager later to make him aware of the situation, but the attitude was similar. A restaurant that refuses to even consider the possibility that there could be a problem with what it's feeding the public doesn't deserve a place next to the other excellent Latin restaurants in the area. The restaurant is much bigger than the first impression. Excellent margaritas but over-priced. Pitchers and drinks are mostly ice! Food was a mixed bag but, except for combos, also overpriced. The fresh guacamole was very good but portion was small for the price. The Chili Relleno was terrible and tasted like raw batter. I normally wait until a restaurant is open a couple months so the location can work out the glitches and fully train employees. However, I looked at the online menu and saw that this is clearly run by folks with smarts and extensive restaurant experience. I took a chance and went the first week it was open and was pleased that I did. The chips were piping hot, and my husband loved the salsa, but I thought it was average, tasting like a mix of fresh and canned ingredients. Our entrees were another story. Impressive! The green sauce was flavorful. The red sauce was even more flavorful. The mole was more flavorful than that. It's better than the mole at that nearby Spanish/Mexican place. This is legit Mexican food, which is super hard to find in this part of the country. This has to be the best Mexican restaurant in a 15-mile radius, easy. I'll be back, and as soon as word gets out about this place, there will be a wait. Riva Road needed a place like this as there are only a few options around. read more

We were so excited to have a new restaurant open that is part of the Mi Casita family as we have been going to Mi Casita for years. Overall we've had good experiences at La Sierra with food and service until tonight. We get takeout from there around 3 times per month and also dine in. Tonight items were missing from our order and the manager/owner David had an attitude when I called. There was no apology just what do you want. No offer for a free dessert or margarita next time you come in... just what do you want and an offer for 50 cents credit because that's what tortillas cost. If you order fajitas they aren't fajitas without tortillas.... just a plate of grilled vegetables (these were vegetarian.) I'm sorry we will never order from or go to La Sierra again...even though Mi Casita is a little further away it's worth it for the excellent service and delicious food. read more

We've been there twice already. The lunch special menu is huge. Service is excellent. I had a bloody Mary that was excellent and a fajita. More food than I could eat so I have leftovers for tomorrow. Inedible. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Chile relleno had a red sauce (instead of a fresh salsa on top) that turned everything to mush. The cheese had a chemical taste. The beef taco was served in a pre baked and formed shell. Any taco worth eating is fried fresh. Geeze...it's not that hard to do!!! Who serves a taco with JUST greasy meat and a splash of lettuce??? While there are quite a few restaurants here in Annapolis that offer Mexican cuisine none quite get it right. La Sierra is authentic as it gets (I'm a west coast Mexican, born and bred)! Service was great, and the portions are huge. Yes it was a little pricey but as stated before the portions are HUGE. My son's Fajita Quesadilla was breakfast and lunch the next day.
