I went out of the way to try Ecuadorian food in Charlotte. The fish stew was decent with plantain chips accompanying it. If I were to come back, I would try a different dish.

We were shocked that this was considered acceptable to serve to customers.

Burnt food, false advertising, and awful service -- avoid this place. We came in excited to try the food, but what we were served was completely burnt (see attached photos -- this isn't an exaggeration). It was dry, charred, and barely edible. We politely asked for a replacement and were told no because we had taken "a few bites." Of course we did -- how else are you supposed to realize it's burned? We spoke directly with the owner, Winter, who not only dismissed our concern but casually admitted that the food isn't made fresh, despite what the menu claims. According to him, they buy it from somewhere else, which means it's likely frozen and simply reheated. That's false advertising -- plain and simple. Between the terrible customer service, the inedible food, and being lied to about what we're eating, this was a total waste of money. Don't fall for the fake "fresh" claims -- you deserve better.

Came by to try the food and it did not disappoint. Really good food! Portions are pretty generous in my opinion, I didn't get to finish mine and took it home. For the table, we ordered the empanadas de verde and for my main dish I ordered the Tonga (chicken with a peanut sauce and served with rice and sweet plantain). They do have the main staples of Ecuadorian food from the drinks to the dishes. Staff are very friendly. Definitely recommend.

Finally an Ecuadorian restaurant in Charlotte. Don Winter has a hit! Had the bolon Mixta, the humita and the apple soda

Best Ecuadorian food ive had in my life!!! Great service from the waiter Daniel as well. 10/10 will come back

We drove 30 miles out of our way so Jose could have authentic Ecuadorian food from his childhood. The encebollado pescado was delicious.

Highly recommend!! We drove 30 miles out of the way to eat authentic Ecuadorian food. The staff was warm and gracious. The food was fresh and worth the extra drive. Jose recommends the encebollado pescado Gracias!!

Had an excellent bowl of shrimp and fish (mahi) ceviche. If you love lots of fish and shrimp in your ceviche you'll love this ceviche. The flavors were just right and the waiter gave me some tasty hot salsa to spice it up to my liking. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent. One odd thing is they don't seem to have a menu; the waiter described items and showed me pictures on his phone. I'll definitely be back soon.

Terrible! Save your money and time. What a disgrace to Ecuador. The soup had one yuca and very tough "gallina." It was either going bad or overcooked. The seco de gallina was salty! The best part was the two cans of sodas. The price is outrageous for the amount of food given. Forget the service- such tragedy. The health department will most likely shut them down..or they should. Will not be recommending this place at all. Please take down the Ecuadorian flag because your food gives all Ecuadorian food a bad name. Que Pena!

I went on a walk with my partner on Sunday morning to grab brunch. It was sunny and beautiful outside, but our hearts were heavy with the loss of our sweet Shih Tzu, Harpo, the night before. I couldn't keep the tears away no matter how hard I tried, and entered the restaurant with Kim Kardashian-level cry face. The hostess and the restaurant director, Alex, immediately empathized with us and shared stories of their own furry friends. I was definitely interested in the $1 mimosas they have on Sundays and Alex made sure we had one in our hands before we had the chance to review the menu. As a starter, we ordered las croquetas-- great flavor and creamy on the inside. We ordered the steak & eggs and the Spanish omelette. Both were delicious! I can always count on Catalú to serve some delicious potatoes. The sauce had a little bit of spice, but nothing too crazy for me. The team went out of their way with their generosity and gifted us the French toast, banana split, and a celebration toast for our sweet boy. The banana split was my favorite! I loved the ice cream and the crispy, brûléed bananas were amazing. Everyone showed us so much kindness and warmth during such a sad day. I really felt like our decision to stop in that morning was the universe reminding us that there is so much compassion and love in the world to go around-- even without our sweet boy beside us. Thank you so much to the entire Catalú team for making us feel loved and seen. I really cannot thank you all enough.

We came with our toddler, and they were very accommodating, asking if we preferred a booth or a table since we'd be clipping her high chair onto the table. We all ordered sangrias, 2 of the Miró (red) sangrias and 2 of the passion fruit (white, sparkling) sangrias. All were so delicious! Amongst the 4 of us, we split the paella de carne, gambas al ajillo, mejillones, and pulpo gallego - this was the perfect amount of food! The warm rolls they provided were so good on their own and even more amazing when dipped in the shrimp and mussel sauces. We ended the night with a flan, which was nice and caramel-y. Service was friendly, and they did speak Spanish, which was a bonus for us. I'll definitely be returning and recommending to others!

From the moment you walk in, you feel it -- the music, the vibe, the warmth. The live band sets the tone with classic Cuban rhythms that make the entire place feel alive. It's not just background music -- it's part of the experience. The sound fills the room without overpowering conversation, creating that perfect balance between lively and intimate. Now let's talk about the food -- because it's outstanding. I ordered a plate featuring tender, slow-braised shredded beef in a rich, savory tomato-based sauce. The meat was incredibly flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and fall-apart tender -- you can tell it's been cooked low and slow the right way. The sauce had depth, with hints of garlic, peppers, and warm spices that tied everything together beautifully. It was served alongside perfectly cooked rice (dark and flavorful, likely infused with beans and seasoning), sweet fried plantains that were caramelized just right -- crispy edges, soft centers -- and a fresh, crisp salad to balance the richness. Every component on the plate complemented the other. Nothing felt like an afterthought. The presentation was generous and rustic, exactly what you want from authentic Cuban comfort food. The service was welcoming and attentive, and the overall ambiance makes it a great spot for: * Date nights * Celebrations * Dinner with friends * Or just a night out where you want great food and live music El Puro isn't just a restaurant -- it's an experience. The bar area was busy but we managed to snag two seats on the side without too much trouble -- seat yourself setup. Here's where it gets a little mixed. My partner stepped away to use the restroom and I sat there for a while while one of the bartenders walked back and forth past me, clearly focused on closing duties, without so much as a glance or a menu in my direction. Not the worst thing in the world but when you're sitting at a bar alone it's hard not to notice. Fortunately another bartender came over, clocked that I was just sitting there unattended, and immediately smiled and handed me a menu before taking both of our orders. She turned it around quickly and that kind of awareness goes a long way. Shoutout to her. I ordered a 3oz pour of Syrah -- pretty decent, did the job. We didn't order food so I can't speak to that. The overall vibe was chill and low key for a late Friday night, which was exactly what we needed. Would come back for a proper visit earlier in the evening and give the food menu a real shot.
